I enjoy telling stories verbally. I don’t think she’ll get caught.
Probably. Almost like a guardian angel.
I knew Mrs. Hattingh was meddling somehow, but this was cruel and selfish!
I’m so mad. I really don’t like Mrs. Hattingh.
Timothy’s not going to be visiting. Mrs. Hattingh is in denial.
I guessed this part right. I knew she was writing on behalf of Soraya without her knowledge. Such warped behaviour.
I knew they’d be… “off”… but this was all kinds of wrong! So gross.
It’s basically identity theft. Mrs. Hattingh stepping into Soraya’s life like this, as if it’s nothing, is diabolical. I can understand why Soraya feels the way she does.
I thought that maybe Mrs. Hattingh had done something awful (which wouldn’t be surprising at this point) and so he didn’t want to visit. Either that, or he’d died. I wasn’t expecting this…
No. I thought they were related or something.
I really hope Mrs. Hattingh realises the errors or her ways, and tries to fix the mess she’s made. I hope that Soraya find Nour before he leaves. I hope the relationship with her mother is mended and that she somehow is able to find work that will make her happy and support her family at the same time.

1. I’m not a storyteller like Soraya; her talent is unique and special. I worry that Mrs Hattingh might discover her writing and destroy it, which makes the act feel risky yet important.
2. I’m glad Soraya has Fatima by her side. Yes, I think Fatima understands Soraya’s struggles and is finally able to stand up for her in a way that feels safe and meaningful.
3. I expected Mrs Hattingh was up to something, but the extent of her manipulation and control at the dinner was both disappointing and shocking.
4. I’m enraged. I’ve never felt this level of anger for a character before. Mrs Hattingh’s control and manipulation is infuriating.
5. I don’t believe the reason given. At this point, I think Timothy has long passed away and Mrs Hattingh is in denial.
6. I’m furious with Mrs Hattingh. She has been keeping Soraya from Nour all along. The truth in the letter shows that Nour was in contact, and hiding this from Soraya is cruel and controlling.
7. The letters are infuriating and shocking. They expose the full extent of Mrs Hattingh’s lies and manipulation. It’s enraging to see how long she kept Soraya from the truth, controlling and deceiving her so completely. I feel like I’m permanently enraged reading the last few chapters.
8. This line is heartbreaking and powerful. It shows how Soraya feels erased and diminished.
9. I’m shocked by the letters, and part of me even feels a tiny bit of pity for Mrs Hattingh. It’s hard to see how deeply she’s entangled in her own lies, even as her actions hurt others so profoundly.
10. Not at all! I didn’t see this coming. It was completely unexpected and adds a surprising new layer to the story.
11. I want the truth to be fully revealed and for Soraya and Nour to find their way back to each other. At this point, I really don’t care what happens to Mrs Hattingh. Her fate feels far less important than justice and reunion.

1. I’m not a storyteller. I don’t think she will get caught.
2. I love that even though Soraya was “alone” she always had Fatima looking out for her and protecting her. I strongly believe that this is Fatima’s way of finally taking a stand.
3. I knew she loved meddling but the level of manipulation that was revealed at the dinner shocked even me.
4. I was livid! Never hated a character more than Mrs H in a long time!
5. I strongly believe that he has no intention of ever visiting and Mrs H just refuses to accept that.
6. You can clearly see that they’re not on the same page (no pun intended) because Soraya is heartbroken by Nours letter and now we finally see that Mrs H has been keeping communication with Nour via the letters without Soraya’s knowledge and lying about the contents too.
7. My heart broke for Soraya when she read all his letters. I wouldn’t have blamed her if she killed Mrs H at this point coz she had it long time coming.
8. It’s very true because Mrs H basically took Soraya’s place and used that to further isolate her.
9. The letters shocked me but I still couldn’t bring myself to feel sorry for Mrs H.
10. I expected there to be a link between them but not exactly that so it was a little surprising.
11. Mrs H can die alone! (No I’m not sorry) and that Soraya and Nour rekindle their love and that the truth is revealed and they have a happy and beautiful life.

1. I am not a storyteller like Soraya, I prefer to read them. I don’t think that being caught will be a bad thing as people loved her stories growing up. And I bet you they will love what she has to say after working for Mrs Hattingh.
2. I think that Fatima’s spirit couldn’t rest until she knew the next girl would be safe from Mrs Hattingh. And I do think that she got to stand up to Mrs Hattingh through Soraya as she often guided Soraya on what to do.
3. Mrs Hattingh was cruel for inviting Mr Cartwright knowing he held Nour’s future in his hand. In a way she seemed to be showing Soraya her contacts and power.
4. I definitely felt angry, even before these chapters.
5. I kept thinking of my theory that he is not alive…
6. I was so angry at Mrs Hattingh, playing with people’s lives like they’re puppets.
7. This part was crazy! It left me speechless! How could she write those things?
8. This was such a powerful line. It shows how Mrs Hattingh took away Soraya’s identity and voice through a simple act of changing Soraya’s words into her own. Almost taking on Soraya’s identity and shifting the narrative to what she wants, rendering Soraya not only unaware but powerless.
9. This was also crazy! Based on my theory I did not see this coming. To think that Mrs Hattingh has been hiding this away from everyone. Playing with everyone’s lives for the sake of keeping up her identity.
10. I did not expect that. Now it makes sense on why she felt familiar to Soraya, and that they were both looking out for her as they were the same person.
11. I wish that Soraya gets justice for everything she went through and I wish her and Nour a happily ever after. I’m glad that Mrs Hattingh is no longer in the Cape however I don’t like that she still wishes to be in Soraya’s life through the lemon tree and the memories it will bring. -

1. I used to love creative writing while I was growing up, I think we all wave or own stories in some way. No, i do not think she will get caught.

2, I don’t think Fatima had many people looking out for her, so I am so glad she is guiding Soraya. She definitely has walked a similar path so feels like she needs to help Soraya, however she can.

3, I honestly hated her at this point. She is a despicable person who only looks out for herself. She is so so so so selfish, it is beyond infuriating.

Was starting to feel very suspicious at this point, there were too many delays and something is not adding up. I don’t believe anything that Mrs H says.

6, I felt all the emotions Soraya experienced, shock, anger and bewilderment.

7, This line hit me deeply. Mrs H stole a piece of Soraya and moulded her life into a pawn to be played with. She tried to slip into Soraya’s life and stole personal moments that were never hers to begin with. Gosh, I hate Mrs H.

8, I feel terrible for Timothy, and even worse or him that his more didn’t drop everything and go and be by his side instead of creating this illusion of another life.Did you expect Fatima to be the subject of Rosa?

I think storyteller is an art worth pursuing, I would like to think I am but its touch and go at times lol.
I think so, I don’t exactly know how Fatima came to be at the residence, but I do think she is taking a stand in whatever way she can.
Jaw on the floor, I suspected she had some part to play in it, but I didn’t think she would go this far to block him for her own gain in keeping Soraya.
I think it’s unfair that she demands so much of her life, but I wouldn’t say it invokes anger in me. I think it’s that whole thing of you just obey even when the yoke is heavy, I think the younger generation (myself included) are more defiant, but I think under her mother’s time and standard her mum would tell her to suck it up.
I think it’s a falsehood.
Now this I did not expect, this was beyond the pale. I was shocked, how could she deceive her so, and good on Soraya for being able to read so that she could saw the level and depth of this deception. It makes me sad to think others might not have been as fortunate and would have to just accept whatever they were told, and I think that’s a cruelness I’ll never understand.
I think its apt. I think Mrs H defs blurred the lines beyond what was appropriate.
I felt sad to hear what a state he was in and how the doctors barred Mrs H from visiting. I felt sympathetic towards her in that moment, but it no way justifies the lengths she went to.
I did not.
To be honest, I just want Nour and Soraya to be reunited.

1) I don’t think she will be caught. But I’m glad for her. She needs to start doing this to improve her writing but also capture her unique stories.
2) Fatima knows how unhinged Mrs. H can be so I think it’s both protecting Soraya and in someway standing up to Mrs. H which she couldn’t do when she was employed/alive.
3) I was so shocked. I didn’t realise she would stoop so low. My jaw was literally on the floor the whole of these two chapters.
4) a lot of anger – she has no right to have to much control of Soraya’s life.
5) It sounds like a lie!
6) I feel like we’re missing a very big chunk of information. And it seems sudden.
7) again. Absolute shock and a little disgust. What on earth did Mrs. H think she was doing. I feel terrible for Soraya and disbelief in what Mrs. H did.
8) it’s heartbreaking. Mrs. H completely erased Soraya and her essence, the way she basically took over her and Nour’s relationship for her own selfish gain.
9) The twisted truths just keep coming. I knew there was a lot hidden about Timothy but this was next level and it all makes sense now. I feel so sorry for him – his treatment. All of it.
10) no – but it makes complete sense! And that this was her unfinished business. Taking ownership of her identity. It makes me think that Rosa/Fatima used to actually live in the house.
11) I’m hoping Soraya and Nour make amends and he finds out the truth. And I hope she is finally rid of Mrs. H. And for Mrs. H’s sake, I hope she does to Timothy and makes peace with his circumstances.

I used to be a storyteller, but stopped a while ago. I initially thought that Soraya would be caught, but I’m glad she wasn’t.
I thought it was a nice moment of solidarity that Fatima was able to offer Soraya.
I was genuinely so mad on Soraya’s behalf. The nerve of this woman ruining and manipulating lives at her whim just to keep Soraya under her control was astounding.
I’ve never felt so suffocated and angry on a fictional character’s behalf as I did while reading these chapters.
I’m so glad Soraya had the context of what she’d eavesdropped at the dinner to be able to see right through Mrs Hattingh’s nonsense and read the letter for herself. But it was so heartbreaking to read about how far her manipulation ran that even Soraya’s relationship with Nour had been damaged.
The letters paint such a heartbreaking portrayal of the wedge that was driven between Nour and Soraya without Soraya’s knowledge.
I thought it was such a powerful way of capturing how Mrs Hattingh’s control over the letters allowed her to take Soraya’s voice, freedom, relationship with Nour and her identity away after using the letters to further isolate Soraya.
They made me so sad for poor Timothy, but feel absolutely nothing for his horrible, manipulative mother. The knowledge of what happened to Timothy doesn’t excuse Mrs Hattingh’s actions or the damage that it caused to Nour and Soraya.
I wasn’t expecting it. I thought they were two different people all along.
I’m hoping Soraya can escape Mrs Hattingh or go full “lady in the attic” and burn the house down and Mrs Hattingh in it. And I’m hoping she can contact Nour and undo the damage that Mrs Hattingh’s letters created. But above all, I’m hoping for freedom for Soraya from this nightmare.
