1. Alex has definitely shown some growth! I loved seeing her have a plan for The Plains and I think she’ll execute it to her best ability.
2. Antionette i feel like is ‘n bietjie mal (in a good way), so I don’t think she would have been too disapproving of the cannabis lol
3. Alex has learned behaviour, such as her avoidance toward certain things. I think she has felt like a disappointment her whole life and having her parents witness it every time is tough. Alex wanted to avoid that and maybe Alex felt like her family would just be aloof and not as supportive as she’s always wanted them to be.
4. Liesbet and Edward have shown some growth themselves! I really liked their characters at the end of the novel-and them offering Alex some financial support was really sweet. I think they saw the talent in Alex and wanted to help her reach the dreams she’s always wanted.
6. I think Alex thought no one had an interest in that part of her life. Instead of being disappointed, I guess she never expected or even offered to take anyone on a game drive with her.
7. Kwanele and Legend coming to The Plains was an act that was so SWEET and cute, i’m obsessed! This blatantly showed their care for Alex, and how they wanted to give that effort to keep her at Yamihle.
8. I think I actually screamed when I saw an interest between Jess and Legend. Hello? The author knows what’s up. HOW ADORBS, I’d absolutely read a book about them two! It would be a cute and intriguing dynamic!
9. When I read about Saskia telling everyone Alex’s business I was like… ‘bombastic side-eye’ cuz girl what? I wanted to see that growth come from Alex’s side. I also just felt like it was not Saskia’s space to tell everyone without consulting Alex first. I understand that it might have been necessary, I just found it to be an “eish” moment. It worked out for the better tho!
10. Totally! I can see Alex’s hyper-awareness correlating with an Impala-they are such jittery and angsty animals that run at the slightest disturbance. Alex’s direct and fierce loyalty to her friends also corresponds to a Lioness-Kwanele saying this was spot on and shows how well he reads Alex’s personality/actions.
11. Alex is determined and having the support of her family + everyone at Yamihle, the plans will definitely develop further. I hope that it will turn into something great and inspiring! Also, I loved how everyone assembled to save The Plains-team work really does make the dream work!

Yes, Alex has grown a lot—she finally has direction and confidence. It’s a big shift from how she started.
I don’t think Antionette would’ve cared much about the cannabis. She seems more practical than judgmental.
Alex still avoids her parents because there’s deep emotional damage there. Growth doesn’t erase hurt overnight.
Their offer was generous, but complicated. It felt like a way to make amends, not just throw money at the problem.
Jess and Saskia’s resolution was neat but a bit too quick. Still, it wrapped things up without drama.
Alex probably never offered game drives because she didn’t think anyone cared—or she didn’t want to be vulnerable like that.

Yes I think Alex has finally found something she is willing to fight for and her determination shows alot of growth.

I think that even though she has shown growth, she is still in the same situation she always lands up in and she is probably embarrassed.

Yes! I would hands down read anything to do with Legend lol. Honestly though, I would babe rather shipped Alex and Legend, I think that would have made a really good alpha-clash sort of enemies to lovers book.
I’m glad it finally came out and I am glad that it’s not as terrible as I initially thought. Unfortunately it’s something that has stuck with Alex for so long and I hope she heals.

Yes Alex has grown from the start of the book. It helped for her to take on a project she is passionate about, it gives her a purpose.
No I don’t think Antoinette would disapprove.
I think Alex doesn’t want to be seen as a failure in her parents eyes again. She would rather avoid them.
They have help all their other children financially, it would make sense that they would want to help Alex too.
I’m glad they both have come to terms with their situations, Saskia saw that her parents were happier apart, Jess coming to her senesces and leaving Roger – yay.
Alex had a pattern of avoidance, so she may not have had the opportunity, or she found something to do instead of taking her parents on a game drive.
I think is was important for Alex that they came, they probably also knew she wouldn’t come to them.
Yes I think there is a future for Jess and Legend. I would enjoy thier story.

Definitely, I love how much she has grown from the immature Alex we met in chapter 1.
I don’t think so, Antionette is very accepting and quite fun.
I think she feels that she has failed again and she doesn’t want her family to be disappointed in her.
I think that they show how much they care for her and how they want to support her. I think that it’s great that they offered to buy her a business and that she realised that her brothers didn’t set up their padel courts themselves.
I’m glad that Jess didn’t let Roger come back and that Liesbet didn’t push her to go to couples therapy after she spoke to Alex. Saskia seems happy that her parents are happier.
I think since they have been on many game drives, she felt that they wouldn’t be impressed or think much of a game drive with her/her skills as a guide, and she didn’t want to be judged.
I think it was great and made Alex realised that she was appreciated and that she was a good guide.
There definitely are sparks between Legend and Jess but I want her to heal from her relationship first. I would definitely want to read about them.
I knew that it would likely come out at some point so that we would have context for the way Alex was behaving. The kids at school were terrible.
I get the comparison – she’s as skittish and easily spooked as an impala – hypervigilant and ready to flee whilst she is brave and willing to stand up for the people who cannot stand up for themselves.
I love how everyone made a contribution to how The Plains can succeed. It’s important to Alex and so everyone wants to support her and Barend and Antionette

1. She has, as she had more confidence in herself and chose to help Barend and Antoinette in any way she could. She didn’t run at the first sign of trouble. On the other hand, I think Alex still has some growth to do in terms of how she avoids her family. She really didn’t want to reveal anything herself and I think that it is something she needs to work on.
2. No, I don’t think so! I think Antoinette may have surprised her had she revealed it!
3. I think she still has some shame attached to the events of her past. In addition, I think she also felt like she was a disappointment and assumed that her parents didn’t like her as much as her other siblings (due to her years of constant bullying). I think she was afraid of what they’d think of her!
4. I think Alex is really lucky to have parents that care about her interests and that are willing invest in her passions!
5. I think the divorces were the way to go in both cases. It ultimately made both Saskia’s parents and Jess happier.
6. Again, I think Alex was afraid she would disappoint them and that they didn’t care about what she did. She made a lot of assumptions on how they would act and feel about the things she did. She lacked a lot of self confidence and self love as well.
7. I think it showed how much they cared about Alex’s wellbeing, although I was quite surprised to see Legend come with Kwanele! I think it also showed how much confidence they had in her ability to be an excellent guide and it was something Legend did not want to lose.
8. I’d actually love to read about Legend and Alex 😂 they’ve had so many verbal sparring matches that I think they would be interesting together!
9. Yes but I didn’t expect Saskia to be the person revealing it all. I really thought Alex would find the courage to tell her parents what happened to her.

She seems full of surprises so maybe not. I mean, she didnt have a high opinion of Alex when she left but helped her none the less.
Because no matter how old you get, you still crave the approval of your parents and you dont want to disappoint them.
I think it was very sweet and i feel like they truly are sorry they werent there more for Alex. I feel like they are genuine in their care and their want to support Alex’s dream and passion.
I was really annoyed that after all this time, Saskia only decides to tell them now, when Alex isnt in a good place. I am super happy for Jess and i see the spark already between her and Legend, cannot wait to see the growth in that!!
I think it is a bit of both. I think they didnt realise just how passionate she was about this but also she was scared to let them into this part of her world.

Alex has most definitely grown quite a bit since the beginning of the book but I do still feel she has a lot of growth to go.
I think she wants to avoid her parents, because she is still embarrassed about her past and is scared her parents will judge her.I think her parents have finally seen some growth within Alex and feel like she would be more responsible to be able to hand that type of money.
I think as a whole all the resolutions were handled way too quickly and not very realistically.
I think Alex didn’t want to share this part of her life with her family, possibly because she thought she was going to be judged as well as her family also not showing much interest.
I really liked that they both came all the way to the Plains to find Alex and talk to her. It shows how much value they place in her and especially how much Kwanele cares about her.
I think Jess deserves more than what Roger gave her but I also think she has a lot of growth and healing to do with the end of that relationship before even thinking about jumping into another one.
The secret was bound to be spilled one way or another with how many hints we were given throughout this book.
I love how he describes her, she fits the description perfectly with taking the best parts of each species in terms of her personality.
Alex’s plans will most definitely come to fruition as she has so many people in her corner to help her execute this plan. -
I do think she’s grown, but I’m not entirely sure how much. And even up until the very end, she continued to run from her problems instead of confronting them. That said, she did gain confidence, showed more tenacity, and began to believe in herself. I just wish we had seen a bit more personal growth in terms of her emotional maturity by the end. She made progress, but there was room for more.
I don’t think so. Antoinette strikes me as someone who is open to modern ideas and progressive thinking.
Alex is still afraid of being a disappointment and she hasn’t fully dealt with the trauma that comes from feeling like she constantly falls short in their eyes. Avoidance is still her default when things get uncomfortable, especially when it involves her past or family.
I expected it. Her dad is one of the wealthiest men in the country, and it was heavily alluded to throughout the book. Financially supporting her is his way of showing love and making sure she’s happy. That’s often how parents try to fix things, by giving their kids what they think will make their lives easier.
I liked that both storylines had resolution, but it felt a bit too quick and told rather than shown. I would have loved more depth or scenes that showed us the healing process, especially for Jess. But I’m thrilled she’s no longer with Roger
I think it was a mix of both. Her parents probably saw her guiding as a phase. They never truly saw how serious she was or how much she cared. At the same time, Alex might not have wanted to show them that side of her life because she didn’t feel like they’d appreciate it or take it seriously.
It was sweet, and I appreciated the found-family energy of it all. But if I’m being honest, it felt a little unrealistic. If someone just disappeared from work like that, most places would be drawing up HR warnings, not driving across provinces. BUT it was nice to see people care about her that much.
Yes, I’d definitely read it. I’m a little sad because I was rooting for Alex and Legend in the beginning, they had such strong enemies-to-lovers energy that I wanted to see more of. But if Jess and Legend end up together, I can get behind that too.
I was disappointed. It felt like a betrayal, even if it wasn’t malicious. I would have preferred if Saskia had asked Alex to explain things herself. The way it came out made it feel like Alex had no control over her own story again like in highschool
Yes, I do. Comparing her to an impala and a lioness was actually very accurate. She’s quick to leap into things, sometimes impulsively, and while she can be fierce and strong, she also runs the moment things get emotionally overwhelming. She’s a contradiction.
I think they might. She’s passionate, and now that she has the support of her family and friends, there’s a real chance for her to make something amazing happen. However, I wasn’t entirely sure how Legend and Kwanele were meant to be involved. The logistics of that didn’t quite add up for me. The lodges are far apart, and it wasn’t clear what role they would play. I would have loved an extra chapter to show how the collaboration might work. In my head, I see her dad investing, and The Plains becoming Alex’s lodge and it becoming like her version of a dream project, with her people helping bring it to life. I imagine her friends, family, and maybe even some of the old Yamihle staff coming together to make it something really special.
