House of Blight – Day Nine

With the heartbond ceremony being planned, Edira experiences a different kind of mood at Fernglove. What do you think of this sudden shift?

Did you expect Mavis to be the one watching Edira and trying to get her attention?

In Mavis’s room, Edira sees a family portrait. What do you think of her observations? Especially those surrounding Rorik?

Mavis had given Edira something. A note from her aunt Rowena. What do you make of the content? Do you think Edira has found Orin’s everjewel at this point?

Who do you think Zeverin Ignatus Embergrave was?

What do you think of the evervow placed on the Fernglove family. Why do you think Orin takes advantage of the vow?

Do you think Edira’s plan will be successful? Will she be able to trick Orin into letting her use his powers? Will Edira be able to release Rorik from his evervow and save her brothers?

Chapter Twenty-Six was the chapter. Filled with reveals, fights, truths and freedom. What do you think of how the chapter played out? Was there anything you predicted? Was there a reveal that surprised you?

Did you think Edira could send the blight into someone else? Do you think Orin got exactly what he deserved? Or should he have gotten more penance?

Do you think that in the next book we will learn more about Rorik’s other family? Do you think the Embergraves will come for Edira? If so, how do you think they will try to steal her?

What do you think of all the Evers that came together to look after Edira while she recovered?

Rorik clearly has feelings for Edira but never seemed to truly act on them. Do you think if he was more upfront about what happened things might’ve been different?

The last chapter of the book seems like the end of a long journey. Until Edira realises with horror that the blight is not gone. What do you think she will have to do to truly rid the Evers, and the world, of the blight?

    1. I think people have been given hope and that they finally believe that they could live, too. On the other hand, they might also be thinking back to Orin’s previous heartbond and how she died. It’s probably a mix of anticipation, hope and dread.
    2. I had a suspicion, but I wasn’t sure.
    3. I think he might not be Orin’s father’s child. He seems to be excluded from the family in a subtle sense – possibly because his mother had an affair and he was the by-product of that affair.
    4. My suspicions regarding Orin have been confirmed! (I love being right). I think she has – her fingers burned with cold when she touched his crest, the same way Mavis showed her it burned.
    5. Rorik’s father possibly – it would make sense that Orin’s father made the key to the curse the one name he never wanted to hear again.
    6. I think that it was both smart and cruel of Orin’s father to put such a vow over his kin – it keeps them in check but it also keeps them in shackles. None of his descendants have ever been able to be or do what they wanted. Orin takes advantage of this since he wants to be the most powerful, and he wants to be in control and have power over his family.
    7. I think that a lot of things could go wrong with her plan, especially if Orin figures out what it is before she can implement it. I also believe Orin to be more clever than he lets on, his cunning is unmatched. She might be able to release Rorik, if she can keep herself from giving in to Orin.
    8. I did predict that Edira would collapse, but also that her anger, need for vengeance and adrenaline would give her powers the boost they needed to save everyone. I was surprised that she hadn’t tried putting Blight into someone else instead of herself earlier…I was also surprised that her plan actually worked and that she heartbonded with Rorik instead. It was also a duh moment, because why didn’t she do that earlier?
    9. I wondered about that and thought that she could. I think he got exactly what he deserved. If he hadn’t died, he would have come back at a later stage to hurt her again or to try the same plan on a new threamender.
    10. Yes – I think they will keep her captive. They might try distracting the others to steal her, or by trapping her with an Evervow or a drugged tincture. Or they might also use her brothers or the Ferngloves (more specifically, Rorik) against her.
    11. I think that they all became momentarily ‘human’ in the wake of Edira’s sacrifice to save them. I also think that she’s grown on them despite their reservations and cruel nature.
    12. Yes, I do believe that. If he had been honest with Edira, she probably would have considered him as a heartbond option first.
    13. She will have to find a way to break Death’s curse on the Evers, otherwise the Blight will never truly disappear.

    – It feels like a false calm before the storm, the ceremony’s weight makes everything feel fragile, tense and wrongly celebratory. There is definitely secrets being kept.

    – Mavis watching Edira was expected as she was always lurking on the edge, and her loyalty to Rowena explains her quiet vigilance.

    – Edira senses Rorik is more trapped than the others as his sadness hints at old regrets and family burdens he never escaped.

    – Rowena’s note confirms Rowena knew how far Orin would go, the note is Rowena’s last breadcrumb. Edira might have Orin’s everjewel, hidden in plain sight.

    – Zeverin is likely an ancient ancestor who bound the ever line with impossible vows or maybe the first to bargain with Death and is possibly related to someone in the Ever family.

    – The Evervow is a cruel chain and Orin uses it to bind loyalty and buy time. He feeds off the family’s inability to break free from the vow.

    – Edira’s plan will partly work because she’s clever but Orin’s old and sly. She’ll win some freedom but at a high cost.

    – It was the payoff chapter there was so many big reveals and Orin’s mask falling, with all of us seeing who he truly is. I suspected some twists, but Edira turning the blight on him? That surprised me.

    – Edira turning the blight on Orin feels too too neat. He deserved more ruin but Edira needed to survive too.

    – Absolutely the Embergraves will want to claim Edira’s gift, maybe bind her as the next vessel for their vows.

    – If Rorik had been honest things might have turned out very differently but guilt made him hesitate too long.

    – Edira will have to face Death again maybe sever the ancient pact completely. It might cost her own life, or her magic, forever.

I think there is a mixture of hope and anticipation. Maybe trying not to get too excited but see this as their ticket to being cured.

It was a surprise in the beginning but in hindsight it makes sense. It was like she had almost been silenced and now we find out why.

I think that Mavis may have had an affair. It also explains why Rorik has such a tense relationship with the rest of the family. There are secrets lurking for sure.

I think that Edira knows where it is for sure. Even subconsciously. I am glad my suspicions of Orin are coming to the surface and this just shows the lengths he will go to to get what he wants. I am surprised that Mavis is on this side of the story though as a character seeing as she is the matriarch of the family.

I think it is someone important to the story who has since died or disappeared. I will need more information before coming to a conclusion.

I think it was a power move and i feel like Orin is greedy and will take advantage of it because he wants more power and wants no one to stand in his way.

I think that she wont be able to trick Orin, I feel like he will catch on as he is quite smart. I do think that she will be able to release Rorik but the question is at what cost. I feel like there is some sort of conflict on the horizon in regards to this situation.

I did predict that Orin’s hidden agenda would come to light to paint him as the bad guy but i did not see Zeverin being Rorik’s father. I also knew there would be some major conflict but didnt think she would be able to save her brothers, i thought they would not have a happy ending. I really enjoyed the chapter though overall and i feel like everything happened at the perfect time and in a good order.

I didnt think she could send it into someone else and Orin definitely got what he deserved. I do not think that was a very nice way to go out even though he didnt suffer for long i think it happened correctly.

I think we will definitely learn more about the Embergraves in the next book but i think it wont only be them that comes after Edira. There are still 3 Starglens left and Jules was set on revenge so i wouldnt be surprised if she makes another appearance again. Either way, there will be people coming for Edira.

I think it was sweet and was a nice way to show how their relationships have grown.

I dont think so. He was under orders from Orin so i dont think that telling her earlier would have changed anything. I feel like it had to happen this way because she only saw Orin’s true colours at the end. If he had told her earlier i feel like it would have pushed her into his arms even more.

It has something to do with the first character and Death, there is definitely a curse and i feel like she will need to break this to rid the world of blight and it may require a sacrifice on her behalf to make that happen.

✨I think it is a happy moment that the Ferngloves don’t often get. They are also hopeful that the heartbond will save them.

✨No but I’m not surprised. She has always been a mystery.

✨I knew when she noticed Rorik’s appearance being so different to his father and siblings that he must not be his father’s legitimate child.

✨I was surprised and sad but it makes sense! It’s why he wouldn’t let her touch his crest mark.

    ✨Rorik’s real father.

✨Orin wants to control his family and everyone around him.

✨Yes but things will probably go wrong and Orin is very smart.

✨I was surprised by a lot of it but mostly Rorik and his willingness to heartbond with Edira to kill his brother. I had been expecting Orin and Edira to end up together and until the last moment everything seemed to work out for them.

✨I didn’t think she could. He definitely got what he deserved. He was willing to kill more threadmenders in the future for his own gain and power. Putting an end to him was for the best.

✨Yes. They will most likely use Rorik (maybe by harming him) to lure her and steal her or force her into a bargain.

✨I think it was the least they could do for treating her so horribly for the months she was there. She saved them all (even if she couldn’t save Mavis) and they were grateful.

✨Yes but I think part of the evervow prevented him.

✨She will have to confront the true source of the blight – perhaps Death – we met in the prologue. She will have to sacrifice a lot more than a few threads.

I would have thought the mood would be more celebratory but it seemed almost sorrowful.

Mavis was such a background character that I would never have thought her important role in the plot.

Her observations made sense, in the way the family interacted, even in the way the other Evers spoke to him.

Yes, Edira definitely found his everjewel or she at least has her suspicions.

He is Rorik’s father – the darkness that surrounds Rorik’s beast form fits now.

It was a way to have control over his family, and now with Orin in charge he uses that to his advantage since no one can ever go against him.

I think Edira will be able to do it. Orin is too power-hungry to think that someone will actually go against him. And while she can’t fight Orin herself, releasing Rorik will save everyone.

Everything was a surprise for me 😂 and I love it, it kept me turning the pages right up to the end.

I didn’t think that she could send the blight into someone else – genius. And the fact that it was into Orin? EPIC, Orin got exactly what he deserved.

I needed the next book as soon as I was done with this one 😭 just to add some drama, I think she will be stolen since she’s now back in her home.

I think it shows their true character and not their character that was ruled by Orin.

I think if he was different at the ball, everything would’ve changed.

I think to get rid of the blight she might have to face Death himself.

Q – With the heartbond ceremony being planned, Edira experiences a different kind of mood at Fernglove. What do you think of this sudden shift?
A – it seems a little happier and more hopeful. Perhaps everyone feels that she could save them after all. Why is Seville angry though? Does she regret not having the same opportunity with Rowena?

Q – Did you expect Mavis to be the one watching Edira and trying to get her attention?
A – No, I didn’t think that she was even conscious of her surroundings

Q – In Mavis’s room, Edira sees a family portrait. What do you think of her observations? Especially those surrounding Rorik?
A – He doesn’t seem to be a part of the family.

Q – Mavis had given Edira something. A note from her aunt Rowena. What do you make of the content? Do you think Edira has found Orin’s everjewel at this point?
A – It’s all so shocking yet explains so much about what has been happening since she was at Fernglove as well as the way the Ferngloves behave. I think that she has.

Q – Who do you think Zeverin Ignatus Embergrave was?
A – I’m not sure, maybe one of the first Evers?

Q – What do you think of the evervow placed on the Fernglove family. Why do you think Orin takes advantage of the vow?
A – I think he uses the evervow to have the family do as he wants them to, even if they don’t want to. His father seems arrogant and selfish, some of which has been passed to Orin apparently.

Q – Do you think Edira’s plan will be successful? Will she be able to trick Orin into letting her use his powers? Will Edira be able to release Rorik from his evervow and save her brothers?
A – I think that she may have to pivot from her initial plan and think quickly but I think that she will be able to released Rorik and save her brothers
Q – Chapter Twenty-Six was the chapter. Filled with reveals, fights, truths and freedom. What do you think of how the chapter played out? Was there anything you predicted? Was there a reveal that surprised you?
A – I didn’t think that she could do that. Orin deserved what he got. I did predict that Edira would heartbond with Rorik.

Q – Did you think Edira could send the blight into someone else? Do you think Orin got exactly what he deserved? Or should he have gotten more penance?
A – I didn’t but it was amazing that she had figured out how to do that. I feel like he should have had gotten more penance for sure

Q – Do you think that in the next book we will learn more about Rorik’s other family? Do you think the Embergraves will come for Edira? If so, how do you think they will try to steal her?
A – I hope that we do get more insight into his family. I’m hoping that they won’t but they may try to manipulate the fact that she is heartbonded to Rorik.

Q – What do you think of all the Evers that came together to look after Edira while she recovered?
A – I think that they were grateful for her saving them and they wanted to help her heal in return.

Q – Rorik clearly has feelings for Edira but never seemed to truly act on them. Do you think if he was more upfront about what happened things might’ve been different?
A – I don’t know if he could because Orin was “courting” her but I think it may have been a bit different if he was able to reveal his feelings sooner.

Q – The last chapter of the book seems like the end of a long journey. Until Edira realises with horror that the blight is not gone. What do you think she will have to do to truly rid the Evers, and the world, of the blight?
A – I think that the cause of the blight is complex and that Death created it to end the Evers. She may have to sacrifice them or herself to save the world

I view it as either anticipation or dread. The people at the manor know the history, and what Edira might be stumbling into.

Not at all, I thought it was the spirit of Lorelai.

    Rorik isn’t a full Fernglove.

I’m actually not sure, at first I thought it may have been a distant relative or maybe the woman at the beginning of the book who made a bargain with death.

Orin is not a good person, he has ulterior motives and uses his family for this. He takes advantage of the bond that was meant to keep them together.

I think she’ll heartbond with Rorik. Since if she does it with Orin she’ll be a fernglove, and won’t be able to harm him.

It was so incredible, and so well written. I anticipated the bond with Rorik, and also predicted the role the beetle played in the beginning.

I didn’t think so but I’m so glad she did that, Orin got exactly what he deserved.

I do think so, I hope she will reconnect with Rorik.

It’s heartwarming, throughout reading the novel all I could think was ‘wow this family is a mess they all hate each other and there’s so much conflict’ only to realise most of it was caused by Orin and they can indeed work together when he’s gone LOL.

No. Edira was clear about her feelings toward Rorik, she felt attraction but his harsh nature and nasty comments, as well as his lifestyle choices would’ve dissuaded her.

I don’t even have any predictions but man am I ready for book two!

I think Edira’s very innocently naive, so she’s being hopeful. And I think everyone else is also being hopeful, probably based on promises Orin has made about what this union could mean.

I didn’t expect Mavis to be the one watching her. I was actually pretty shocked that it was her. I thought she wasn’t strong enough to be able to pull something like that off.

Oh, you could very, very clearly see that Rorik wasn’t related to Orin, and the description explained in very great detail how there are things not similar to the rest of the family.

I was really glad that she got the letter because it gave Edira the opportunity to actually see what an awful, vicious, and manipulative B-word Orin really is.

    Rorik’s dad?

It was a well placed vow that Orin has been able to manipulate. I think he’s obsessed with power and doesn’t like being seen as weak. So he makes the whole family bend to his will because power does awful things to people.

No, something is going to go wrong and he will outsmart her as he is years wiser. And I really hope she releases Rorik from the vow. He deserves freedom. He shouldn’t be subservient to his brother’s will anymore.

That was a massive, explosive chapter. So much happened. I didn’t see the whole house basically crumbling, but I did see her brothers being used as pawns and as another way to manipulate her. I’m glad she bonded with Rorik and gained her power that way. He’s not going to manipulate her like Orin did as I think he really cares about her and not her power

I didn’t expect that she’d be able to transfer the blight. That was such a power move from her… basically overloading him with so much infection that he couldn’t handle it. I didn’t think Orin was going to die though. I was mentally preparing for another book of his scheming.

I absolutely think the Embergraves are going to come for her now. There’ll be more and more Ever families crawling out of the woodwork, especially the ones we haven’t met yet. We’re probably going to see a lot more of the distant houses.

I actually really liked seeing how the other Evers changed their behavior towards her after everything. The girls who were nasty to her became sweet, and their parents changed too. I liked how Seville stepped in. It was just really sweet to see how grateful they were for what Edira did.

Oh yes, if Rorik and Edira had actually talked and been open about their feelings earlier, none of this would’ve gone down the way it did. Orin wouldn’t have been able to manipulate her as easily. He would’ve had to figure out something else.

I think she’s going to have to get rid of the Evers and restore balance. Death is clearly unhappy with how much the scales have tipped in their favour, and those scales need to be righted again.

I think they are hopeful but also, they recall that Orin’s previous heartbond passed so they may think their hope is short-lived.

No, I didn’t but I’m not surprised, it makes sense that Orin is ungovernable.

He’s exclude in a way the others are not.

The aunt was a real G to warn Edira this way, goodness, when I heard about the bonding ceremony I was praying fro intervention because wow, his girl was being an idiot.

    Rorik’s father.

To push his agenda. He is such a clown.

I think she will be able to release Rorik from the vow, I do not think she will bond with Orin.

Not particularly, I knew that the Blight was transferred to the brother deliberately, I mean they went upstairs and randomly screamed, like why did they not come in screaming?

Listen, Orin was a lost cause. I think no other outcome was possible.

I sincerely hope so! Because I have questions.

They cared more for her than themselves and that’s beautiful.

I don’t think so, even if he was under instruction he started this mess and risked her brothers. I don’t think she could easily forgive that, but let’s see if she intervenes for Rorik’s sake.

She will have to reunite with Rorik and bear his child, lol. I am here for that.

It is weird, very sad, like they think she is going to die. Hope but sad?

No, but there has been an air of mystery to her. I think now looking back we see she was purposefully silenced

Maybe she had an affair? Maybe he is not a Fernglove or full Fernglove

Yes I think she has, I was surprised, usually the head of the family will do everything to protect her family.

I think Zeverin Ignatus Embergrave is maybe the ancestor that had something to do with death or even the blight

I think it is cruel. I think he wants to have control and power

I hope so but I think there are just too many variables, too many things can go very wrong ruin her plans.

I was very surprised that she bonded with Rorik, I was also amazed that her plan actually worked.

He got exactly what he deserved, yes I think she could if she had wanted too

I do believe the Embergraves will come for her, I think we will learn more about Rorik

I was really touched actually, it shows they really do care for her and show how much the relationships have changed

He should of been more honest so that she would of considered him earlier

I think the curse will have to be broken by a huge sacrifice and face death
