Fourth Wing READALONG Wrap Up

Lies are comforting. Truth is painful. Fourth Wing page 482

Much like all the other chapters, above the chapter header of Chapter Thirty-Five, we read more about Fen Riorson. We learn that he was talking about a conspiracy that everyone from the King to his military were aware of. What do you think this conspiracy is?

Do you think this conspiracy relates to what the Gryphons said about Venin? What do you think of Xaden and Violet’s dragons keeping the existence of Venin a secret from her?

How do you feel about Dain reading Violet’s memories and using this information to essentially dispose of the riders with the relic?

We will feast on their bones, Silver One. Fourth Wing page 494

Venin are very real and they have a goal. In Chapter Thirty-Six, the trading post of Resson is being attacked and those who were sent from Basgiath have a choice. Prove loyalty to the secret of Navarre or save innocent lives. What would you do in this situation?

Chapter Thirty-Six is filled with action but also heartbreak. Deigh is killed and as a result, Liam as well. The battle is turning from one where our dragon riders had the advantage to one where the losses are heavy. Do you think Violet can pull off the attack she needs to make to save everyone?

You have to fight, Vi… You can hate me all you want when you wake up. You can scream, hit, throw your fucking daggers at me for all I care, but you have to live. You can’t make me fall for you and the die. None of this is worth it without you. Fourth Wing page 529

In Chapter Thirty-Seven, we learn that the Venin have a teacher. Do you think that they are more advanced than just nomads learning on the way? Do you think there is also a school for them?

Do you think Violet has reached the end of her powers in Chapter Thirty-Seven?

Xaden is left with a difficult decision due to Violet’s injury. In the end, he decides to risk it all. We learn that Xaden has taken her home. To Aertia. What do you think of Xaden’s decision to take Violet there?

After a torturous three days of waiting for Violet to wake up and our first glimpse into Xaden’s mind, what do you make of Aertia being rebuilt and the rest of Navarre not knowing much of the area despite their previous rebellious history?

Fourth Wing ends on perhaps the biggest reveal possible. Brennan is alive. What do you think this will mean for Violet and Brennan? How do you think this will impact her relationship with Mira?

Thank you for joining us in reading Fourth Wing! In just under three weeks, we’ve followed Violet over the parapet, seen her win her first challenge. We saw her get not one but two dragons. We felt her loss as her friends and squadmates did not make it. We cried for Liam and we raged at Xaden. But the journey is not over yet. We will be following Violet, Xaden and the rest of the dragon riders in Iron Flame. Click here for more information on that readalong!

At this point, I know whatever theory I have will be wrong 🤭 so I’m not even going to try. But I have a feeling that the conspiracy is linked to the venin.

I feel their dragons should have prepared them, even just a mention in passing so that they could have an idea, but perhaps they hoped it would never come to this.

Dain 😤 he is really just stepping over borders at this point. His ‘care’ has long since turned into something else.

I would have felt torn, but in the end I would have chosen to save innocent lives.
Liam…. that hit so hard! I am still not over it. I think Violet has it in her but she also needs some guidance since she is still in a tug of war with her signet.

That quote of pg529!! I felt it in my soul. So heartbreaking.
I think the Venin’s teacher might be more advanced, but everything has a weakness. I doubt if there’s a school. If there is, Basgiath is in trouble.

I have no idea. I hope not. Even though she doesn’t like her power, I still feel it will be important at some point.
I think Xaden truly cares for Violet, knowing that taking her home will have its on consequences and actions.

I am quite intrigued by Aertia and learning more about it.

Brennan! Oh my goodness! Their relationship might not be the same at first, since both have gone through a hard time. Regarding Mira, I feel Mira should be told as soon as possible, otherwise she’ll feel betrayed.

Thank you so so much for having me on this readalong 🫶 I had such an amazing time. Onto Iron Flame! I can’t wait!

    • I think he knew something and maybe he was punished for what he knew…

    • I do and I think Xaden had a reason to keep it a secret and Violet lowkey overreacted about the Venin secret but at the same time I sympathize with her feelings.

    • I am absolutely pissed, livid, disappointed and infuriated at Dain. I hate him and want Tairn to incinerate him stat.

    • I think I’d stay and help save innocent people and kids even if I was extremely scared and a bit confused initially.

    • Liam’s death made me sOb and it hurt. Violet is the fmc and like most main characters she’ll make them win.

    • I think yes. Venin are more complex and they are studying this dark form. I dont think there’s a school per say but definitely a clique/group.

    • Nope, not possible

    • I think Xaden acted smart and also it was about time Violet found out the whole truth about her brother and Xaden’s former home.

    • I loved that, it gave off extra dystopian vibes and I liked that the “rebels” were building back what was taken from them.

    • This was huge! I suspected someone that was proclaimed dead would be alive but it still made me gasp. As for Mira honestly she didnt cross my mind at that moment.

    So excited for Iron Flame
