House of Blight – Day Four

What do you think was in the medicine Vora gave Edira? Was it something to help Edira or do you think that it did something else to Edira?

Do you think Rowena’s warning to Edira to “cure no one” was for the Evers and not just a general warning?

Edira reads Rowena’s diary from her time at Fernglove. She notes that the writing is stiff and so different from her previous memoirs. Edira believes it is because even though she agreed to help find a cure, she did not do so happily. Do you think this is true or do you think Rowena is hiding something in the memoir for Edira to find?

On the same note, Edia notices that pages are missing from the memoir. Who do you think removed the pages? Why do you think they were removed?

What do you think of the pruning method to threadmend?

We finally learned where Evers came from. Were you right in your guesses?

Who do you think the Embergraves are?

In Chapter Ten we also learn about Heartbonded Evers. Do you think there are Evers who have abused this connection?

What do you think of Orin’ transformation? Do you think that by removing the glamour Edira will be able to find out how to work on Ever threads?

We are slowly being introduced to potential romances. What do you think of the romance that seems to be blooming between Edira and Orin?

When Edria calls to her magic and in response Orin slams his glamour back on. Do you think it is because Orin sensed someone coming, or do you think it has something to do with Edira’s power?

Rorik mentions that Orin’s patience is a farce. Do you think this is true? Will he force Edira to threadmend even if she is not physically ready?

Why do you think Orin wants Edira at the silver fete? Could it be to show off her powers? Or is it because Orin wants to keep Edira close?

Edira hopes she will be able to spend a couple of years with her brother before she passes on. Do you think she will get the opportunity?

Orin also asks Edira to have a green dress made for the fete. What sort of moves do you think Orin is pulling here?

What do you think tried to call Edira?

    1. I’m not sure. Perhaps the medicine was to make Edira more compliant somehow.
    2. As the story progresses, I think Rowena’s warning might have been Ever-specific, but considering that healing someone takes a few years off of their own lives, it might also have been a general warning.
    3. Edira did know her aunt’s writing style and they were quite close. Perhaps she left the stiff style as a kind of code for Edira to crack.
    4. One of the Evers possibly removed it. Perhaps someone does not want to find a cure for Mavis and is working against the family.
    5. I don’t think it could work – threads aren’t like plants, they don’t grow back. I believe pruning would lead to death, either for the patient or the mender.
    6. I was way off-base.
    7. Evers who might have decided to mix with mortals, instead of keeping themselves aside like the others.
    8. Absolutely! It would fit right in with their usual behaviour.
    9. It sounds like he looks terrifying without the glamour. Yes, removing the glamour makes her see clearer.
    10. I think Edira and Orin are a better match than Edira and Rorik. Orin seems nice enough and I believe that he might have her best interests at heart.
    11. I don’t think he wanted Edira to see his threads – they might be just as decayed as the other Evers’ she’s seen.
    12. It is possible that Orin is just being patient as long as Edira is playing along. If she takes too long or outright refuses, he might push her.
    13. I think he wants to keep her close so that he can keep an eye on her.
    14. Unfortunately, I don’t think her brothers are going to make it out alive at the end of this story.
    15. He’s lulling her into a sense of security with him, flattering her and also, showing everyone else that she essentially belongs to him.
    16. Either an Ever playing tricks or some magical creature, like a spirit or something.

✨I think it might just be something laced with Ever magic that is stronger but I don’t think Vora had any bad intentions. She doesn’t seem to want to harm Edira.

✨I think Rowena’s warning is leaning more towards not curing the Evers as it looks like no other threadmender has been successful.

✨I think Rowena had to change her writing since she knew that the Evers would be reading it, compared to her previous memoirs.

✨Since she was the last known threadmender I think there was some crucial information about the blight and the cure that the Evers didn’t want Edira to know.

✨It seems like a dangerous method and could’ve been the cause of a previous threadmender’s death.

✨I’m so bad at guessing but I’m very intrigued by them!

✨Possibly a family that has been keeping to themselves due to a past scandal.

✨Absolutely. It could possibly be the cause of Mavis’ blight and why the rest of the family is having weaknesses in their threads.

✨Amazing but terrifying but cool! The Evers are such a unique take on fae. Absolutely. Removing the glamours is essential to help her work.

✨I like him and I’ve been rooting for him since they met! He is still a little suspicious but I love his attitude!

✨It was definitely to do with her power. I don’t know why though.

✨I hope not. He seems kind to her and patient so I don’t think so.

✨I think he wants to gain her trust and affection.

✨If curing the blight and Mavis doesn’t take too many years, then yes.

✨I think he is trying to win her affections. Especially with making her a dress and having them match will tie her to him.

✨I think it was Lydia but everyone has been warned to stay away from Edira so it could be a ghost.

I think it was something with magic in but i do believe it is what Vora stated, somethin to help heal her and to help her sleep. Vora seems to be trying to protect her so i dont think there was anything malicious behind the remedy.

I am not sure. We aren’t given any information as to whether Rowena knew what was going on with the threadmenders and the Evers so I think it is a general warning but can apply to the Evers as well. Maybe she knew in general that tryin to heal Evers could be detrimental to threadmenders.

I think there is more to the memoir that meets the eye. I also believe she wrote it as more of a research type book so it would differ to her poetry writing in general however, i do think we will find more clues and information in the book later in the story.

Maybe she wrote some sort of secret that either she wanted to keep hidden, like Maybe the Evers or Mavis specifically is causing the blight themselves, so she removed and hid it somewhere else. Or perhaps one of the Evers removed it because she was too close to getting down to the secret on how to cure the Evers.

I don’t think it is a viable option. I think that if you cut a life thread it wont grow back and thats what killed the threadmender that attempted this.

No, I originally thought that Edira was a more in line with the women in the beginning of the book but I guess as we read on it does become more obvious that it would be the Evers that are the direct descendants. I still think the threadmenders could also be linked because they have magic.

I think they perhaps mixed with mortals and possibly created threadmenders. It is hard to say so I am just making wild assumptions at the moment.

Most definitely. It matches up with how they are described in character. I think it would be a way to ensure their family lines remain stronger than others.

I am surprised at how easily convinced he was to remove the glamour. I do think it will make things easier for Edira.

I like it however, I am very suspicious. I dont feel like it has happened naturally. I think that Orin is magically manipulating her because it happened so quickly. Its like they met then like two days later they are already half in love. Its just moving on too quickly.

I think it had something to do with Edira’s powers. He has never mentioned being able to sense someone approaching and the reaction was almost immediate to Edira calling on her power so I think they are linked.

I tend to side with Rorik’s description of Orin in most cases. I think he is genuinly being kid to Edira however i think that the patience he shows with her will wear thin at some stage and I do foresee him forcing her to do something at some stage whether she is ready to or not or whether she wants to or not.

I think it is to keep her close. I think he is working on gaining her trust and making himself look like a good guy and this is one way to do it.

No, i think they unfortunately won’t survive the story.

It is definitely a power move and he is using this as a way to manipulate her feelings towards him by making her feel important.

I think it could possibly be a ghost or an Ever that wants to reveal some sort of truth to her but it had to disappear when it saw Lydia.

I think the medicine was to help Edira.

I think it was for both – the Evers and as a general warning, as everyone can exploit her powers, not just the Evers.

I think Rowena is hiding something, as only those who know her, like Edira, would pick up that something was wrong.

It’s possible that Orin removed them, as it might have had important information that he doesn’t want shared.

I don’t think that method would work. And it’s not explained in detail to show its success. It was also emphasized by another threadmender to not cut, which proves that it might not be effective.

    I wasn’t 100% right on this!😅 I thought of it as a possibility, not a fact.

We know the Evers abilities are somehow linked to their family name. I think the Embergraves abilities have something to do with death.

I do think so! How far would power-hungry Evers go to stay in (or enter) power? And it says that power is transferred, not feelings, so how would you know if it’s for power and not genuine love?

Orin made himself vulnerable to Edira by showing her. Even with his glamour off, she still found it hard to see his threads.

I’m not yet convinced with whatever’s blooming between Orin and Edira. I don’t know why I keep thinking it’s a front to keep her there.

I think it has something to do with Edira’s power.

I’m with Rorik on this – if he wants to save Mavis so badly, why is he not rushing Edira to find a cure?

I think he wants to show Edira off – some power move against the other Evers.

I’m not that optimistic, the first person she will have to save is Mavis, and who knows how much that would take out of her.

That just proves it’s to show her off as his. Maybe there’s something more to Edira that we don’t know of yet.

Maybe it’s one of the Embergraves trying to call her…

    – Vora is too cunning for anything to be purely benevolent. I suspect the medicine had a dual purpose. On the surface, it likely helped stabilize Edira’s physical state so she could keep working, but it probably also made her more compliant or dulled her senses.

    – Definitely for the Evers and not just a general warning. Rowena understood that curing an Ever means disrupting the entire power balance and the control the Houses have.

    – I think it’s both. Rowena may have written stiffly to hide coded messages. The missing warmth feels intentional as if she were burying clues in plain sight for Edira to decode later.

    – Either Rowena herself, to keep the knowledge from falling into the wrong hands or someone within the House, like Vora or Orin, who needed to hide dangerous information about threadmending or the truth behind the Evers’ creation. The pages probably contained a method or truth that could upend the power structures.

    – It’s horrifying but clever I will admit but pruning implies cutting away what’s “unwanted,” but who gets to decide what is unwanted? It reveals the brutal cost of mending. It feels less like healing and more like controlling.

    – Not entirely! I suspected they were artificially made or some form of altered humans, but the twist that they’re fundamentally entangled with forbidden magic and may not want to be cured adds a layer I didn’t expect. It’s tragic and monstrous at once.

    – They could be the keepers of the original secrets of threadmending. I wouldn’t be surprised if Orin has ties to them.

    – Absolutely. If you have a forced bond that connects your life to someone else’s, there’s huge room for manipulation. Some Evers probably exploit this to secure power or protection.

    – Orin’s transformation shows how much he’s hiding, the glamour might literally be masking the truth of what he is. Seeing his real form could help Edira map the threads more accurately (she might finally see how the Ever magic interlaces with flesh).

    – It’s deliciously tense and morally gray — he’s both captor and reluctant protector. The slow-burn trust and sharp danger make it compelling. But I do wonder if Orin truly cares for her or sees her as a means to an end or both. It’s messy and I love it. BUT at the same time I still wonder a lot about Rorik.

    – I think it was Edira’s power. Her magic probably brushes against the truth of him.

    – Yes. Orin walks a fine line between wanting Edira to survive and needing her abilities now. If he’s desperate enough or if the House pressures him, he’ll push her past her limits, even if it destroys her.

    – Both, flaunting her power strengthens his House’s status, but keeping her close lets him control her. The green dress could be a political statement too: presenting her as both ornament and threat.

    – I fear she won’t or if she does, it will be short and bittersweet. This story is set up for sacrifice, and Edira is being pulled too deep into the Houses’ schemes to just walk away.

    – Green could symbolize life, envy, or rebirth, it could be a subtle claim that Edira is a source of power and new beginnings under his House’s banner.

    – I suspect it was the threads themselves. There’s an unsettling sense that the magic has its own voice, and it’s trying to warn her or pull her deeper.

I don’t think Vora has malicious intentions. I think it was to help heal Edira and for sleep.

Rowena kept warning before she was ‘taken’, but maybe once she was, she learnt more and changed her tune? We don’t know for sure because she’s passed on. But I think the warning was more because menders disappeared and it was a safety precaution.

Something is definitely up with that. Was it actually written by Rowena? Hence the changes. Was it written under duress? Not sure yet.

It must be because something is being hidden. I’m just not sure why yet.

I mean, it was tested and with the conclusion of “don’t cut”, it must’ve had dire consequences.

Nope. But that doesn’t surprise me. I’m terrible when my comes to theories. Very much a passenger princess when reading 😂

    Probably another Ever family…

I would think so because of the warning to not take the bond lightly.

I don’t think so. I think it was more to do with curiosity. She needs to see the threads in order to heal.

It slow and subtle but it’s there. With a bit of tension.

I think a bit of both. As I mentioned with the threads but then Rorik also happened to arrive.

He’s been good to her so far, so I’d like to think not. But we don’t know him that well yet. We haven’t actually seen him snap.

Again I think it’s a bit of both but we also don’t have the full picture yet. There could even be an alternative reason than this.

I hope so. I think so. Otherwise this will be a tragedy.

I suppose to make it look like they’re standing united. Edira said she doesn’t like Green so much but she was already choosing to wear it to make Orin happy.

    I think it’s Mavis, somehow projecting?? 🤔

I think it was something to help Edira, Vora said she would never harm Edira. And maybe I’m naive for believing that but I don’t think harming her would be good considering the protection Orin offers.

A general warning, I think it was so that she could’ve lived undetected.

I think Rowena hid something in the event that Edira became their threadmender.

I think they were removed, maybe Rowena had figured something out and wanted to protect that knowledge?

I don’t think it’ll work, threads don’t grow back like plants.

My guess was indeed correct, thank goodness😂

Maybe half ever half human? I’m not sure, because now that I say it — it seems completely insane.

Oh yes, there’s no way they haven’t.

Yes I feel like the glamour hides so much of what she needs to see in order to threadmend. But yikes, he sounds scary.

I don’t think there’s much chemistry, and there’s too many reasons to not trust Orin. I’m honestly hoping things will bloom more with Rorik. The way Orin speaks and everything he says seems so rehearsed.

Orin is tricky, I’m assuming it’s because he didn’t want Edira to see his threads.

    Yes.

I think he wants to keep her close, maybe in a protective way or maybe as a way to make sure she’s being monitored.

    No.

I think he’s marking his territory but also might actually be liking her, he might also be doing these gestures as a way for her to lower her guard in a false sense of security.

An ever. But since people have been warned against messing with Edira maybe it’s something supernatural?

    1. I think Vora is actually one of the people who really wants to help Edira. I think it was just a bunch of herbs and maybe a bit of Ever magic to speed up her healing.

    2. I think it was a general warning. The minute she cures someone, she’ll be taken advantage of. Everyone will want her to cure them. It’s better to keep going under the assumption that she can’t actually cure an Ever.

    3) I think the diaries are stiff because she was forced to document it and only included what she had to. She knew they would be read, so she wouldn’t put the full truth in there. I feel like her real findings are hidden somewhere else.

    4) I think Rowena tried something and that’s what got her killed. I think the Evers probably want Edira to try the same thing, so they removed those pages so she doesn’t see what it was and get scared out of doing it.

    5) I think the pruning method can work like amputations. But you have to be really selective about what you cut off.

    6) Yes. I was exactly right. I knew they were related to the old lady with the stones.

    7) I HAVE NO IDEA…. But something about merging Evers and Humans with Magic

    8) YES… Especially when playing with power and alliances. Like if one family has strong magic and another has resources, they’ll make a deal. That kind of thing.

    9) I think so. She’ll finally be able to actually see the threads. You can’t heal something or fix it if you don’t know what you’re working with.

    10) I hate it. I think Orin is trying to manipulate her. I really don’t want her to end up with him. Every time they’re together, I hate it! I believe he’s plying her with platitudes so she’ll act like a pawn or a chess piece. I want her to end up with Rorik.

    11) He’s definitely hiding something. I think it has something to do with why the girls looked at her differently.

    12) Yes. As I said above, I think Orin is just trying to use her.

    13) I think it’s a bit of both. He wants to show everyone that he has a threadmender on his side. It’s definitely a power play. Yes, he probably wants to keep an eye on her, but this is about showing off in front of the other Ever houses.

14)I hope so, else what is the point of the book and series…

    15) It’s a statement. Tying into his manipulation of the whole situation.

    16) I want to believe it’s somehow connected to the Death prologue we got, but I don’t have enough info to be sure yet.

I’m not sure, maybe it was laced but I don’t think there were any bad intentions.

I think it was just for the Evers.

I think she is hiding something for Edira to discover.

I think Orin removed them, I think they contained something she discovered that he didn’t want others other than Evers to know.

It seems like a very dangerous method.

I don’t know why they are always beastly under their beauty, I think there is another dimension to this. Why are most characters described in this way?

    I want her with Rorik!

I think it has to do with her power.

No, I don’t think he will force her into anything if she isn’t physically ready.

I think he wants to keep her close.

I honestly don’t know but I hope so.

I think he likes her and wants to mark her as his in some way.

    I think its her aunt.

Q – What do you think was in the medicine Vora gave Edira? Was it something to help Edira or do you think that it did something else to Edira?
A – I think Vora has good intentions towards Edira and wants to help and protect her

Q – Do you think Rowena’s warning to Edira to “cure no one” was for the Evers and not just a general warning?
A – It’s not clear enough but since threadmending anyone shortens a threadmenders lifespan, its likely to be both. But also since Rowena has been living with the Ferngoves for a while, so maybe she has some insights into their characters and is referring to the Evers

Q – Edira reads Rowena’s diary from her time at Fernglove. She notes that the writing is stiff and so different from her previous memoirs. Edira believes it is because even though she agreed to help find a cure, she did not do so happily. Do you think this is true or do you think Rowena is hiding something in the memoir for Edira to find?
A – I’m sure that the Evers could also read her diary so she would be a lot more guarded that she usually was.
Q – On the same note, Edia notices that pages are missing from the memoir. Who do you think removed the pages? Why do you think they were removed?
A – I’m not sure, I feel like it may have been an Ever wanting to hide something that Rowena had learned
Q – What do you think of the pruning method to threadmend?
A – It sounds like a plausible theory

Q – We finally learned where Evers came from. Were you right in your guesses?
A – Yes, I had thought that the lady in the prologue was the first of the Evers, which is why they keep looking for Ever jewels

Q – Who do you think the Embergraves are?
A – An Evers family who perhaps does not exist anymore? Do they have connections to death since their name is related to Graves

Q – In Chapter Ten we also learn about Heartbonded Evers. Do you think there are Evers who have abused this connection?
A – I feel that they definitely have abused the connection and taken advantage of their Heartbonds

Q – What do you think of Orin’ transformation? Do you think that by removing the glamour Edira will be able to find out how to work on Ever threads?
A – I think so because the glamour hides the threads from her sight.

Q – We are slowly being introduced to potential romances. What do you think of the romance that seems to be blooming between Edira and Orin?
A – I like it but unfortunately am conditioned not to trust it entirely 😀

Q – When Edria calls to her magic and in response Orin slams his glamour back on. Do you think it is because Orin sensed someone coming, or do you think it has something to do with Edira’s power?
A – I think she was about to see something that Orin didn’t want her to see

Q – Rorik mentions that Orin’s patience is a farce. Do you think this is true? Will he force Edira to threadmend even if she is not physically ready?
A – It seems like it would be out of character but again, I can’t help but feel that he may force her

Q – Why do you think Orin wants Edira at the silver fete? Could it be to show off her powers? Or is it because Orin wants to keep Edira close?
A – I think he wants to show the other Evers that she belongs to him
Q – Edira hopes she will be able to spend a couple of years with her brother before she passes on. Do you think she will get the opportunity?
A – I hope so, since she is willing to give up so much for them

Q – Orin also asks Edira to have a green dress made for the fete. What sort of moves do you think Orin is pulling here?
A – I think that he’s trying to convey something to her about how he sees their relationship, perhaps because he does truly care for her or maybe he wants to manipulate her

Q – What do you think tried to call Edira?
A – I’m not sure, Edira says that she feels that there is a spirit in the house. Could it be Rowena?

I am hoping it was something to help her.

I think it was for everyone, a general warning.

I would like to think her aunt was smart and is hiding something for her to find, clues

I wonder if it could be Orin that did it, scared about what she would find/read that would make her change her mind

It sounds dangerous, a thread cut is a dead one in my opinion

    No, I was way off!

I am really not sure, maybe they were the original thread menders lineage?

Absolutely, it sounds like it could be easily abused

Yes. this was an important and positive step. The glamor must be removed.

It seems genuine, I am rooting for Edira and Orin!

Maybe he was scared , maybe he didn’t want her to see something or someone to see what she was doing?

He might, this seems like his only goal right now and she is the only hope

I believe he wants to keep her close – for his good or hers is still to be seen

Yes, her love for him is so pure, I have to believe it

He is getting her to trust him more and more, maybe fall in love with him?

Maybe an Ever that wants to tell her what is being hidden from her, something about Orin I suspect
