I think this small act of rebellion might cost her a chance at negotiating.
To be be honest after what Gideon tried to do to Viv previously I didn’t think that Sereana and Gideon would come back.
Viv will redeem herself despite all the harm she has cause, because it is never too late for redemption and now that she knows more information she will be able to make better decisions that don’t just involve her.
I think it was a really clever idea of Viv and that it was a good deal she offered to Wyvernmire but maybe if Wyvernmire wasn’t so power hungry and thought more logically she would of accepted Viv’s deal.
I think that the Bulgarian Dragons might have had another agenda when they agreed to help Wyvernmire, because most of the dragons we come across in the story always mention something about not serving humans and that maybe the Bulgarian dragons are trying to keep their enemy closer in order to beat them.
Viv destroying the loquisonus machine was not a mistake because Wyvernmire then won’t have a machine to use and because Dr Seymour created the machine and is on the rebel side she will make another machine if it is needed.
I think after the unthinkable happens Viv won’t change her mind, if anything she will be more determined than ever to achieve what she wanted to do and that this has put a fire under her belly.
I am unsure honestly of many fake deals Viv and Wyvernmire will make, there will be fake deals done between them but not sure how many.
My theories for the next book is definitely more information about the rebels and possibly them planning how to take down the government, Viv will find out how to reunite her and sister with her parents and lastly that a certain character is in fact maybe not dead but alive.
With this being the last day of the read-along I think the book was well written, I loved the political and fantasy aspects. The main character did become a bit annoying and I was a bit unsatisfied with the ending of the story as it felt a bit dull and rushed. This isn’t the most amazing novel I’ve ever read, but it was still entertaining, and can recommend it for anyone who likes their history with side of fantasy. BUT in saying that I have high hopes for the next book.
My favourite characters were Marquis and Sophie.

10. I enjoyed it quite a lot. I liked how Viv’s character made us continuously question if she ever will make the right choice. It also had enough drama after every chapter to keep me locked in.

I don’t see why Gideon and Serena would come back especially after Gideon tried killing Viv. Best believe I was surprised that they both came back.
I do believe that Viv can redeem herself. Despite all the wrongs she has done I think everyone is allowed to give themselves grace and learn from their mistakes, apologise and just try to do better going forward. Viv as proven to us in the last few chapters of this as she has taken accountability and now sees the greater importance of the rebellion than just thinking about herself.
Wyvernmire has her own agenda and doesn’t really seem to care about doing what’s right. She may have agreed to Vivs deal hut would have purely done it to suit her own agenda and nothing else.
Definitely! From what we’ve learnt about the Bulgarian dragons I do believe they came to Wyvernmires aid with a greater agenda. They clearly don’t care for humans or peace which is funny because Wyvernmire is exactly the same in some capacity.
Destroying the Loquisonas machine was the correct thing to do. Viv did want to use the machine to spy on the Bulgarian Dragons but not destroying the machine would have only lead to greater bloodshed and heartache.
Viv won’t change her mind after the unthinkable happens because she knows how important it is to fight for what’s right. This will only fuel her even more to do what’s right and get justice.
I’m not sure the exact amount of fake deals Viv and Wyvernmire will make but I’m sure there will be a lot of deception from both sides.
The ending was not at all what I had anticipated but it was a nice way to end it off as it leaves you wondering what’s going to happen next. The next book will most likely follow Viv and the gang in their pursuit to bring down Wyvernmire and her regime as well as the Bulgarian dragons. I feel like we’re going be given a lot of plot twists.
I’ve recently just got back into reading fantasy so this was so so nice to read. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and how it reflects a lot of our current reality. The characters – Viv specifically – frustrated me a lot at times but she depicts how a lot of us think. It was refreshing to read a book where the protagonist wasn’t as likeable but is someone that is growing on me. The writing was good, flowed well and was easy to read. The world building wasn’t as great as other fantasy books I’ve read but I think this one focused a lot more on aspects that truly matter so I can overlook this fact. All in all I really enjoyed this book and it was a nice introduction into the world and the characters and I can’t wait for the next book!
Marquis is such a character, I love him and how he stood his ground and fought for what he loves and believes in. Atlas also really intrigued me from the beginning and how he always did things to help others. Chumana was also another favourite of mine! I like how despite all the terrible things she did, she made a decision to right the wrongs and fight the good fight. Her soft spot for Viv is one I also adore!!

1. It may cost her any type of leverage or favour she had with Wyvermire.
2. No I didn’t. Especially because of how they felt about Viv. But it was great to see that they were able to put their feelings aside for the greater good of the mission.
3. I do think that she will be able to. Every decision she has made has been to protect people and that, even if misguided at times, is not a bad quality to have.
4. I think it was a clever attempt from Viv. However, Wyvernmire has her own idea of what she wants and is playing things to fit her own agenda, so i dont believe her decision would have changed.
5. Yes i do think so. If they destroyed Bulgaria because of the humans discovering echolocation, I believe that they have come to help in disguise and will eventually attempt to kill the people of Britania for doing the same thing.
6. I dont think it was a mistake but i do think it was necessary. I think that even though it will put the rebellion back in terms of understanding echolocation, the risk was too high to allow there to be a possibility of Wyvermire getting it.

10. I really loved the book as a whole. I loved that each characters personalities developed throughout the story and the love interest wasn’t an immediate thing. I loved the slow burn of it right up until the end. I think the plot developed at an amazing pace. Each chapter was full of information and excitement without the story feeling rushed. I also really liked that the main character wasn’t immediately on the rebels side. It was refreshing.

1. The cost of her rebellion was physical and emotional.
2. Sereana and Gideon’s return was something I wasn’t sure would happen, but I am happy they did return. Their return set the stage for the deeper conflicts to unfold.
3. I believe there’s a chance for her to redeem herself. She has to deal with her own inner conflicts first.
4. The deal felt like an empty promise; Wyvernmire should have been less emotionally driven.

9. I was shocked, sad, and incredibly surprised. Atlas dying really ripped through me, along with Rhydderych’s death. I truly can’t wait for the sequel. I believe the second book would be where Viv works through her guilt and where the rebellion starts making changes.

9. I think the ending set the second book up in a really satisfying way. We know that the recruits are mostly safe, Ursa is back with Viv and they have seen what the rebels have been able to do. I feel saddened by the “possible death” of Atlas, but I think he isn’t really dead.
10. Honestly none of the human characters were firm favorites, Chumana has my heart, her sarcasm is peak entertainment.

Yes I do, because she is clever and resourceful. Even though some of her actions leave much to be desired, her intentions have always been about the good of her family.

No it wasn’t a mistake. With the machine destroyed, Wyvernmire can’t use it.

The ending broke my heart with a certain death… I think the 2nd book will be about learning more about the rebellion and I hope we get to see Viv and Ursa reunited with their parents.

9) The ending took me by surprise because I was not expecting those turn of events. For the sequel I expect to see more action taken from the rebellion and more truths to be revealed about the Bulgarian dragons alliance with the Prime minister. And I really really hope that the character who was deemed dead isn’t actually dead because that would truly be devastating.
10) I really enjoyed this book, I think it was a different take on a fantasy book involving dragons. I enjoyed the whole code cracking aspects to it. It was written beautifully, easy to understand and fast to get through.

Might just be my delusions but Sophie and Viv have some chemistry going on. Like why does she keep blushing? Enemies to lovers?

I really liked it, I like that the main character was not likeable. It annoyed me a lot of the time, but often, we see these heroes in books that do everything right at the right time, and that is not realistic. Some people do take longer to figure out what is right and what is wrong. It is a part of life.
