Chapter Eleven we see violet blissful from receiving a letter from Xaden. She loves that it isn’t about the current politics or the basic going ons at his post. It’s about him. Did anyone else find this cute? He is actually listening to what Violet wants (even if it is a bit later than expected). What is something you would write in a letter to Violet?
In the same chapter, we also see a student being pulled away from the college. Jesinia says it’s because she recorded a request from the rider. What do you think the rider requested?
What do you make of Varrish’s request in Chapter Twelve? Do you think Violet will risk Andarna or will she risk Varrish’s punishment?
Who do you think is Catriona?
What do you make of the knowledge that the other riders from Resson are also being targeted?
After a week Violet is allowed her leave to go to Samara. She gets searched before she leaves but swiftly arrives at the outpost. They don’t search Tairn, do you think this will change?
Do you think it’s cruel for Lieutenant Colonel Degrensi to force riders to fight for passes?
At the end of Chapter Thirteen, Violet is kidnapped. In Chapter Fourteen she realises that it is part of the RSC course that second years receive. Do you think that she will complete the first round of interrogation before Sgaeyl arrives?
In the RSC exercise, the riders are disconnected from their dragons. They also learn there are two other teams out there. Each with their own set of dragons that will be hunting the Fourth and Second wing. What do you make of the unbonded’s joining in on the hunt?
What do you think is the reason Baide didn’t try to harm Violet?

Xaden is pulling out all the romantic stops in this book. Book one was for the grand romantic gestures, book two is for nurturing their connection. I adore it! If I were him I probably would’ve caved and started spilling secrets.
The rider must’ve requested something to do with the ongoing war, it must be close enough to the truth that’s being hidden for them to take such a drastic step.
Violet would die rather than risk Andarna, we’ve already seen her risk everything in book one and I don’t think it’ll change now especially since she has a special connection to her now.
Catriona must be an ex of Xaden’s. I see some jealousy in Vi’s future.
The fact that the other Resson riders are being targeted to me shows that Colonel Aetos is out to kill them in order to keep his secrets.
I do think eventually they might insist on searching Tairn, but also would they even be able to? Tairn could refuse, Dragons don’t work for humans.
Lieutenant Colonel Degrensi does seem to be cruel, but in the same breath I wonder if it isn’t a tactic to keep spirits up. Everyone is entertained and know they can work towards getting a pass.
I don’t think so, there just isn’t enough time.
I found it a bit odd that the unbonded’s are joining in on the hunt, maybe it’s a way to make sure the human’s are more prepared for Wyvern attacks? Overall I’m not sure what to make of it.
I think Baide didn’t harm Violet purely because Tairn was name dropped.

I love how romantic Xaden is being by writing letters to Violet. Showing his more vulnerable side and opening up will help heal their estrangement.
I think the rider must have requested something above his pay grade that could have to do with the ongoing war.
Varrish villian era needs to come to an abrupt halt very soon! His hatred towards Violet is only going to get worse and i believe he will make her punishment horrendous.
I think Cat is Xaden’s ex girlfriend and this is only going to open up a new can of worms and cause more of a drift between them if this character is introduced.
I don’t think they think the dragons will be able to carry anything on them but I feel like this may change in the future. However, they may be burned in the process.
I think Xaden having to compete for a pass is absolutely brutal but just reinforces how strong these riders have to be both mentally and physically.
I don’t think Violet will make it before Xaden arrives, which is frustrating to say the least. Putting the bonded and unbounded riders together is a bad idea, as only wreckage can ensue now.

Not Xaden being all cutesy in Iron Flame! If I were him I would give Violet what she wants and tell her everything – in a way that only she can unscramble because you never know who’s reading the letters!
Maybe the Rider was thinking along the same lines as Violet. Or maybe it was about something that they wanted to stay hidden.
Varrish plays a dangerous game by giving orders to a dragon through a Rider.
I don’t think anyone would be brave enough to search Tairn. However, I do think this will change.
It is cruel. They should all be given passes equally.
I think that’s just horrible. First they are separated from their dragons and they have to look out for unbondeds? That just made an impossible situation worse.

• I literally blushed at that part, its very romantic of Xaden.
Dear Violet,
Please keep your romantic relationship with Xaden intact and strong always
Sincerely, your biggest shipper.
P.S. keep slaying it,my fellow chronic illness girly• A book/tome that maybe was forbidden?
• Violet cares about the little dragon immensely, seems like she’d risk the punishment. Varrish is simply being a dramatic a-hole. Tairn needs to eat him.
• Xaden’s ex?
• Just because they (the bad guys) didn’t succeed in killing them, they are trying now to safeguard their twisted secrets.
• I think they will start to search Tairn soon and I’m nervous for when that’ll happen…
• I do, why can’t they just make one thing easy for the riders at least? Its not too much to ask for.
• Not sure, maybe
• As always things have to go extra deadly with raised stakes in this series. Let’s see what happens.
• Because of Tairn.

I nearly melted when Xaden wrote Violet a letter! He is opening up and showing a more vulnerable side of himself. Since the letters are monitored, he cannot tell Violet everything she wants to know, but maybe he can give her some clues in a cryptic way that only she would understand.
The rider that got hauled away definitely came too close for leadership’s comfort and he got punished for it. He probably requestes a book that has information that could shed some light on the current war that is going on.
Violet would put herself on the line rather than expose Andarna in any way. She will take what ever punishment Varrish dishes out to protect Andarna.
Hmm….who indeed is Catriona?? Sounds like an old flame of Xadens…. Queue the jealousy.
It is extremely suspicious that all those who were present at Resson are now being target. Someone clearly is trying to take them out to silence them.
I really hope they do not search Tairn, or else everyone and everything will be exposed. Although if they do try, I don’t think Tairn will allow them to get anywhere near him.
Fighting for passes…. Being cruel to be kind? The morale at the fighting ring seemed quite “happy” and it gave everyone something to cheer for, in a macabre way. I think it does form some kind of camaraderie between the squad.
If you want something, you must earn it.My heart nearly stopped when they all had bags thrown over their heads and ambushed. I don’t think they will make it out in time to see Sgaeyl and Xaden.

It was very romantic yes. This is a difficult question… There is so much one could actually say. But I would probably go with life stories that truly defined who I am.
Something about the recent battles. It seems very controversial and very hush hush.
Violet would never do anything to jeapordise her dragons. I think Varrish is obsessed…
I think Catronia must be Xaden’s first love. Just based on the vibes i got.
This tells me that someone knows more than they should and it using it as a leverage point to gain more power for themselves.
It will definitely change especially if he acts against Solas.
No it is not right but it will motivate the cadets and infantry to work harder.
No the challenge seems very challenging and they are not prepared adequately.
Unbondeds joining has been done to create more drama.
Baide respects Violet. -

I understand that the leadership thinks it’s wise to keep information away from Cadets but I don’t think okes should die because of their curiosity. Nay, she wouldn’t risk Andarna for anyone. I think it’s appropriate for them to fight for passes, its up their alley lol.

I love the letter thing. I want all the title chapters just to be letters – I don’t care about the Book of Brennan or any reference text. I want only letters. Xaden is being super duper sweet to her. I would not have been. THERE IS A WAR COMING. Also, it is so random and weird that someone was executed over text – was he a marked one? I can’t remember, because if he was then I get it but a random student? Hmmmm…that must’ve been some text but what a way to rope Jesinia in.
I think Varrish is just being friggin’ ridiculous and why doesn’t Violent just say that Andarna doesn’t want too? I thought dragons didn’t bow to anyone. Why does Varrish think he’s special? Surely this is an abuse of power?
I don’t think Violet should care who Catriona is – again, THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS. If anything, it shows Violet’s age.
I think it’s cool that the soldiers have to fight for passes. It probably builds camaraderie more than anything and probably earned Xaden some respect amongst older riders/infantry and unlikely friendships. And its motivation to work harder.
Nothing is boiling my blood more than people getting in the way of my ship. I understand why they’re doing it but because of Fourth Wing, I guess I was under the impression that it was dangerous to separate mated dragons for too long but I guess dragons lose to war as well? IDK, it’s annoying to me and I have screamed in many a pillow.
I guess I need to understand the relationship between riders and dragons more because I thought it was scared and here leadership is – screwing with a scared bond that can kill both of them if either one dies, so wouldn’t muting the bond essentially be the same thing? Also, I really liked that we got to see other factions/ departments of the military but didn’t care enough when one of them died. RIP, I guess.
I thought Baide was dead – guess he didn’t like Jack either.
Overall thoughts: I for one can’t understand why Violet just doesn’t forgive Xaden already or try to understand that he has to keep secrets to keep everyone safe. She’s being selfish and I feel that she was unreasonable and I will die on this hill. Also, I LIIIIIIVVVEEEE that we got tow rok with other factions of the military because it expands the world-building in a unique way and offered a different perspective of the war that no one knows is coming. Also, Varrish can burn.

Firstly, this artwork is amazing! If I wasn’t reading Iron Flame, this would have totally convinced me to read it.
I love that he writes her a letter. It’s thoughtful and cute. I would write to her that she’s an inspiration and that she should keep up the good work. And to be careful of who she trusts.
The request had me very curious. It’s definitely something that is either keep under wraps or illegal. So much so that they silenced this student.
Violet will rather risk Varrish’s punishment. I don’t see that she’ll ever betray her dragons. Varrish is so selfish and cruel.
Catriona, I have no idea. An ex girlfriend maybe? I can only think of that, but I really hope I’m wrong.
The fact that the other riders at Resson are also being targeted does make me wonder. I feel one person is in control of this and is trying to cut ends since some of the riders are close to the truth.
I am so glad they didn’t Tairn. I doubt if he’ll allow them to search him since dragons don’t take orders. They might try, but we all know how that will end.
I think Lieutenant Colonel Degrensi uses this as an exercise in some way, to build that stamina and will to keep on fighting for something that you want. Even if it’s something small as a pass.
That RSC course seems intense! I don’t think she’ll complete the first round in time. Especially since they are all new to this and the conditions does seem to be unexpected.
The entire RSC exercise is nerve wracking. Those unbonded adds another level of danger. Now they have to look over their shoulder at every turn and crevice.
About Baide, I have no idea. At this point my theories are wrong, so I’m not trusting anyone.😅

I love that Xaden is letting Violet in more to who he is and he’s trying to get her to know him more. He’s going about it the right way! I think by revealing who he is and his nature, over time Violet will trust that what he can tell and can’t tell has a good reason about (though I can understand why Violet wants all the truth).
The rider must have requested sensitive information towards the war – maybe about wards or blue flames
Violet would die before letting harm come to Andarna – as we witnessed during Threshing. Varrish most likely knows this and is trying to either gain control over dragons/show his power to Tairn or as an excuse to get Violet killed
Catriona is probably an ex of Xadens (though we as the reader know that for him, no one can compare to Violet)
The others from Resson are being targeted because Colonel Aetos wants secrets to die with those who hold them
I don’t think anyone is brave enough to challenge a dragon like Tairn for that.
I think it is cruel – it should be equal. But at the same time, this weeds out the weak (who will keep losing their passes) while adding more motivation at keeping fit and practised and keeping the others entertained.
I don’t think so, half a day is still a lot and they’ve got to try be cooperative
I find it odd there are unbondeds joining – maybe it’s to help get them some practice with humans before Threshing or for the infantry to get used to dragons (and wyvern)
Tairn. Big, scary, boss dragon will definitely make him suffer first before he lets the connection kill him (if it did)

Firstly this artwork is beautiful!
Xaden just makes me swoon! I would tell her to keep being brave and that she has an important role to play in this world! And to just forgive Xaden and get over it lol
I wasn’t sure , but it must of been something taboo.
I don’t think she will risk Andarna but I hate Varrish just as much as Jack bloody Barlowe!
I think Tairn wouldn’t let them search him – they will be Sunday roast!
Degrensi is terrible for doing that.
With unbonded joining the hunt, that made me worried – I think maybe Baide was scared?
