Honestly, the only person I had trusted was Anton, so I can’t say I had any hope in her helping Vasalie or the opposite.
Illian is a child who doesn’t get his way then acts out. He’ll no doubt deliver on any promises to break Vasalie in any way he can just because he can.
I think we all suspected what Anton was “hiding” / avoiding answering so the reveal was somewhat expected?
Illian is like a cockroach, of course he will find some way to survive. I don’t think he’ll make a deal with Fate of Morta because she did say he has nothing to offer her.
I had so many questions during their exchange. How long has this been going on, what is the history, why don’t we have Anton’s POV for this? What does she want with him? I had too many questions and my mind was buzzing.
I never trust a prophecy especially when you THINK you know who and what it’s about. Prophecies always have a way of surprising you and playing out regardless (or in spite of?) of what you do or think. I think that now that Vas had the moment of clarity she’s going to try and fix it.
By the end, I immediately wanted the second book. I need to know what happens. There’s so many questions that are left unanswered and I can’t wait to see hwo this is tackled in the next book and what becomes of Anton.

It felt like she MIGHT help her but I was more on the side of believing she wouldn’t out of fear for Illian. It was hard to trust anyone except for Anton.
I’m so over Illian and the way he has been treating Vasalie & his brother’s. He is a horrible person and I’m glad Vasalie sees him for who he is. He’d crafted a persona but in reality Illian sucks and is just a desperate,whiny man. He has no hold over Vasalie anymore so he can try but she’s stronger than he could ever believe.
It was alluded to in the story so wasn’t as shocking but I enjoyed the reveals.
I was cheering Vasalie on for taking Illain down, the world is a better placw without him. I can’t believe I thought he might change at one point. I really thought Illian would strike a deal and come back. Who knows, he could very well in book 2 👀
Anton is incredible! The way he handled everything was commendable and his sacrifice had me melting. I feel bad about what he has to give up though and am concerned about his future and how Vasalie will be able to help him.
Things will come true from the prophecy while Vasalie tries to prevent what she can.
I loved it! I’m so eager for book 2 and to see what secrets,drama and romance will unfold. Things are rocky right now for everyone but I have faith that Vasalie and the others will try their utmost best to fix Anton and their world. This was a wonderful read and readalong. I’m so happy Sana came through and helped Vasalie! I’m glad she didn’t succumb to the evilness that Illian is.
Illian is honestly just bad news, I’m not surprised he threatened Vasalie the way that he did. At the end of the day, the only person he cares about is himself.
I’m not surprised at all all by Anton’s reveal as it was hinted at numerous times throughout the book.
Surely he can’t survive this fall. The height and landing was all too much.
The Fate or Morta and Anton’s interaction was very interesting, I didn’t expect her to be so obsessed with him.I am actually so excited to read the next book to find out exactly what will happen. I think the cliffhanger ending was the cherry on top. And I can’t wait to see what Vasalie does to try and rectify everything!

No actually. I thought she was loyal to Illian.
She was never his to break. If he didn’t get it right after imprisoning her for two years, he certainly wouldn’t now.
That was yet another plot twist I did not expect. But I was starting to think something is off after Illian said Morta is but a myth.
I don’t think he will survive after Anton kind of confirmed that he’s the who has a deal with Morta.
This was absolute nerve-wrecking and I think he’s escaped death far more times than we know. I just hope it turns out for the best and that he’s not all gone.
I think Vasalie will try her best to change the fate. And with the kind of person Anton is (though Morta took the good in him) he will come up with a plan to make everything work out for the best.
I need the second book as in yesterday! I literally can’t wait to read the next book cause I need to know what Vasalie is going to do to safe Anton. I lowkey think he’ll fall in love with her again.

1. Honestly, Illian’s threats to “break” Vasalie feel like classic villain posturing… except with him, you never know if it’s a love confession in disguise or an actual threat. He’s the drama.
2. Anton’s reveal had me like, “Wait, excuse me?!” This man really dropped a plot twist like it’s casual tea time. Unexpected, but I’m here for it.
3. Vasalie yeeting both herself and Illian off like some dark romantic swan dive? Iconic. Will he survive? Probably and the main characters have plot armor, but I’m low-key curious if Fate of Morta’s about to get two new contracts.
4. Fate of Morta and Anton’s interaction was giving “mysterious aunt meets the unexpectedly important nephew.” A mix of creepy and oddly respectful, and I loved every second.
5. The prophecy flip? Chef’s kiss. Everyone thought it was Illian, but nope and Anton’s the real MVP. Now I’m expecting chaos, betrayal, and possibly some sibling awkwardness at the next family gathering.
6. Vasalie waking to a world on the brink of war but also brimming with hope feels like the ultimate season finale cliffhanger. The end had that “we survived, but oh boy, here comes season two” energy.

1. I wasn’t expecting her to actually help! People have been so hesitant to actually assist anyone for fear of the crown, so that was a nice surprise.
2. It was honestly bone-chilling. His anger over losing his most prized possession striped away all niceties and really showed his cruel nature.
3. Really surprised at everything he reveals! Honestly thought it was just a myth at that point! It also does make so much of sense though!
4. Shew I don’t think he will survive but at the same time, Morta did say she wanted nothing to do with him so I feel like some form of him might come back somehow. I also don’t believe he truly loved anything…but maybe he loves power and control so it’s possible Morta might appeal to that.
5. Very casual, friendly and not what I was expecting. I expected more reverence but it feels like there is more respect actually. I feel like Morta is challenged by Anton and his antics.
6. The prophecy was crazy! That twist made me gasp! Vas is definitely going to try and help Anton in any way she can!
7. Such a great book that kept me guessing the entire time! I loved that it ends and it leaves you wanting more! Thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns, and Vas’s character development was wonderful to witness. I am excited to read about this almost enemies to lovers kind of vibe between Vas and Anton now!

Sana turned out to be more layered than expected, her help felt genuine, but it was also clear she was navigating her own survival. I had a hunch she might step in, but not without her own terms.
They show his need for control and his inability to accept that she can’t be owned. His threats reveal fear disguised as power.
It deepens Anton’s complexity, his vulnerability makes him feel more human.
Illian’s survival feels possible, he’s slippery like that but if he does, a deal with the Fate of Morta would come at a devastating cost.
It’s tense and loaded with unspoken bargaining. It hints that Anton is willing to risk much more than he lets on to protect what matters to him.
It completely changes the stakes, Anton’s life and choices now hold the key to the kingdom’s fate, which will likely force him into even more dangerous positions.
It’s bittersweet, war looms, but the threads of hope suggest that the fight ahead might finally lead to freedom and justice. I did however want more from the end.

My thoughts could not have been more wrong about Sana! Im glad that she did help Vas.
This proves that Illian doesnt care about Vas at all and it was more about gaining power and having Vas as his plaything.
I am not totally surprised as we knew Anton was hiding something so it wasnt very unexpected.
Illian will do whatever it takes to survive so perhaps yes he will make a deal with Fate of Morta.
If i am being honest i didnt like it as the fate of morta was built up to be this incredible being and only for Anton and the fate to talk to each other as if theyre peers/friends. It was a bit of a let down for me.
I did see this coming towards the end of the book so it wasnt something i was very shocked by. However, I dont know where this could go and from what we have seen anything can happen.
Again, not much of a fan of the ending. It does end off on a cliffhanger but Im not really interested to find out what happens next.

I am actually proud of Sana, I didnt think she would help her but I was never 100% sure about that either.
King Illian is just a desperate, evil man at this point! Vasalie would do anything in her power to break him first.
I think that I was right all along!!!
Nope I think this is finally the well-deserved end to King Illian.
I really enjoyed their interaction. It gave us some good background when it came to their past, how many times Anton has been able to evade her too.
I have no idea but I cannot wait to find out in book 2!!
I think that that was one hell of a cliffhanger and I have no idea how to wait for the next book.

He will destroy anything he can’t have or is a threat to him.
I’m not surprised, since it was mentioned before.
I hope he doesn’t come back in book 2 lol. But with him you never know.
The interaction between Fate of Morta and Anton was interesting to read.
I think Vasalie will try to change things and make everything right.

I’m glad I was right about her (in a way). She knew she was serving a dangerous king and would help when the time was right.
It made me understand why General Stova and Illian have such a strong alliance that spanned across years. Turns out they have the same penchant for domestic violence in addition to normal violence.
I wasn’t surprised at all. I kept waiting for him to resurrect himself in between all the chaos in the first half of the chapter.
It was so cathartic to read about him plummeting to his death and being taken out by Vasalie. Unfortunately, part of me does think he’ll make a deal with Moranya in order to come back to the land of the living and finish what he started/ reclaim his title as the king of Miridran. I don’t think this is the last we’ll see of Illian in this series.
It was really surprising. Even though I knew deep down Anton was immortal, I didn’t realise the myths surrounding the Fate of Morta would be real too, or that Anton was basically a modern version of Eremis. I found it interesting that Anton could slip between the realm of the living and Morta’s realm whenever he wanted to in the past. Hopefully the myths about Moranya and the other Fates are expanded upon in the next book(s) in this series.
Besides the validation I felt at having it confirmed that the prophecy was about Anton and not Illian (though why I thought a prophecy about the future was about past events at the time, I’ll never know!) I think that if Illian doesn’t make a deal with Morta and stays dead, Anton will become the next Illian and they’ll have to fight against him. Either that or the darkness inside him will be brought out by Illian if he comes back and breaks his brother out of Razam (so creating an alliance between him and Anton, using their shared darkness to destroy the other crowns and take not just Miridran but Razam, Serai and Brisendale for themselves).
I thought it was a great cliffhanger that set up both the larger political and Vasalie’s personal stakes for the next book. I’m definitely interested in seeing how they’ll navigate the Anton situation, if Illian will come back (although I hope not), the role King Stova will play, if we’ll be exposed to more of the world of the Fates, and exploring more of the world that Arena created.

I had my suspicions, but she’s proven herself trustworthy. She’s going to be a great asset to Vasalie going forward in this series.
OHhh I’m so glad he’s gone 😔 I have a feeling he’s also “reviving” himself somehow through this Fate of Morta lady. I’m terrified for book 2.
He’s STILL protecting her after everything that he’s been through 😭 I know it was originally for himself, but the fact that he tried giving it to her means a lot.
Yeah… Like I said before, I wouldn’t be surprised if he pops up in the sequel after having made a deal to live again. I’m excited yet scared to see what the author plans for this series!
AH 😭 Too soon… It was such a stressful and tense moment to read about – especially with now knowing that she is in fact real. Their history is heartbreaking and the fact that she’s still somewhat manipulating him is so sad.
It’s an interesting one!! I honestly don’t know what to expect going forward but I’m so excited to read it!
Oh it was such a good (yet also so sad) ending! The author really knows how to play with your emotions… Anton’s final fate of having lost his “love”!?? 😔 The author better write the sequel FAST.
