1. Seeing the person you love move on is painful, so I wasn’t really surprised by her reaction.

4. I knew this was going to happen. They can never really let go of each other.
5. She’s just young. I understand her, a plan like that could definitely feel like they’re rushing things. Yes, they’re serious and all that, but they’re still young and have got a lot of time for the plan.
6. It was heartwarming. It’s nice to see her behaviour towards Moipone change.
7. Rosemary did mention that she knows Rabe has a crush on her, but she can’t be in a relationship with him. She’s in a relationship anyway, Rabe should move on.

9. I don’t understand why she’s there, but Seun says he’s going to marry her the following year. I guess it makes sense for her to follow him.

11. Yeah, Keke definitely loves/loved Sello more than her own daughter. It was painful to read. If her daughter came first, I don’t think she’d have ran to Gauteng. Their relationship might have even been better.

13. The family was in shambles long before, and I think it’s Lemohang’s fault in a way.

17. I think it’s pretty late for that conversation to have any real impact at this stage. For Buang’s closure, sure it will do something. It explains a lot of things. I’ve known he had favorites from the beginning of the book, I just didn’t think it would be this deep.

4. A little unexpected and yet completely expected as well. Again, I think she knew what she was doing.
5. My first thought was why is he trying to be so controlling… but it may just be that she just doesn’t want to forward plan.

7. I don’t know if Rosemary is that interested in Rabe. I do find the dynamics of M wanting Rabe interesting. She is quite forward in her chasing.

10. I think she was trying to get attention, which all makes sense after she reveals what happened to her. Definitely female rage there.
11. It would have been vastly different had her mother believed her! It makes me so sad that she didn’t for whatever her reasons. I don’t necessarily believe that she thought she loved Sello more, I just think she didn’t want to be without a man so sacrificed her daughter in order to keep him.

14. Personally, I find it odd. But I guess her reasoning behind it is that she doesnt want to be reliant on her family so she wants to get out even if Rabe is not remotely interested in her.

1. She’s definitely yearning for a something she doesn’t have and probably feeling slighted for not making a different choice.

4. I definitely saw it coming and their behaviour was obviously leading up to this relationship.
5. I think she has daddy issues. I also think her perspective on men and how they disregard the value of women has been something this she subconsciously despises based on her lived experience. She probably wants to experience a romantic relationship but it’s not easy for her to relinquish control and just trust someone else with her future.

11. I think Keke is a broken woman and a horrible mother. I do think her love of men is something that overshadows any love or affection she could have for her child. I think that if she believed Moipone she would probably still choose to live in denial, fearful of losing Sello.
12. He sounds confused to me. It’s almost as if Buang is his weak point.
13. I think it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back. It aggravated an already existing cycle of dysfunction.

18. Yeah, I agree that Gal is a disappointment. However, her environmental influence and contextual knowledge of what the Ntoi women have had to endure is something that makes the situation unsurprising. Sadly. -
1. She was jealous, part of her believed that Mthunzi would wait for her even though she had chosen Sbu. It made it even more jealous when the girl she saw Mthunzi with, was her complete opposite.
2. No, they were not together so it wasn’t her place.
3. Definitely. For most part Gal knew that she loved Mthunzi and wanted to be with him. So even though she chose to be with Sbu she did all she could to keep showing Mthunzi that she loves him and would do almost anything for him.
4. Part of me feels like she wanted to at least have a piece of Mthunzi to hold on to thus everything that happened.
5. I definitely think it’s the trauma of seeing how love has been for the women around her and not believing that things could be any different for her.
6. I loved that she was slowly opening up to accepting Moipone and seeing her as a sister and not her competition or somewhere there to steal her families love. She knows how Chumani is with girls and just doesn’t want that for Moipone.
7. She wanted to show Rabe that he is chasing after a girl that doesn’t really like him and yes I think she is right. Or maybe Rosemary and Rabe could’ve worked if they met later on in life.
8. Seun and Keke are the same honestly. They are just a lost cause and it breaks my heart that there was no “better” parent for Moipone between the two of them.
9. I felt that Keke was probably also carrying unresolved trauma because why would she gladly move to another province with a man that has never done right by her? She just wanted love, no matter the cost.

11. Sello was definitely right, Keke just loved love even at her daughter’s expense. I think Moipone wouldn’t have stayed with the likes of Rabe for that long. I think she would’ve possibly done well for herself in school and also got a decent job.
12. I definitely don’t think it’s sound. He has a deeper reason if not being in love with Warona. I think he definitely saw Buang as a mistake and thus he stayed away all those years.
13. The Ntoi’s never really sat as a family to address things and thus so much lingered for so long.
14. Rabe stayed with Moipone because everyone around him convinced him that it was the right thing to do. But he never loved her.
15. Lebogang was also carrying his own trauma of being left to father a child that wasn’t his. Thus he always believed that Buang was out to hurt him.
16. She just wanted to fit in. But I also found it all to be rude because why did she use Buang’s things without asking?
17. They honestly needed that conversation. So much has happened over the years that they did not address. As painful as it was they needed that conversation.

1. Gal still loves Mthunzi so naturally she is jealous seeing him with another woman and she secretly wishes it was her and that things had turned out differently for them. Explains her reaction.
2. No. She could have just moved on swiftly.
3. Oh yes, 100%. She had regrets for things not working out the way she thought they would between them. She wanted to be with him more than the father of her son, Sbu.
4. We kind of saw this one coming. They both really couldn’t get over each other.
5. I think Rosemary, as much as she knows Ntsika is serious about her and their relationship, she still has doubts of it failing and whether or not she is ready for the next big step with him. Understanding her trauma of growing up and not knowing her father, this might be one of her biggest fears, committing to a man only for them to leave her alone with their kids as what happened to Buang.
6. So heartwarming to see Rosemary become so overly protective of Moipone. You can definitely see the growth in Rosemary’s character and she obviously knows Chumani more than Moipone does and she doesn’t want her to get hurt.
7. Rosemary also reveals that she knew Rabe had a crush on her long before Moipone came along but she doesn’t picture herself being with or marrying anyone from the same place she grew up in. Maybe that is why she had not given him the attention in the first place.
8. I am so disappointed that he returned and even more so that he returns with Keke, the same person that Moipone is trying to get away from. They are both careless and not deserving of the gift of being parents to Moipone.
9. I wish Buang or Lemohang would chase her away as she is not married to Seun and has no right to be there. It just confirms her need to always have a man by her side.
10. At this moment I think Moipone is brave and has taken full control of her power by admitting what happened back home with Keke. But the family is still letting her down in keeping Keke around her.
11. If things had turned out differently and Keke believed and supported Moipone from the very first time she showed signs of being abused by Sello, Moipone would have immediately felt loved and protected by Keke. She failed her by siding with Sello and she proved she loved him more.
12. He sounds conflicted. Like he still admires Buang but still wants to be with his wife.
13. As things play out, it seems the family has been battling with so much over the years that has not been addressed and their father is partly responsible for it. His favoritism towards his children and how much he resents Buang shows how he handles issues and noone has had the courage to speak up to him about it. Now it is affecting the next generation of Ntoi women and how they deal with issues within the family.
14. It was doomed from the very beginning. Moipone shouldn’t have persisted seeing he was not initially interested in her.
15. This unpacks their relationship dynamic even more for me. I could tell Lemohang did not appreciate any of the things Buang has done for him because of who she is. He is quite problematic as well.
16. This was so annoying. I don’t know why Buang let it slide and offered her the dress. At this point, Keke, overstayed her welcome for me.
