In Chapter Twenty-One, Dain challenges Violet and reveals that it was her mother that carved the scars into Xaden’s back. Do you think Dain said this to hurt Violet?

In Chapter Twenty-Three, Violet and her squad are taken for their first round of interrogations. What do you make of Varrish bringing Dain in to assist with the interrogations? And subsequently, Dain’s refusal to participate?
At the end of Chapter Twenty-Four, Violet’s dagger tingles and is able to open the door. Why do you think the dagger can do it?

I don’t think Dain said it to hurt Violet, just as a way to warn her that Xaden isn’t always truthful with her.
I do think the venin dream will be more than just s dream, we just don’t know yet. There’s just too much emphasis on this dream specifically.
I think Varrish is trying to turn people against Violet, to show her he’s stronger by manipulating the people around her, but also, even though Dain was tempted I think it shows his character that he refused once he realized that Violet isn’t consenting to this.
I was wondering if Violet’s dagger doesn’t also have that alloy in it like the daggers that kill the Venin although then why would she need separate daggers? There must be some kind of lesser magic imbued in it.
JACK BARLOWWWWE! FREAKING JACK BARLOWE! Out of all the people to save in this series, Jack was at the BOTTOM of the list. Something is definitely afoot.

• Maybe it’s sort of a sign… a premonition?
• Varrish really is so manipulative and diabolical. I hate him. Dain refusing to participate shocked me! I was surprised for once he did a good thing…
• coz of the magic in it that perhaps comes from the runes or the stone in it. It like worked with the spelled door in some way and unlocked it.
• I did NOT SEE that coming at all. Jack Barlowe being alive had me shook. I feel bad for Nolan tho and why would Varrish go through all of that trouble to revive Barlowe? Just to put another target on Violet’s back, coz it seems excessive…

I think Dain tried to hurt Violet by telling her but also to try enforce why she shouldn’t trust anyone around her.
I definitely feel like she is engaging with the sage in some format but only time will tell.
I was so scared when Dain was initially brought in but actually pleasantly surprised with his refusal to be apart of it.
Chapter 25 was brilliant! Love the cliffhanger we were dealt and can’t wait to see what happens next!

No, I don’t think Dain did this to hurt her. And honestly, I don’t think it would be a surprise to Violet.
I think it’s in line with Varrish, his obsession is insatiable. Dain is Dain so I am not surprised by him being a stickler for the rules.
I don’t understand why he is alive and why it was so necessary for them to mend him, this event will have some significance later on in the book I’m sure. i am curious to see the reason for his come back, lol.

We care what Dain says? I thought we forgot about him…and maybe I am just an unfeeling human but why does it matter who scarred Xaden when he’s already scarred? I wouldn’t trust a word out of Dain’s memory-stealing mouth.
We love a random dream sequence – not but again, I am seeing the foreshadows but not great at catching their meaning. I would die in a riddle challenge….
Again, we care about Dain? Was I to be impressed that he grew a spine and didn’t follow orders? Was that character development? I see his name and I roll my eyes.
There are probably runes on the door or the runes are a key – I feel the runes are important. Runes are magic.
I did not see that coming! But why would they bring Jack back at all? He wasn’t strong, or tied tot he marked ones. This is all just to mess with Violet and I’m not really impressed with leadership at the moment. I’m sure they have more important things to do than mess with a tweny-one-old girl.

No I dont think it was said with the intention to cause hurt. I think it was his way of warning her that Xaden might not be all he seems and that she must be careful.
I’m hoping it is just a PTSD reaction and she’s just having nightmares….I hope it isn’t a sign of things to come.
I think Varrish is even more shallow for trying to use Dain’s abilities for interrogation. I was happy that he refused and he might have earned back some good points in my scorebook.
Her dagger has some magical metal / alloy?

I think Dain is trying everything to get Violet back, but I also thinks he’s jealous of Xaden. Why would he only say that now?
That could be foreshadowing…
I mean that was big of Dain to refuse, but then again he was following the rules.
I was not ready for Chapter 25!!!

I think Dain said this to hurt her, and prove to her that she doesn’t really know Xaden.
I think it’s something else – the venin poison maybe created a connection and they’re trying to break her. They want her power.
Varrish is definitely trying to get information out of Violet. Or, if Dain were to see the venin and wyvern, to state that she’s created the scene in her head and is a traitor. I love that Dain did the right thing! Finally!! Maybe theres a redemption arc somewhere in the future because I don’t think he knows he’s being used.
She has Tyrrish daggers so maybe the enchantment was a Tyrrish one. Maybe it uses the same power from the way stones as they’re also engraved.
Jack Barlowe!!!!!!! I was shook. But also this is a very unnatural thing for Basgaith to do – they don’t save riders. They would have thought Jack was too weak and deserved to die. There’s a reason he was brought back.

I was surprised when Dain said no, he always follows orders and this was a huge stand for him to take.
My jaw fell to the floor, Rebecca is trying to give us a heart attack and succeeded!

I was so shocked at this! I think Dain said this to Violet because he maybe felt like she needed the truth and it was time for her to know. And also to show her that she thought Dain was bad, her mother is actually worse.
That dream was so intense! I think it was some sort of vision.
The interrogations! Oh my goodness. Varrish really used that opportunity to his advantage. He knows that Violet is hiding something and that Dain is the key to finding out. Dain refusing to access her memories shows that he respects Violet, even though he did want to do it.
I think the dagger has some kind of magic, which was very unexpected. It reacted with whatever metal was on the door.
Chapter 25 was a whirlwind! Jack!! I am shocked. Firstly, why did Nolon heal him? I mean this in a tactical kind of why. Varrish knows something about Jack. So much time spent on saving him and none of the others. Secondly, now Violet is even more unsafe.
