Iron Flame Readalong Day Four

Artwork by @evaroseart

The tricky thing is to capture the truth and not just an interpretation. Stories can change depending on who tells them. Iron Flame page 150

What do you make of Jacek getting killed because he requested a report for a border attack that the Navarre command did not want recorded?

Jesinia is now a small part of the revolution whether she knows it or not. What do you make of Jesinia’s findings and the want to find out why the Archives are not as complete as they should be. What do you think Jesinia asked of Violet?

Challenges are back on the map and Sloane is still not trained. Good news is she can somewhat take a punch. Have you also been wondering what Violet will do with Liam’s letters? What do you make of her using it to bribe Sloane? Do you think that if Sloane had been more welcoming to Violet, she would have received her bother’s letters sooner?

Rhi’s family receives a notice to keep strangers out of their homes. Do you think this is Navarre propaganda to keep the Poromish in the hands of the Venin? A two birds one stone sort of situation?

In Chapter Eighteen, Violet and Xaden stumble upon Nolon on their way to the Archives. What do you think Nolon means when he says “[i]t’s hard work, mending a soul. Been at it for months now” pg 175?

Chapter Nineteen sees Violet’s squad return to flight manoeuvres. It is here that Varrish notices once more that Andarna is not there. He makes a move to punish Violet but Tairn does not allow it. Instead, Tairn attacks Solas and puts Varrish in his place. What sort of repercussions do you think this will have on Violet?

Mira has been stationed at Samara. How do you think this will affect the rebellion?

Jacek got killed as part of a cover-up, leadership is arrogant in their belief that there is no way they will be caught out and would rather leave everyone in the dark and are willing to kill for it.

I think Jesinia is true in her pursuit of knowledge, and learning that the archives are incomplete, goes against everything that she’s learned.

If Sloan had been more welcoming of Violet I do think Violet would’ve handed over the letters, as it is, I think Violet is very smart for using them as a bargaining tool.

I don’t think it’s Poromish propaganda, I think they were real but leadership is unwilling to give that information to the future army. They will lose loyalty too fast and have too many people second-guessing them.

I have no clue what Nolan meant there, only that he’s mending a person.

I think Varrish is going to bide his time and take it out on Violet when Tairn isn’t around to have her back.

Mira at Samara will probably cause Xaden to have to keep an extra eye out when dealing with the Griffon Flyers.

It shows the Navarre command will stop at nothing to keep the truth hidden, even if it means killing someone.

I hope Jesinia turns out to be someone who we can trust and that she does not expose Violet in any way.

Yes if Sloan had been more receptive, she would definitely have been given Liam’s letters and not used as a bargaining chip.

Nolan is certainly raising a lot of questions. Why is he so vague, and what has he been doing all this time that is wearing him out so much?
    Mending a soul?……interesting…….

I loved the brutality of Tairn and how he put Solas and Varrish in their places! However I do worry for how Violet will pay the price for this.

    • It’s absolutely ridiculous and sinister

    • Maybe some sort of information? And I love that she’s so brave and wanting to play a part for the betterment of good. Though I’m a bit concerned for her safety.

    • not sure and that’s smart of Violet to maybe help it to motivate Sloane. I do think so that Violet would have given it to her sooner and in a better manner if Sloane wasn’t being so hard on her.

    • Yes

    • I don’t know, something is definitely afoot tho there

    • First of all I STAN TAIRN. That move he pulled was epic. Varrish and Solas will definitely try to take revenge.

    • We shall see what transpires.

I like that we now have a scribe part of the revolution because I feel like we may finally get an accurate portrayal of the events to come in the future. I think Jesinia requested Violet’s book on folklore.

I think Violet’s tactic of bribing her to train in order to receive a letter is a brilliant way to motivate her to get stronger and stay alive. If Sloane had been more forthcoming I believe she would have already received the letters.

Nolan has to be working on trying to mend someone who is venin to see if it can possibly be reversed.

The moment Tairn put him in his place I was over the moon!!! However, I am quite stressed about the possible repercussion’s of his actions.

This tells me there is much more to the war that we do not know about and that leadership is hiding info from their juniors.
Overall it tells us throughout time that secrets are being hidden so that the population knows nothing of venin etc and the wars they could bring. Jesina asks for more knowledge of Violet as she knows quite a bit about venin and wyvern.
Yes I did wonder since its against their customs. If Sloane had been more welcoming their relationship overall would have been very different.
Yes the notice definitely serves more than one purpose especially because its region bound.
I think Nolan is troubled by his involvements with Varrish and the like.
That scene was bad ass but it will definitely make her more of a target.
Mira being at Samara will cause more tension.

Definitely, this is a part of their propaganda. But I don’t think it’s a secret they can keep for long.

I have no idea whose soul he might be trying to mend and why it’s so important to mend this particular soul.

I don’t think this put Violet in a better position but I also don’t think it puts her in a worse situation. Varrish has an agenda and that existed before this incident and it will continue after it.

I think Mira will join the rebellion, all three siblings reunited under the rebellion banner.

OOOHHHHH, he was checking on his family. Nothing fuels a revolution more than LIES FROM THE GOVERNMENT. That’s clever. I like that – it’s a great way to hint to the greater population that something is going on without letting them know that something is going on.

Also, Violet’s dad said that scribes have power – and now they have the most powerful weapon of all accidentally joining the revolution. Welcome, Jesinia. No one is happy here. I wonder what she couldn’t asked Violet tho – I think training.

It is very clever of Violet to use Liam’s letters to bribe Sloane. It would absolutely work on me but I still feel like someone is lying to her and she doesn’t have all the information.

I hate propaganda – not because of anything else but because I am a dummy reader. I am not here for politics. Only vibes – I thought it was normal not to invite strangers in your home?

Also, I am clearly not a shadow-wielder because I’m missing this foreshadowing. Is he talking about himself? Man is tired and tied to Varrish – my soul would be tired too, bro.

This man is making LIVID. Why does he think he has any say or control over if Andarna wants to come or not. Why doesn’t his dragon just say – she’s not available if all dragons share a brain-link?

I think Mira being in the same place as Xaden does not bode well for her. I think the leadership will force Violet or even the general to choose IF she does know about the venin.

Overall thoughts: I hate everyone here. Please stop getting in the way of my ship and my revolution. And please hurt humans instead of dragons – thank you.

That just shows what they’re willing to do to keep things on the low.

Jesina is doing what probably any scibe would do if they find out knowledge is missing, especially since their Archives are supposed to be the most up-to-date.

I think if Sloane wasn’t standoff-ish towards Violet then she would’ve gotten the letters earlier. But I think that by Violet saving the letters will change their dynamic.

I now know why Nolon said that…

I think that Varrish will be making her life a nightmare any chance he gets.

I think Jacek getting killed raises a major red flag and shows that the Navarre command has eyes and ears everywhere. Violet is on thin ice since she keeps on requesting books.

I have always liked Jesinia but I don’t know if she might betray Violet, at some point or another. I am glad that Violet has her and that Jesinia is starting to ask questions, but still.

I think Violet is using the letters in a smart way. It’s more like motivation really. This pushes Sloane to try harder since she still has a long way to go.

The notice Rhi receives made me nervous and at this point I’m not sure what the agenda really is, but I know it’s sinister.

The quote from Nolon is more meant in the mental health kind of way, atleast that’s how I feel. It’s working on that inner self that’s having a hard time getting through things and been broken by situations. Healing those inner wounds.

First off, that scene with Varrish and Tairn was intense! I think that Varrish will be cruel towards Violet in different ways. If he can’t get her to obey orders, he’ll sabotage her or perhaps cut her time with Xaden.

Mira Mira Mira…while I’m glad to see her, I think her being stationed at Samara will eventually lead her to the rebellion. Who knows what she’ll find out.

    I love this artwork 😍

I think he may have requested something that shouldn’t be known, like reports from outposts or maybe blue fire.

Everyone is taught that the most power is in their knowledge – power of the scribes. If there are things missing, they’re weak. Or truth is being hidden and twisted and scribes like facts. I think she’ll either ask for her folklore book or for Violets secrets.

Violet is a genius using Liams letters to bribe Sloane. It’s incentive to stay alive another week, and get trained to be better with Imogen. I think she would have gotten them earlier but I also think that the letters will help Sloane see that Violet was Liam’s friend and she saved him.

This propaganda actually made me cry. It definitely is a way of keeping the truth from being freed. If any Poromish were taken in and told them what they had seen, it would jeopardise everything.

I’m not sure what Nolan meant, maybe that he’s trying to mend his own soul from being drained with whatever he’s up to.

First of all, YASSSSS TAIRN! Eat him! 😂 secondly, it definitely puts a bigger target on Violet. The best way to punish Tairn is to hurt her.

I think Mira is going to find out at some point and maybe even accuse Violet of being a rebel. Or she might even get Xaden hurt or captured.

It makes me think that the people in power are beyond dangerous – they are dangerous for the people they are supposed to protect.

Yes I think Violet wanted to give her his letters immediately. But I understand why Violet is doing it this way. I feel so sorry for Sloane, my heart breaks every time I think of Liam!

Yes I do, I think the propaganda is deeper than what we are allowed to see.

If he literally meant mending a soul that really worries me – the first time I read that I didn’t see its importance but now I do and its a wild statement to be honest.

Violet hates to see anyone being punished for her I think the whole situation is going to have a terrible outcome one way or another.

I hope Xaden will be able to look after her.
