Because love, at its root, is hope. Hope for tomorrow. Iron Flame page 16
Violet survived her first, and probably not last, Venin attack. After being poisoned by the Venin student’s blade, Violet was taken to the only place Xaden knew someone could help her. Aretia is the home of the rebellion, old and new. Iron Flame starts off on the slow side. We start with Violet and Brennan. It is not long after this quick introduction to the book that we are thrown into politics. The Assembly has been called. What do you make of their hostility towards Violet?
In Chapter Two, we learn that wardstones can be made. Do you think the wardstone will play a bigger role in Iron Flame or is it something we will only get to see more in Onyx Storm? Why do you think Brennan is so quick to shut down Violet’s idea regarding the wardstone?
Towards the end of Fourth Wing, we learned that Andarna has changed. In Chapter Two of Iron Flame, we get more details on what has exactly changed. Are you excited to see Andarna in all her teenage glory?
Chapter Three starts with the decision to return to Basgiath and Chapter Four ends with Violet being back with her squad at the War College. What do you make of Colonel Aetos’ attempt at getting rid of the marked riders? Do you think you would have been able to convince the General of the slight deviation from the truth?
Violet makes it abundantly clear to Dain that he is to not come close to her every again. Do you think he will listen to her? Do you think Violet will give him another chance or is this the end of their relationship?
It seems like the second year at Basgiath War College is going to be an interesting one. Xaden is off to the front lines and Violet is only able to leave classes for two days every two weeks. In addition to that it seems the new vice-commandant is going to cause trouble.
What are your thoughts of the first five chapters of Iron Flame?

I can understand their hesitance to trust her simply due to the fact that Dain was using her to steal knowledge without her even realising and now they are worried that it will happen again and jeapordise their rebellion.
I think the wardstones will come into play towards the end of the book if not the beginning of Onyx Storm. Brennan is quick to shut it down because he just got his sister back and he fears he will lose her again.
I think Colonel Aetos is actually a coward because he couldn’t be face them himself and try to get rid of them, he tried to get the wyvern and venin to do it for him. I think I would have been able to convince her, the same way Violet and Xaden did.
I think Dain will continuously try but I feel that this may indeed be the end of their friendship as he completely abused his signet.
I think the first five chapters actually gave us so much new information, you just had to read a little in between the lines to try and work out what it was.

I understand their hostility towards Violet. Being a Sorrengial can make them doubt in trusting her and she’s also an outsider who might ruin everything they planned.
I think we’ll get to see more of the wardstones, or atleast I hope so since I’m curious to find out more. Perhaps Violet was on to something and Brennan stopped her because he doesn’t want others to hear.
Andarna! The way she changed! A real teenager with an attitude 🙂 I can’t wait to see how she develops.
Aetos shouldn’t be trusted. The attempt was awful and caused so much harm, but they came back and showed Aetos he won’t get rid of them that easy. I would have been too nervous to even talk, let alone convince the general.
I am glad that she told Dain off and that Xaden blatantly said what he said. The message is now clear. Hopefully he’ll listen.
The first five chapters were informative and we got a quick catch up of the other second years. I liked it, but I feel we’re in for a lot more. Something big is coming.

I get why they were hostile towards her. They’re have too much at stake and they don’t know Violet – even if she is Brennan’s sister.
I hope we get to see the wardstones come into play soon.
I can’t wait to see how Andarna develops in this book! I hope we get to see more of her.
I don’t think he thought they would survive so he had to scramble for a way to take the attention off of him. I don’t think I would be able to convince the General!
This is Dain we are talking about, I don’t think he will leave her alone especially now that they outed his father. I think (and hope) that Violet is done with him.
My first thoughts are that this book wastes no time! And I love that!

Everyone is always hostile towards Violet, it’s been proven time and time again that most people see her for her name, Sorrengail, and not who she is at her core.
I definitely feel like wardstones will play a big role, there is no way Rebecca is just throwing this information in there for nothing. Brennan is shutting the idea down because it’s not within reach, he wants the quickest easiest route.
I’m ready for a sassy teenage Andarna! What we’ve already seen is next level.
I’m such a bad liar, who knows if I would be able to convince her, but Aetos is becoming a major villain in this story for sure.
I think Dain will listen to her because at his core he’s not a bad guy, he just is stuck in his view of the world. I think he will work towards reconciling with Violet.
I’m overall just so excited to jump into this story, these first 5 chepaters really set us up with so many questions to be answered.

Obviously, we as the readers know Violet can be trusted (well, up to now she has given no reason not to be). But their reasoning for not trusting her is valid, and their hostility is only natural, especially considering her ties to General Sorrengail and what that might mean for her allegiance/loyalty.
Not sure what to think about the wardstone, but it was brought up, so it must play some kind of role – if not now then at a later stage. I’m sure Brennan is just being protective toward Violet – aren’t all older brothers?
Andarna is already to spicy, I can’t wait to see more of it – and I wonder if another round of “accelerated growth” is going to be part of this book too. She was a cute yound dragon, but teenage Andarna is hilarious. I hope that doesn’t cause issues though.
That man is scrambling to save his behind – he knows he’s messed up and the squad now knows what’s out there. I don’t think he would have been able to sway the General, she’s a lot smarter than that (I hope).
I’m sure Dain will try again – doubtful someone like him will stay away – especially if he believes so deeply about their cause and beliefs against the Marked riders. I doubt Violet will give him another chance, unless he can without a doubt prove himself otherwise.
So far – loving how the first five chapters gave us some good background and laid the path for what’s to come. I’m thinking this is going to be very political – and I cannot see where it’s going to go!

I understand why people are apprehensive about Violet, especially as she is General Sorrengail’s daughter. That being said, she has proved her loyalty.
I’m interested to know more about these wardstones and I hope that will be answered in Iron Flame.
A teenage Andarna is going to be hilarious with Tairn and Sgael! I can’t wait to see her antics
Col Aetos is a weasel and so is Dain! I dislike them immensely and I hope Violet and co get a chance for revenge.
I think the ambush at Resson was the final straw as Violet realised Dain’s true colours. I am hoping that she will not forgive him and that this marks the end of their friendship.I am loving this book so far and I cannot to read further.

I absolutely love being back in this world. I have a feeling that Naolin might not actually be dead, but maybe turned into a Venin. I’m saying this because Tairn refuses to speak about him and Brennan said he listened everything to save him. I also laughed at everyone’s reaction to Xaden and the team not being dead. Graduation is kinda a let down, but hey just another day of not dying in Basgaith I guess.

• I think their fear is unwarranted considering Violet aided them in the battle and has kept every secret told to her. Though their concern of Dain reading her memories is a little valid since she cant block him out at the moment.
• I think it will come into play in this book briefly but perhaps be talked about more in Onxy Storm…
• I’m so excited to see what signet she will grant Violet and also for us to get to know Andarna better in her more fierce personality.
• I absolutely despise these stupid Aetos men. I want dragons to eat Colonel Aetos.
He really is a vile man that needs to chill tf out with his villain era. Idk I’m not really good at lying tbh.• Dain is like a persistent annoying disease that just won’t piss off. So I know he’ll keep coming back, unfortunately.
I hope Violet writes him off completely and I believe she has written him off at least 99%• A lot of questions needs to be ironed out but I’m enjoying the calmer start to it all. I truly miss Liam as his death made me sob. I’m concerned for the others and what faith their lives will hold. I’m also eager for Xaden & Violet to rekindle their romance. Lots more to come and transpire for sure!

The hostility against Violet is warranted but shouldn’t they give her chance first before they decide to be hostile towards her just cause she’s a Sorrengail
The wardstones will definitely play a major role
And Andarna being a spunky teenager is what we need
Aetos is getting on my nerves, but his not a bad guy I just hope he redeems himself, cause it doesn’t look great for him
And the first five chapters were interesting it sets up the story on how it will be

I think the hositility is understandable given the history of the Sorrengails and the marked ones. Violet has not yet proven herself to them in the way she has to Xaden so they do not know her yet. She needs to prove herself.
I think we will only get more of the wardstones in Onyx Storm because onyx is a type of stone, the title eludes to this. Brennan knows much more than he lets on and it causes tension between him, Violet and Xaden.
I love love teenage Andarna, her sass is next level.
Colonel Aetos definitely has his own agenda and I am sure he is trying to con General Sorrengail into his plans. No, you cannot fool that woman.
Dain never listens so no! It will be the end of their relationship.
The first five chapters got the book off to a good start I was instantly hooked. -

I hope it’s the end of the relationship but I am 100% sure it isn’t. Wow, am I really ready for another rollercoaster?? Gosh, I am not sure what to feel about this book because the way fourth wing ended… I was NOT ready. Super grateful for my iron squad, because… what a trip.

The Wardstones, lore and history will play a huge part going forward in my opinion.
He shuts her down because that knowledge was lost and they don’t have the time to chase fantasies.
The teenage Andarna is hilarious!
Dain was responsible for those murders, she will never forgive him and I don’t blame her.
It’s just as addictive as Fourth Wing! Reading it for the second time is bringing back so many memories

I don’t blame the Assembly for not trusting Violet—she is the General’s daughter, after all—but it makes me all the more curious about how they treated Brennan. Were they just as hostile and untrustworthy or is Violet just special? But also, I don’t fully understand why they don’t trust her when she hasn’t done anything to earn or lose their trust yet. Shouldn’t her battle with the marked ones at Resson have counted for something? I think they’re being unreasonable. They could also be testing her.
I think the wardstones are not as elusive as one might think. My guess is that they’re hidden in the runes or something OR they’re not powerful at all and its all a trick. Bwahahahaha. Brennan isn’t being fair towards his sister at all – she’s smarter than he realizes and he either knows that or he’s stuck thinking of her as his baby sister.
Respectfully, Colonel Aetos and Varrish can get eaten by Tairn. I also think Dain is pretending to not know what’s going on OR he’s very bad at using his signet. He’s also bad at asking the wrong questions. I can’t believe he’s Wingleader and not Bodhi—nepotism at its finest. Violet let him off easy.
My overall thoughts for the first five chapters are: It might just be me, but I don’t understand Violet’s anger towards Xaden. Maybe it’s just me and I’m incredibly forgiving. Violet still has a lot of emotional growing to do and honestly, there are more important things to deal with right now and I feel that her feelings need to take a back seat. THERE’S A WAR COMING, GIRL. I’m excited for Andarna’s teenage antics but I’m upset she’s not gold anymore.

I think that Violet is associated with her mom here too and is yet to prove her loyalty. Also her being friends with Dain doesn’t help her reputation here.
I think wardstones might come more into play at the end of the book. Brennan is definitely not telling her as much as he knows but I also think he’s diverting her from talking to someone who can extend wardstones about it (Mira).
Yesss I can’t wait to see teen Andarna and to eventually find out what signet she gives Violet!
I think the General is probably a sucker for ambition and proving oneself as strong and not weak so an argument could be made from that. The way he tried to get rid of them was cowardly.
I think Dain might keep trying since they’ve been friends for years. I do think that he doesn’t know what is going on beyond the wards and maybe if Violet finds that out, and Dain has proven himself as a worthy character, she might forgive him.
The first 5 chapters are setting up what seems like an intense book! I’m so excited to read more! Also I love the artwork!
