Iron Flame Readalong Day Two

The first year is when some of us lose our lives… The second year is when the rest of us lose our humanity. – Iron Flame Page 93

Chapter Six continues the conversation between Violet, Xaden and Colonel Aetos. In this chapter Colonel Aetos threatens Violet and her sister. What do you make of this threat. Do you think Violet will keep Brennan a secret?

It is also in Chapter Six that we learn the new leadership order. Dain is the wingleader and Rhiannon has been given the leadership role of squad leader. What do you think of this?

Second year is different from the first. In Chapter Seven, second years are introduced to a new class dedicated to surviving. There is mention of an interrogation, do you think Colonel Aetos and the others in leadership will abuse this?

And just like that the next round of first years are about to attempt crossing the parapet. What do you think of the King’s third son making an attempt at joining the Riders Quadrant? Do you think this will impact anything to come?

Sloane, Liam’s sister, is part of those that came to cross the parapet and survived. She also proudly stands in the group who has been hostile towards Violet in the book so far. Do you think Sloane will find it in herself to forgive Violet?

In Chapter Eight we are also introduced to Verrish’s dragon, Solas – a orange dragon with no regard for the rules. What do you think of Solas killing so many unbonded and bonded? Subsequently, Tairn shows up to threaten Solas. Do you think Solas will heed the warning?

Battle Brief starts off with two attacks. One in Sipene and the second at Athebyne, which was the outpost Violet, Xaden and several marked ones were sent to. The Battle Brief is already busier than the first one Violet and her squad originally attended in first year. Do you think this is an indication that the war is ramping up?

Assessment Day also takes place in Chapter Nine. Sloane is very adamant to challenge Violet. Unfortunately, for Sloane, things do not go her way, and everyone disagrees and turns down the challenge. Assessment Day fun does not end there. Someone is looking for Violet and when Nadine jokes at being Violet she gets killed. Who do you think wants Violet dead? Do you think she will be hunted from now on?

    • I think Violet will struggle to keep Brennan’s alive status a secret from her sister but ultimately she’ll carry the secret with her for a long while.

    • I love Rhi as squad leader. We know ita a title she’s wanted. Dain as wingleader annoys me so much coz he doesn’t deserve a higher title of power.

    • I think they might considering they are not trustworthy or ethical in any manner. They are diabolical in the most manipulative and evil way possible.

    • I was surprised but also this is intriguing as to what impacted the King’s son to join the riders quadrant out of all things. Eventually it will, yes

    • Definitely, although this seems like it will happen towards the end of the book or in Onyx Storm.

    • I hate Solas & his rider,Varrish. They are both downright dirty. Solas had no right to do that,it was drastically evil. Tairn is a badass and we stan! He is a dragon with morals and I hope Solas heeds his warning but judging by how Solas likes to start trouble for nothing. He’ll be back…

    • Yes as we are in book 2

    • I was shocked when Nadine died… did not expect that. Violet is always being hunted but now so are all of those that went to Athebyne… it’s messy

Big man Aetos is such a weird character, we sortof know him as Dain’s dad so you just assume he’s a nice dude but then he does this? There is no way Vi is gonna tell anyone about Brennan without thinking it through. She realises that she either can’t trust anyone or that trusting them might put their life in danger.

Leadership will try and abuse interrogation to get to Violet.

The king’s son being a character is significant, we just don’t know why yet. But there is no reason to give a character this much back story without making them a big player later on.

Sloane has no choice but to forgive Violet, in the end it seems like she has a skewed view of what happened and once she gets it straight in her head, she’ll change her tune.

Listen here, I only have bad things to say about both Solas and Verrish. I don’t think they’re the type of character to heed warnings, but rather the type to stop at nothing to get what they want.

There are some definitive signs that the war is amping up which aligns with what Brennan said at the beginning of the book.

It’s definitely Colonel Aetos that wants her dead, his threat keeps being repeated throughout.

I definitely think she will keep Brennan a secret, not only to save his life but the revolution they are embarking on.

It frustrates me to no end that Dain has been promoted after all he cost them but I’m excited that Rhiannon now has her time to shine.

There is no doubt in my mind that leadership is going to abuse this interrogation and I’m quite anxious to see how it will all go.

I think the kings son is going to play a significant roll in this revolution. I truly believe over time Sloane will find a way to forgive Violet once she heals emotionally.

Solas is definitely a bad egg and I’m worried for what is to come. I’m happy that Tairn put him in his place but I fear he may have angered him even more after what he’s done to him in the past.

I think Varrish and his friends are all targeting Violet as they are worried about what her signet might bring to future engagements.

Sigh…the way Dain turned out to be in the previous book, I’m not surprised at his dad. But the fact that he basically saw Violet and Mira grow up and he threatens them??? Crazy. I think Violet will keep Brennan a secret. She kept it so far, hopefully she will keep it a secret until it’s time.

No surprise that Dain got the position. I’m happy for Rhiannon though.

DEFINITELY. This is their time to get answers and not have any consequences.

This seems like a huge step for future Riders…but it seems too easy for him to have evade the king…

I think she will forgive Violet further in the book, but not any time soon.

I hate Varrish and Solas, they officially moved Jack and Dain out of spot 1 and 2. I don’t think Solas will heed Tairn’s warning.

I think both Colonel Aetos and Varrish wants her dead. Somehow Violet always finds herself being hunted.

I don’t like Col Aetos at all!! I don’t trust him nor Dain.
I think Violet will struggle a lot with the secret of Brennan, especially with Mira.

While I’m not excited that Dain is the new wingleader (he is no Xaden!), I am happy for Rhi that she is a squad leader.

Interrogation classes makes me very nervous for Violet and the rest of the crew. It will definitely give Col Aetos and his chronies a way to abuse their power.

It’s interesting that the King’s son wants to join the riders quadrant and I want to know more about how this will feature in the story as Violet seems to know him.

Sloan’s hatred toward Violet is both understandable yet also disappointing since she doesn’t know the full story of what happened. I hope that she will be able to forgive Violet as the story unfolds.

Solas is clearly lethal and a character I don’t like. Tairn has expressed his dislike too, but I don’t think this will keep Solas at bay.

Battle Brief is definitely a sign of things to come…

Nadine’s sudden death was such a shock! Just like that a life is snuffed out. Violet is definitely being targeted by Col Aetos.

I think it will be quite difficult for her to keep Brennan a secret. There will come a breaking point where Violet won’t be able to cope anymore.
I think Rhi is the perfect squad leader. The role suits her well. Dain being wingleader can only foreshadow lots of trouble…
I most definitely think power will be abused. There are already weird vibes from the leaders across the board but especially Varrish.
With the King’s son involved there is sure to be more political drama but he may prove to be a valuable team member due to his upbringing.
If Sloane understood the full situation she would probably forgive her. But Violet cannot share that information…
Solas stinks… boo! I do not think he will listen to Tairn because of Varrish and his sick obession with Violet.
Yes the war is definitely ramping up but no one is prepared which makes it so much worse.
A relative of Jack Barlowe wants to take his revenge. She is under a lot of threat at this time

I think that it will be hard to keep the secret, but if she needs to keep the secret to keep Brennan safe, she’ll do it.
Rhiannon is an epic squad leader! I love it! Dain on the other hand, I have a feeling he’s going to use his role of power for the wrong reasons.

I think they will abuse it, especially with Violet and the other’s they don’t like. It might be a way to get rid of someone by ‘accident’.

At first I thought that the king’s son wants to prove himself, but then I thought this is something he’s doing with a secret identity. I think he’s infiltrating for some information.

I was so happy to see Sloane! I really hope she’ll forgive Violet. We know it wasn’t Violet’s fault, but it will take Sloane time to realize this.

Solas! He went rogue! I was curious about Tairn and Solas having a history, but you never know…Solas seems to have his own will, much like his rider.

I think the war is definitely ramping up and we should expect more actions. It feels like a warning.

That scene of Nadine! I was shocked! It all happened so fast. I feel that Varrish or Aetos is behind this attack. Violet has a target on her back and she better be extra awake and not trust anyone.

I still can’t believe Brennan is alive! I’m glad for Rhi, she deserves squad leader! I do think Sloane will forgive Violet. Oh gosh, Solas, I think it’s unfortunate that dragons have to fight each other because of their riders (this is response to something yet to come). Why make our problems theirs? I don’t think Violet will ever be in the clear. Her connection to her mother and Xaden will always make her a threat.

Yes, to save the secrets she has too.

I am so happy for Rhi but worry what Dain will do – he happily accepts following orders even if they are wrong.

I am absolutely terrified for them!

I am very interested in the new character introduced (the kings son) but I am glad Violet has an ally.

Sloane should be blaming Xaden, not Violet!

Varrish and Solas are giving Jack Barlowe vibes and that honestly makes Basgiath an even more scary place.

Sadly, Violet is always being hunted. The mystery and tension is really amping up.

Siblings are important – so I believe Violet will do anything to keep her family safe. Her mother included even though we’re not sure which side of the war she will be on. Keeping Brennan secret from Mira is tough but I also don’t blame Violet because Mira could be a driving force in keeping the venin a secret. Still can’t believe Dain is the Wingleader and I’m slightly upset that Rhi is Squad Leader and not Sawyer, I feel like he deserves it more after having to repeat his first year.

Ah – what a co-winky-dink that interrogation is part of second year curriculum and Varrish JUST HAPPENS to be an interactions expert. If I were Violet, I would feel somewhat targeted. EAT HIM, TAIRN.

I am super curious about why the king’s son would want to join Basgiath. What would the prince want to do at a war college? Also, I feel straight up like someone is lying to Sloane. I don’t know why I get that vibe but I do have that vibe.

From hence forth – anything with Varrish will be – EAT HIM TAIRN. and I want Solas to find someone better.

    Also, I just learned Nadine’s name. R.IP.

Overall thoughts: YOU KNOW WHAT, REBECCA YARROS,
I work so hard to remember everyone’s names. So, on one hand I want to thank you for making it easier for me BUT ON THE OTHER HOW VER DARE YOU.

Also, How random is Ridoc’s tattoo and why would Violet even notice it? I feel it is important. What a random thing to mention IN THE MIDDLE OF EVERYTHING GOING ON. *snap, snap* Priorities, Violet. P.S Xaden writing Vi a letter? I am psychic in case you didn’t know [check my unboxing video of Iron Flame] and Rebecca and I think the same and if t hat is true – WE ARE IN DANGER.

    – I think Violet will really struggle to not tell Mira or to use it as a retort in an argument with her mom. She’s strong though so she’ll probably hold out for a while

    – noooo Dain as wingleader is so disappointing! Definitely does not live up to Xaden’s reputation. It makes sense that he is one, though, because of his dad (nepotism maybe?). Rhi is going to be such a great squad leader! It almost seems like she picks up on emotion easily which can help her know what her team needs.

    – 100% especially Aetos and Varrick. Interrogation will give them the perfect means to find out more about the war efforts and maybe try get rid of her as a traitor.

    – the Kings sons were mentioned as dying before training to be riders, which makes this character stand out more. He seems like he’s been placed for a stronger role, maybe in the next book or later in this one.

    – I think once Sloane reads the letters from Liam and maybe talks to Xaden or Imogen, she’ll start realising that Violet saved her brother before and start forgiving her.

    – Solas and Varrish are the worst. The Umbridge’s of this universe. They seem like they’ll stop at nothing to get what they want and I can’t wait for Tairn to take his other eye.

    – Yes, I think so. Even though they’re lying and covering up a lot, there’s either more they’re allowing to be known or more likely, the war is ramping up

    – I think Aetos and Varrish want her dead and they might find sneakier ways to try (like with interrogation).
