Initially when Edira asked to see her brothers, Rorik said someone else will take her. But when the meal and conversation concluded, Rorik said he would take her to see her brothers. Why do you think he had a change of heart? Or was it a mere pretense to do something else while he was “escorting” Edira?
Do you think Orin’s apology is a part of manipulating Edira?

He is an interesting character. I feel like he comes across as a little bit of a playboy but it is interesting that he seems to be genuinely interested in Edira. I feel like there could be a side to him that contradicts what we know about the Evers and how they behave.
Maybe because they do not want any sort of revolt or anger coming from the families. It is hard to say so early in the story. Perhaps the Evers just dont think it is important as they are immortals and they see informing the families as something trivial.
I do think they were suspicious. But i also think how quickly the onset was is suspicious too. When they brouht Alex in,. he hadnt been feeling well for quite a bit but when the brothers arrived home they were fine and then suddenly they were suffering, it seemed to come on very quickly. I think that a third party was involved with the wounds.
No, i think this was just coincidence. Orin seemed genuinely surprised to see she was a threadmeander. He may have had his original suspicions hence why he remained in the town and then was coming to her house but I do not think it was planned by him.
From what i have gathered of his character, he does seem different from the typical stories of Evers. He is only been kind to Edira so I do believe that he and Rowena were friends.
I think they are young and possibly just trouble makers so it would have been fun for them to pick a fight with her. Also to possibly get a read on Edira and what she is capable of.
I do think she will. I dont think it will be easy and i do think there will be challenges she faces along the way.
I think the manor fits the lifestyle of the immortals but i think there is a more sinister reason it seems so quiet.
It is hard to say because we arent given much information about her aand possibly what she used to often get up to but perhaps she frequented the towns and contracted it from someone there. Perhaps she was tryin to save a mortal lover of hers.
I think at some stae she will be found out but i am not sure if she will still be forced to treat Mavis. We will need to see what happens I guess, and see a bit more character development and see if any family secrets come to light.
I dont think there was much else to it. I think that he could have wanted to just escape the family drama. That aligns with what we know about his character so far.
I dont think so. I genuinely think he wants to have some sort of friendship with Edira and work with her to find the cure for Blight.

✨I like him! His sarcastic attitude is very funny and the dynamic with his family is funny. I’m not sure if I trust him yet though.
✨In case future threadmenders in their family hold it again the Evers.
✨Their wounds seem like they were struck or attacked but we don’t know much about how the blight spreads. The Evers could perhaps have targeted them to strike the deal with Edira.
✨Yes this definitely seems like Edira’s brothers were targeted and she wasn’t as hidden as she thought she was. Although Orin didn’t remember her at first so I’m not sure who is responsible.
✨He doesn’t seem to despise the threadmenders like his cousins so it’s possible.
✨The cousins seem to be very snarky and probably don’t think highly of threadmenders.
✨I think Orin will help her and Edira would do anything to try and save her brothers. She also seems very clever and suspicious of everything the Evers do.
✨The Ferngloves seem like a rich family that doesn’t want much to do with other people and probably want to keep Mavis’ condition quiet so they don’t keep a lot of people around.
✨Perhaps she fell in love with a threadmender and worked with a lot of infected mortals.
✨I think she will do her best and do what’s best for her brothers. Orin has her in a corner and hasn’t given her much choice.
✨Orin doesn’t seem to like Rorik very much and probably wants to get to know Edira more.
✨I do think he feels sorry but he does also want to use her to save his grandmother.

1. He seems genuine with a kind heart (possibly) but there is also a secretive side to him. I don’t believe that he’s being honest with Edira.
2. I don’t think the Ferngloves keep track of the Threadmenders or their families and they don’t care enough to inform them.
3. I think they are suspicious and too well-timed, it’s no coincidence that the Ferngloves need a new Threadmender at the same time that her brothers become sick. I think their clothes were sabotaged or that someone might have attacked them.

9. She must have been around humans who were infected, or she could have been attacked by humans who don’t like Evers. She could also have gotten it from one of her kin (especially if one wanted to sabotage her because they’re tired of her rule)

He’s a flirt (but this may be typical Ever behaviour, as mentioned in the book) and I genuinely think he does care.
This question confuses me a bit… Threadmenders ‘disappear’ so why would anyone tell the family of their passing?
I did think it’s strange that BOTH of them have cuts at the same time and the screaming/ onset was suspicious. It felt more like something had happened and they screamed versus them finding the cuts and screaming. So I’m curious about that as it happened very quickly… I’m wondering if it has something to do with the gold beetle? 🤔
I’m not sure yet as to why he was hanging around and the timing is definitely suspicious, but it seems too easy to suspect he had anything to do with her brothers. He also burst in and seemed really surprised at the fact that she’s a threadmender…
As I mentioned before, I do believe that he is being genuine. So yeah, maybe they were friends. I’m not going to rule it out just yet.
They probably know of the rumours about Evers, so they were messing with her. Considering how long Evers live for, they are probably young and therefore immature, hence the behaviour.
Edira is the FMC so she’s definitely going to survive, but curing the blight is a whole other story. I do think she will though.

I think she’s going to form a bond with Rorik and choose to stay to help out. Don’t ask me why, I’m just getting vibes 😂
No I think it’s pretty much what I said previously, they’re going to form a bond.
I think that even though he may be expressing genuine feelings, there may be some manipulation at play. But I do feel that he was apologising from the heart.

My immediate impression was that he was there on a mission – why did he only seek out Edira’s shop?
I think that people would start seeing Evers in a worse light. Some families might even seek revenge for their loved ones.
It was mentioned previously that they wore durable clothing – even gloves. So when they got cuts on parts that shouldn’t have been exposed was suspicious. Alec’s cut was more believable as it was exposed.
Yes! So many questions went through my mind: how did he know where she lived? Why did he just barge in? Why wasn’t he more shocked towards the Blight? And most importantly, why did he have a proposition ready?
While I think that they might have tolerated each other, we can’t forget that Aunt Rowena was forced into the same predicament as Edira – coincidence? I think not! He clearly knew they were related.
They wanted to make her afraid of them. Orin needs her, but they don’t like that he’s in charge.

I’m leaning towards two options: either this shows that Evers are not immune OR it could mean that Mavis is human – why is Orin controlling her glamor?
I think she will be caught out. She forgets that there has been many threadmenders before her. Orin already has insight to what menders can do.
I think it was a pretense. He warned her as soon as they arrived to avoid everyone from the family. He clearly doesn’t like what’s happening in the Manor.
Yes I do. For someone that forced Edira’s hand during a vulnerable moment, he is too apologetic.

– Orin’s timing was way too convenient. He knew exactly when to appear — he’s pulling strings.
– He probably twists the truth. “Friends” might mean he used her too but I also do have a feeling that they became friends later on.
– The Ferngloves goaded her to test her limits — or break her spirit so she’ll be easier to control and wouldn’t fight.
– Edira is strong, but she’s running out of time — her power might kill her before the blight does.
– I don’t think the manor is empty just because of the time of day — it’s probably because secrets are hidden away, or people are “disappearing.”
– Mavis may have tampered with forbidden magic — or absorbed it by hoarding threadmenders.
– I don’t think Edira will keep up the act for long — the Ferngloves will push until she’s forced to show her true power.
– Rorik’s change of heart could be a trick — maybe he used the promise to keep her compliant or move her somewhere else.
– Orin’s apology is pure manipulation, he’s keeping her off balance so she doubts her instincts. (But I have hope we will like Orin soon).

So, I am listening to this (audiobook) and the way the narrator speaks when she speaks as him is absolutely sending me, lol. She makes him sound like an absolute tool. Your typical attractive guy who is a devil tongue devil. Hopefully, he isn’t actually this way.
Can they even die? I think it’ll be explained to us later on because if they are related to the woman at the start, they should be able to escape death without it actually taking from them.
I honestly think something happened in the bathroom before they were going to bathe. So my mind works wild sometimes and I think Orin came through the window or something and struck them (that’s why the screamed) and then he conveniently showed up at her door with the solution. I think he knew she was a mender and knew he had to force her hand by implicating her brothers in this mess. So, yes, i do think the timing of his arrival is very suspicious.
I’m not sure if he is lying or not, I think only time will reveal the truth. WRT her finding a cure, that remains to be seen.
Honestly, I’m not sure how she got it.
I think she will find a cure and he will let her heal her brothers soon because he will be so enamoured with her he couldn’t refuse her.
I think she now has Rorik’s special attention and that is why he changed his mind.
I don’t think that he is manipulating her, think she might have his special attention, as well.

1. I still think he’s cocky and sure of himself, and definitely flirtatious. I don’t think he’s used to people telling him no. He gives off major “I always get what I want” energy.
2. People are supposed to live longer! Not die prematurely for using their power and it could cause Edira to turn against the family.
3. Honestly, I didn’t think too much about the wounds themselves. I just assumed they got hurt in the mine, like Alec. It felt situational and not suspicious.
4. Yeah, the timing definitely felt strange. Like… how did he know to show up at her house just as she’s dealing with blight? It was a bit too convenient.
5. I do think he’s telling the truth. If she was with the Ferngloves for a while, it makes sense they’d have some kind of acquaintance, maybe even a friendship, given how long she was helping them.
6. I think they just see her as the “help”. Like a puppet they can control. They’re trying to test her boundaries and figure out how far they can push her.
7. I hope she survives long enough to find a cure… otherwise, why am I reading this book? But seriously, it feels like that’ll be a big part of her journey.
8. It could be the time of day, but I also think people are scared. The blight seems to be affecting more people than they’re letting on, and they might be keeping to themselves. But the manor does feel a bit… off.
9. Maybe she was trying to research a cure, or came into contact with a really distinct strain of blight. I’m not totally sure yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she was experimenting with it and accidentally exposed herself.
10. I think she’ll be forced to fulfill his wishes, especially because of the oath and the magic that binds it. There’s probably going to be a loophole she tries to find, but it won’t be easy and it’s probably going to be a big part of the plot.

It is difficult to say but it could be some sort of cover-up.
It seems it was done of purpose, it feels like a set up to get Edira.
Yes very, it all seems like he knew about her and knew that getting her brothers was the only way to get her.
Maybe in his own way of a what a friend is, I think it could be possible they were friends yes.
They just sounds like bullies, entitled and annoying and hoping for some fun.
I hope she does, she loves her brothers and saving them is her motivation.
