Previously we’ve been introduced to the Evers in drips and drabs. Out of everyone we have been introduced to, who is your favourite?
What do you think Rorik is trying to signal to Edira? What else could Ywena be doing for Edira?
When Zelyria says that they are all sick did you think she meant only her family, or did she mean all Evers?
What do you think of Edira’s description of blight on the threads of the Evers?
Do you think threadmenders have simply adapted? Or is their ability to not be infected perhaps related to the character of Death we met at the start of the book?
Did you think Rorik and Orin would arrive before Edira was forced to spend too much of her magic?
What does it mean for Orin to have fully revealed himself to Edira? Do you think it could be a manipulation tactic. Or like Edira, we don’t have the full picture yet.
Edira steps in front of Jules to prevent her death. Rorik, seeing something in Edira’s eyes, takes a step back. What do you think Rorik saw? What do you think of his reaction?
At the mention of Edira’s aunt, Orin’s face hardened. Why do you think he is hiding information about Rowena from Edira?
We finally have more information regarding Lorelai. Do you think she did die from blight? What do you make of her being Orin’s heartbonded?
Things remain tense between Rorik and Edira. Do you think it is because of the guilt Rorik feels?
Do you think it is possible that Rorik has known Edira for a lot longer than he lets on?

1. I have to say that I really like Seville’s character. She reminds me of Leanensihde in Iron King.
2. I think Ywena is keeping an eye on her for Rorik’s sake and that he’s spying on her through Ywena to keep her safe.
3. Possibly all the Evers – everyone seems to be hiding something with their glamour.
4. I think it’s a good description of death lingering in someone’s life force.
5. I think threadmenders are definitely related to the story about Death in some way or another.
6. I can’ t see how – how would they even figure out where she is?
7. It could be a manipulation tactic – I still don’t trust Orin. Not all the way. There is definitely a bigger picture that the reader is not yet privy to.
8. Perhaps he saw fear or determination…or a spark of her magic. Perhaps he realised that this human with less power than the Evers had the ability to change him and/or the world. I think this scared him.
9. Maybe Rowena left some clues or warnings for Edira or ‘seduced’ his sister and now he doesn’t want Edira to find out. He might even have been the one to rip out the pages from her notebook.
10. No. I think Orin had something to do with it. He probably wanted her power so that he could be the head of the household and as powerful as possible.
11. Yes and the confusion that Edira feels. If they actually communicated, they’d both feel better.
12. Yes, I think he’s been keeping watch over her and spying on her long before they met. -

✨Seville! I like her unapologetical attitude, and she is does not beat around the bush!
✨That she need to be careful because Ywena is also there to her to protect her. Ywena could also possibly be a spy for Rorik.
✨I knew then that she meant all Evers, especially since the twins asked to heal her. But I was surprised and definitely didn’t see it coming!
✨I think it’s a good description and imagery and we also see how if affects Edira so much as it is might be stronger in the Evers.
✨I think it’s definitely related, as we are nearing the end of the story and I think the woman in the prologue was one of the first threadmenders.
✨I expected Orin, but not Rorik, especially not after what had just happened between them. He didn’t seem to like her that much beyond flirting and only trained her because that is his duty.
✨While Orin has lied to her multiple times now, he still wants to earn her trust and I think he wants them to combine their powers in curing the blight. In a way it was manipulation to earn her trust faster.
✨I think he saw her strength but also her determination to fight for what’s right and remembered her brothers.
✨If he wants to combine their powers, there might be a warning to not to and that’s what he ripped out.
✨My jaw dropped! I believe it which is probably why Orin wants to find a cure because his heartbonded died from it and doesn’t want to lose anyone.
✨I think so but also because Edira also feels guilty for getting him wrong. He has been trying to protect her, not hurt her.
✨I think he has been spying on her with the golden beetles for possibly years.

– Rorik, hands down. He’s unpredictable, morally grey, and feels closer to the raw truth of what it means to be an Ever. He’s unsettling yet oddly sincere you always feel like he knows more than he says, but he’s less careful about hiding it than Orin. He feels like the wildcard who could ruin or save everything.
– Rorik is testing Edira by nudging her to see the truths Orin hides. His cryptic signals push her to question why she’s so essential to them and what the Houses truly want. Ywena, might be more than just a servant or confidant she could be spying for Rorik or leaving Edira subtle help: extra herbs, hidden messages. She feels like a quiet ally working under Orin’s radar.
– She definitely means all Evers, her line feels like an admission that the Ever condition is itself a sickness but they are also physically sick with “blight”.
– It’s such a haunting metaphor, it shows that Evers aren’t just infected bodies that the corruption is woven into their very life force. It makes their existence tragic, because they could be cursed to survive but never heal.
– I don’t think it’s natural adaptation alone. The encounter with Death in the prologue hints that threadmenders are part of an older bargain maybe Death marked them to balance the unnatural existence of Evers.
– Honestly, no the way the stakes were set up, it felt inevitable she’d push herself to the brink. Their late arrival just shows how fragile her position is that they want her power but don’t care enough to protect her before she bleeds herself dry.
– Both manipulation and honesty. Orin revealing himself is a calculated vulnerability, it makes Edira feel special, like she’s seeing something no one else does. But it’s also is a power move now she knows what he really is, so she’s more tied to him than ever. I think we still don’t have the whole truth though.
– Rorik saw a glimpse of her true power or her willingness to sacrifice herself, which is exactly what terrifies him. His step back shows respect or fear that Edira is not just a pawn but someone who could rewrite the entire Ever curse.
– Rowena probably knew things that could unravel Orin’s carefully controlled plans maybe she discovered how to cure Evers or how to destroy them. Orin might be hiding that Rowena’s death wasn’t natural or that Rowena wanted Edira to finish what she started.
-I think Lorelai didn’t just die from the blight she might have been consumed by trying to cure it. Her heartbond with Orin could mean she tried to fix him and paid the price. Her death likely explains why Orin is so desperate and conflicted with Edira.
– Partly guilt, but more than that Rorik seems haunted by how much Edira reminds him of what they’ve lost and what he’s complicit in. He wants to protect her but knows he’s using her, too. His tension is a mix of regret and fear.
– Yes. The hints are too deliberate, the way he studies her, the strange familiarity. Maybe he knew her as a child, or through Rowena. Or maybe he’s seen her in visions or threads or he has been watching her with the golden beetles.

I really enjoy Rorik and Seville. I think Seville is sassy and fun and could be a good friend to Edira.
I think he is trying to get to her to ask more in depth questions. I think he signals her whenever she is on the right path of questioning and i think he also uses Ywena to protect Edira but lettin her give Edira signals as well.
I think she means all the Evers.
I think it is a fitting desciption and it explains the severity and horror of the disease well. It makes it sound scary and dangerous which it is.
It is hard to say, i do maybe lean more towards it having to do something with the first Ever in the book. I still think Threadmenders are someone related to that first character as well as the Evers.
I still think it is a manipulation tactic. We are most definitely not getting the full picture yet.
I think he saw just how determined and strong she really is despite what they think about mortals.
I think there is obviously more to the story about Rowena stay at Fernglove and Orin does not want that information coming to light because it may jeopardize the chances of Edira helping him.
I think that she did die from the blight but that Orin possibly didnt protect her the way he protecting himself and the rest of the family so that she could die faster and he could gain her magic. He is very sly.
I think it is because he does not agree with what Edira is doing and really cares for her. I think he wishes she would leave and save herself.
I think it is possible but i dont know how or why yet.

I actually like Seville. Although we don’t see her as much, whenever she shows up I like that she almost takes Edira under her wing.
Maybe Ywena makes Edira immune to Ever powers.
I think she meant all Evers.
I think it’s fitting, in the end their threads are the same as humans.
It may have something to do with Death – I can’t wait to see the connection.
I knew they would make it before Edira used all her magic, I thought it would be Orin to make a dramatic entrance…not Rorik.
I don’t think that Orin fully revealed himself to Edira – we don’t have the full picture yet. We now know that he has the Blight, but he didn’t show her that part.
I think there’s something more to Edira…
I think her aunt found out something important relating to the Blight.
She died from Blight. That’s interesting because it means that Orin has her power as well.
I think Rorik is trying to hide his true feelings for Edira since he can’t go against Orin.
Oooh that’s an interesting theory! I hope it’s true!!

Rorik for sure. He’s dark, mysterious and morally grey. Love those types of characters.
I think Ywena is a spy for Rorik but she’s also helping Edira under the radar.
I knew straight away that she meant all Evers because there seemed to be emphasis on the word ‘all’.
I don’t really have an opinion on it. Blight seems to rot from the inside out, so I can imagine that would include the threads.
I didn’t even think of Death in this scenario, because it feels like a lifetime ago that I read that scene. I don’t think it’s adaption. There’s definitely a deeper meaning.
I did, but I wasn’t sure how they were going to find her.
Instead of Orin just giving Edira the whole story, he’s showing/ informing her as the story progresses. Which leads me to believe there’s more to the story that he’s not sharing. Why not just give her all the info she needs so that she can do what he needs her to do?
I didn’t think he necessarily saw something in her eyes… I just assumed it was because she was the one that asked and he maybe cares for her…
I don’t know but he’s withholding too much, and it’s giving me bad vibes.
Again, I’m not sure why Orin didn’t say anything or why it’s a big secret. I’m not sure if she died from blight because how did it just speed up after moving in with Orin?
Yes, that’s where the beetle comes in.

Rorik.
Listen, Rorik may seem like a cool hard bro, but he genuinely cares about her safety, I just love him for her.
I think they’re masking more than their appearance!
I think it is absolutely linked to their connection with the lady in the beginning who met death.
I mean would they be the gents we needed if they didn’t???
We don’t have the full picture yet.
I think he saw her humanity and saw the strength of love between siblings. I wouldn’t say he doesn’t get on with his brother but I do think he realised that the way humans love their siblings hits different.
Ofc he is.
Yikes, I don’t think Orin is the sweet guy I thought he was. He seems to have a pattern of aligning himself with powerful women so that he can gain access to their power.
I just need them to communicate better. They are perfect for each other. But Edira is pissing me off a little, lol.
Absolutely! Oke has BEEN spying on her and I legit think his intentions towards her are better than Orin’s!

A – I think that Rorik may the most straight-forward of them allQ – What do you think Rorik is trying to signal to Edira? What else could Ywena be doing for Edira?
A – Maybe she is protecting her as well?Q – When Zelyria says that they are all sick did you think she meant only her family, or did she mean all Evers?
A – I think its her family but it may also refer to all the Evers and their state of mind or perhaps they are all infected to some extent?Q – What do you think of Edira’s description of blight on the threads of the Evers?
A – It sounds insidious like it takes over slowly and completely, making it impossible to separate from their threads and therefore being untreatable.Q – Do you think threadmenders have simply adapted? Or is their ability to not be infected perhaps related to the character of Death we met at the start of the book?
A – I think their power gives them immunity from the blight but it may be related to Death. Since the first Ever trick him and used his weapon against him, he wants to ensure that he has defence against this happening again.Q – Did you think Rorik and Orin would arrive before Edira was forced to spend too much of her magic?
A – I had faith that they would rescue herQ – What does it mean for Orin to have fully revealed himself to Edira? Do you think it could be a manipulation tactic. Or like Edira, we don’t have the full picture yet.
A – I think he’s showing that he is willing to be vulnerable with her, which people usually do with the people that they love and trust. I hope that it is this and he’s not manipulating her but I do feel that there is a bigger picture that we don’t know yet.Q – Edira steps in front of Jules to prevent her death. Rorik, seeing something in Edira’s eyes, takes a step back. What do you think Rorik saw? What do you think of his reaction?
A – I think that he saw that she was determined to save Jules and he didn’t want to take that from her. Edira may also feel guilty that Jules family was killed because of her so didn’t want to be the reason that Jules is killed as well.Q – At the mention of Edira’s aunt, Orin’s face hardened. Why do you think he is hiding information about Rowena from Edira?
A – I think so, that reaction is strange. Why would his face harden when talking about his friend. Did he have a hand in Rowena’s death?Q – We finally have more information regarding Lorelai. Do you think she did die from blight? What do you make of her being Orin’s heartbonded?
A – I think that she did die from the blight. It concerns me that she was Orin’s heartbonded ad she died. Shouldn’t he have been able to do the same for her as he’s doing for Edira’s brothers?Q – Things remain tense between Rorik and Edira. Do you think it is because of the guilt Rorik feels?
A – I think that he didn’t want her seeing him killing others, he wants her to trust him. I think that he cares for her and wants to keep her safeQ – Do you think it is possible that Rorik has known Edira for a lot longer than he lets on?
A – I think he has via the golden beetle -

My favourite male character is Rorik. I like that he’s not PG at all as almost everything out of his mouth is a sexual innuendo taken somewhere, and he seems to have a slightly kinkier side to him. For females, it’s Seville. She has such a personality. She’s basically the queen of sass and I love her.
Yes, I think Rorik is trying to teach her how to be unaffected by the Evers. The breathing technique is part of it, but it’s also about helping her go undetected.
I think he’s been ordered by Orin to keep tabs on her
Given that the flowers didn’t smell, I had a feeling they were all affected by blight, so I wasn’t shocked. It looks like a parasite or a curse, like someone slathered rotten decomposition onto something meant to be beautiful. Just ew.
Yes. I think threadmenders are probably closely related to death. I believe they can cut threads just as much as they can mend them. It’s almost like they control the ties of fate, and fate has always been metaphorically close to death.
I wanted her to at least try. I expected Orin to show up, not Rorik. The fact that they were working together, when they usually don’t seem aligned, was a bit strange. They also got there really fast. I would have preferred that scene to drag out more. In my mind, I’d wanted the ley line disabled and then for it to take them three days to wear Edira down into using her magic.
Yes. Orin is definitely trying to manipulate her. Everything he’s doing has an element of suspicion. He’s only giving her just enough to frame the story the way he wants her to see it.
I think some magic flashed in her eyes and it was unexpected. She’s definitely more than just an average threadmender, and the Evers know something about her powers that she doesn’t. No one wants to tell her the full truth.
I saw it coming. He probably used Lorelai as a power source and is going to try to do the same to Edira. Lorelai might have been one of the first people to die of blight or he had her killed strategically to gain power. People do weird things for power.
Yes. These two really need to communicate. Their tension could come from guilt but I don’t know… something is up with him though.
I do. I think that little gold beetle is spying on her for him

Tammy (@book.barbarian)
Rorik, he has those bad boy vibes I immediately swoon for but also he has a heart under that rough exterior!
My first thought is that he wants to keep her safe and that Ywena is spying on her for him
I think she means all Evers – it is a matter of time for them because they are biologically different
It is actually quite sad and horrifying
I don’t think its adapted, I think it might have something to do with death, maybe? An inherited immunity maybe.
It is hard to say, it could be manipulation but I truly hope not
I think it is out of respect and fear, she is to be feared and she and her power are worth more than all the Evers combined
I still think it is something bad, maybe he wants to hide how she died or what she learnt. It could be something that is detrimental to Evers that he wouldn’t want anyone to know
I think it is why he is so desperate for a cure, I am still confused as to whether it was the blight or not though but maybe that guilt and heartache is motivating him
I hate the miscommunication trope – please just speak to each other!!
Yes, now it seems he has been around her or spying on her for a very long time
