6. I was as thrown as Rosemary was! But I liked that he did it to show that he really was serious even though she still had cold feet

1. It’s sweet and honourable. It says more about her character than that of her grandfather.

4. It’s poor judgement. Either option was a bad idea so it would have been better if she just went with her heart.

11. The community was probably fed up with the violence and hijackings. This was probably exaggerated because his father is a prominent community member as well. Status doesn’t always protect people.
12. It definitely has criminal elements but he could also just be used to his old lifestyle. I’m not too sure because he is very influential and has many connections. So somewhere along the line there would inevitably be some shady dealings.
13. It was heartbreaking. The cyclical dysfunction and trauma is palpable in this family. It’s gut wrenching that children are sometimes forced to inherit the dysfunction of their parents. -

1. Very sweet. I quite enjoyed how he bonded with Gal after she revealed her news about her first pregnancy. It was an honourable thing to do.
2. In our culture, the elders would say that this is the way Mthunzi’s ancestors wanted to reveal who the child belonged to especially in this case where the truth is being hidden about who her real father is.
3. I did wonder at first but then later finding out that Gal was still living the same lifestyle of going out to see the races and being Mthunzi’s biggest supporter, I had my suspicions.
4. The problem with Gal is she always wants to impress others even if it means suppressing her real feelings. This was a bad idea on her part knowing that she didn’t even have strong enough feelings for Sbu in the first place.
5. Good for her. I love that Rosemary knows exactly what she wants.
6. Based on what Rosemary shared about Ntsika having to grow his family after the passing of his father, I understand the urgency to act now and to make this decision. He could have at least sent her a heads up though so she could also manage her family.
7. No. Culturally the groom’s family need to offer a vula’mlomo at the gate and this is a cultural act. Maybe Seun just saw it as an opportunity lol he couldn’t miss out on.
8. Yes, this is true. She doesn’t want to rush into marriage as she feels she needs to have her ducks in a row before taking on this role of becoming a wife. It has a lot to do with her and the perfectionist she is.
9. Nope. Not really. In my eyes, I don’t see it happening.
10. I am really proud of Mthunzi, he delivered on everything he promised Gal and she fell short.
11. The community had been living in fear for to long and they wanted to put an end to all the hijackings and Bumchee was caught in the act. I do think Rabe might have been in the crowd but couldn’t save his brother in the end.
12. Could be that he was still loyal to Bumchee because he confirmed that he taught Bumchee everything he knew including the spinning and hijacking. Maybe he felt responsible to stand up for him.
13. This was utterly heartbreaking to learn it through Lesedi’s voice. She is so fond of Sbu and I don’t think their relationship will be the same after this especially because Sbu is being charged with murder.

1. I don’t think it was necessary to be honest. Maybe one child not both.
2. I feel like if there is a second book it would reveal this. Mthunzi’s genes are definitely stronger but it’s also so that Gal can’t hide the truth forever.

5. School is a lot so if you can cut those years and still get to where you want to, by all means go for it (honest ways only please).

12. Mthuzi is a criminal bandla no matter how hard he can work he just can’t convince me. But in the same breath I’m hopeful that he can change.
13. That was so sad I almost felt sorry for him. I also felt that it was so unfair for her to experience all this pain for a man that not even her father.

1. I actually thought it was really touching. It says a lot about who she is at her core.

11. I didn’t expect the crowd to turn on Bymchee so quickly, but when people are angry and looking for revenge, it makes sense. The family’s status didn’t shield them.
12. There are definitely darker undertones. Whether it is old habits or shady dealings, his influence and connections mean there is more going on beneath the surface.
13. That part was heartbreaking. You really feel the weight of the family’s dysfunction, and how children are sometimes left to carry the damage of the generation before them.
