Now that we’ve had more of an introduction to Dirk. What do you think of him?

With the large group of guests arriving at the game reserve, the guides have to pull up their socks and take out all of their tricks. Alex shares that she is not good with kids but what do you think?

I enjoyed Alex in today’s chapters, I would also worry about my appearance on the job, especially when it’s new and I want to make a good impression and the clothes don’t seem to fit! I do find some qualities in her that are relatable.
Seeing as Grace mentioned that a famous interior decorator named Liz was the one who designed the rooms, I definitely think it was her mother.
I think it’s wonderful that the staff domt mind helping out with Jackson, I don’t think she bit off more than she can chew. I think she is caring and as they say, it takes a village…
I would have made like Kwanele and scadaddled if there was a huge baboon spider in the same vicinity as me!
Mine biggest fear in the bush would definitely be the spiders, I absolutely adore storms and I love doing the guided walks! Well, I guess if a lion charged me id be absolutely terrified in the moment though!
Alex comes off very blunt and straightforward but I think that it might be a safety mechanism to keep people at arms length. I think she has fun with the kids and she really was quite good with them.
I would have definitely taken the kids with! It’s such an adventure to witness something like that. I definitely feel like Julia’s mom is not a very nice lady – especially when it comes to parenting and I definitely think that she should have take care of her daughter in such a situation.
I’m a little worried about Jess, the way things are going isn’t looking good. I don’t think she’ll put herself first though, unless she gets a push.
I would definitely stay and watch the troop of baboons. I love everything about the wild!
Firstly, Kwanele? Swoon! He impressed me on every game drive. I really like his laid back and subtle but nice personality and what he did for Alex? GREEN FLAG!!! I hope things change between them because I’m all for it!

Lol, I do find Alex relatable.
My initial thought was that her mother did the renovation job, but her past is a traumatizing mystery. It could be a “blocked memory”.

I think it’s sweet of them to offer to care for Jackson. Now that you mention it, maybe she did bite off more than she can handle.

Haha 😅I totally would have let Kwanele handle that spider, I’m terrified of them lol

My biggest fear would be coming face to face with a lion alone, all by myself. 😱OMG

I’m not really a fan of Dirk. I think he tries to hard.

Alex seems to be “discovering herself”, she’s great with kids.

I would totally take the kids, that’s comes with the safari experience. The mother should be more present and attentive.

Not getting a hold of Jess was actually stressing me. I hope she’s OK.

Baboons are not my favorite animal, I would probably not stay either.

Oh my goodness, what a way to end the chapter. I love him coming to her. I hope they go from friends to lovers.

I find Alex extremely relatable. Her personality is very similar to mine – good intentions but very often misunderstood.

Yes I definitely think is was her mother since she mentioned in the beginning that her parents had been to Yamihle before. Grace also refers to the designer as “Liz” so that is also another clue.

I love that the staff have taken Jackson under their wing and included him as part of the family.

I am terrified of spiders!! I would not have been as brave as Alex. I would have run away

My biggest fear in the bush would be that I get bitten by a venomous snake and I’m too far away from a medical centre to receive treatment in time.

I don’t like Dirk at all.

I think Alex handled the 2 kids very well. She also showed empathy and respect for privacy.

Yes I still would have taken the kids to the lion kill sighting. Shamilla is definitely not attentive towards her children, nor does she seem to care all that much.

As much as I would love for Jess to leave Roger, I somehow don’t think she will prioritise herself.

Yes I would stay and watch for a bit. The interactions between troops of baboons can be quite heated!

I think Kwanele is a true gentleman. I loved that he came to check on Alex and even stayed underneath the bed with her. Could this be the start of something that blossoms?

I am always about self pride making sure I look the part so I definitely found myself relating to her in that moment.

I believe her mother could have been the interior designer. She made mention a couple chapters back that they had vacationed there in the past, so it would make sense if her mom was somehow involved in the decor.

It shows that they have good hearts and are trying to make Alex feel as welcome as they possibly can.

I do not do any creepy crawlers, so I would have been out of the room immediately! My biggest fear would definitely be the creepy crawlers and snakes.

I cannot stand Dirk, if anyone needs to be fired, it should be him.

I think Alex did a phenomenal job with the kids whilst on the game drive and even when they came back to camp. It’s all about stepping out of your comfort zone to show you that you are capable of doing anything. Julia’s mothers reaction was very surprising, you would think she would have been concerned about her child.

I am worried that Jess hasn’t gotten back to anyone and worry that Roger may have taken it a step further, but I really do hope she has ended their relationship.

I would definitely have given the baboons a second chance, all animal interactions are interesting to witness.

I really loved how he remembered their conversation and came to try and comfort her during that storm. It showed a lot about his character and I have a hunch it may be the beginning of something special.

    1. Alex genuinely wanted to make a good first impression! A moment of vulnerability really did make her more relatable in that moment.

    2. I definitely think it was her mom and that she’s going to be caught in her lie to her parents when her mom comes to visit and do the main room!

    3. They were all so kind about Jackson! Dumi giving him a permanent place in the kitchen was such a good idea, because he can help get Jackson healthy again!

    4. I would have ran for the hills at the sight of a spider like that 🤣 nope!

    5. Something crawling into my bed. Like drawing back the covers to see that spider or a snake.

    6. Not a fan of Dirk. He’s definitely throwing his weight around and isn’t really working well with Legend or Kwanele. He’s also rude to staff and he’s not going to command any respect that way.

    7. I think it’s because of her intolerance to specific things (and maybe past experiences) that have lead her to believe this. I think she probably just needs to work on how she delivers her messages but other than that, she’s seems great with them!

    8. 1000% yes. Her mom should have comforted her in some way. She was really scared and needed that reassurance in that moment. I am glad she got it from Alex at least.

    9. It might still be early days on that front. We last saw Jess defending Roger’s actions, so unless something drastic happened and it was the final straw for Jess, I think things might still be the same.

    10. For a while yes, but likely not too long as I am alil afraid of baboons and monkeys.

    11. It was really sweet that Kwanele came to make sure Alex was okay! It shows that he really listened to what she had to say and was genuinely concerned for her. Alex’s embarrassment was completely normal and I know she’d be able to explain that to him in the morning. I think it might be the first step towards things changing slightly between them! Excited to see where it goes!

She is definitely relatable. I am also always worried about my appearance on first days at new jobs.

Yes I think it was her mother. It is an upscale establishment which is in line with what her mother does and they also mention the designers name is Liz.

I think it is really sweet of them and it shows that they could possibly all become really good friends because Alex is new and already they are trying to help her as much as they can.

Yes!! I absolutely HATE spiders. BURN THE PLACE DOWN lol.

Coming across a snake in my room/tent or in the bed. Snakes freak me out so much and I think my soul would leave my body if i came across one.

I think he is arrogant and acts like a big shot when he really isnt. He needs to go.

I think she is already showing growth. She handled the two children very well and this links to her character growing and becoming more mature.

I definitely think that the kids should go along. It is such a wonderful thing to witness and learn about and it is one of those things they will remember for the rest of their lives. Julia is very annoying and i think she definitely should have been paying more attention.

I am worried about Jess in that relationship. I think she will only put herself first if someone gives her a nudge. I feel like she has a very weak personality in a sense where she will just continue taking the emotional and verbal abuse from Roger. I think something bad would need to happen for Jess to finally end things.

Most definitely! They are quite formidable creatures and actually really dangerous. I think being able to witness something like that first hand would be amazing.

I am all there for the possibility of this becoming a friends to lovers situation! I think it was really thoughtful that he came to comfort her and think this will be the start of something cute.

This is definitely relatable, it’s her first official day so it’s natural to want to look nice especially since she had felt uncomfortable the day before – looking tired and her hair greasy. I think I’m starting to connect with her more, especially since she is making an effort

I definitely think her mom is the designer since they said its Liz, that confirmed it after Alex said that the style was familiar

I think its kind of them to offer to take care of him during the day but she didn’t think it through, it would not have been practical for him to be in her room all day when she was working

Absolutely, I am not a fan of bugs and huge spiders are even worse.

It would definitely be poisonous bugs and snakes getting into the chalets

He is very arrogant and disrespectful to the employees.

I think that she is good with kids, since she is able to keep them engaged and under control

I don’t think that anyone could have predicted how Julia would react but her parents (both of them, not just her mother) should have realised that she wasn afraid of animals and arranged for her to do something else instead. Her mother seems to just want to have fun and isn’t really concerned about Julia – does this make Alex connect with Julia even more?

I don’t think so, I think she is trying to convince herself that everything is okay. Again, only when she reaches her moment of enlightenment, will she be ready to change things. At that point when she’s ready to leave if things don’t change. And I don’t think that shes there yet

I think that it would be entertaining. My favourite parts of documentaries are watching the beahviour in the family.

I think it shows that Kwanele cares enough to rememeber that Alex is scared of storms and the fact that he sat under the bed with her, shows how supportive he is of her. They already have an easy relationship and I think that this will make it easier to slip into something more significant.

I liked seeing Alex worry about her appearance on her first day — it made her feel more human and a little less guarded than usual. She’s not the easiest character to like, but she’s definitely growing on me.

The bedroom scene definitely gave me “mom’s signature touch” vibes — either her mother did design it or someone who knew her work really well.

Grace, Ayanda, and Dumi offering to help with Jackson was sweet — honestly, Alex did bite off more than she could chew with him, so it’s nice to see people stepping in to support her, especially when she rarely asks for help.

The spider at Treehouse Camp didn’t bother me — I’m not scared of spiders, so I probably would’ve just shooed it away, but I liked the way the moment opened up space for Alex and Kwanele to be vulnerable with each other.

Biggest fear in the bush? Probably getting stuck somewhere with no signal and something huge lurking just out of sight. That isolation hits different in the wild.

Dirk? Meh. He feels very performative and kind of dismissive when it comes to actual issues.

I laughed at Alex saying she’s not good with kids, because I think she’s better than she gives herself credit for. She just doesn’t know how to relate to them yet, but she cares — and it seems they pick up on that.

The lion kill scene was intense. Personally, I wouldn’t have taken the kids that close — I think some of the guides got caught up in the hype. Julia clearly wasn’t ready for it, and her mom definitely should’ve been more in tune with that.

The Jess and Roger thing is worrying. I’m not sure Jess knows how to put herself first yet, but I’m hoping that arc is coming. She deserves better.

Baboons are chaotic in the best way — I would definitely stick around to watch the turf war. It’s like live-action drama in the wild.

And the thunderstorm scene? So soft. Kwanele handled it perfectly — no judgement, just quiet support. I think that moment might shift things between them emotionally. It felt like real connection, not just surface-level chemistry.

I think this was more her psyching herself up, like there is nothing she can do about it and “it is what it is”, so instead of complaining, she is just going to get one with it. I think it is endearing because it shows she can overcome a little discomfort in the perception of how she looks and that how she dresses doesn’t mean she can’t do the job.

No, I don’t think her mother was the interior decorator. African design, especially in game lodges, tends to follow a very similar look and style. It is not all done by one person. African decor is a theme on its own. Interior designers look at what is chic, popular, and works well in that space, and then incorporate it.

I think it was really sweet of them to offer. It shows that they are just as kind and thoughtful as Alex is. I do not think this is a sign that Alex has bitten off more than she can chew. It is just people being willing to help because they are good-hearted.

Absolutely. I reacted the exact same way when I once found a spider on my pillow at a game reserve. I would have freaked out and tried to get it out of the room as quickly as possible.

Snakes. 100 percent snakes. Especially in the South African bush, where they can be very dangerous.

I think Dirk is an arrogant, power-hungry jerk. He seems like the type of person who wants to look better than everyone around him and makes sure to throw his weight around whenever he can.

Yes, I actually think she is really good with kids. I think she is good with people in general, as long as they are not ruining the experience for others. She has a great knack for listening, observing, and quietly helping a situation without making a big fuss. People often underestimate her because they do not see those subtle nuances, but she is far more intuitive than people give her credit for.

Honestly, I was a little sceptical about them taking the kids to watch the lion kill. I understand that, as an adult, seeing that in the wild is exciting and a rare opportunity, but they had already separated the kids onto their own game drive. Knowing how graphic that kind of sighting is, especially with a ten-year-old in the group, I probably would have skipped that one. And yes, I absolutely think Julia’s mother should have paid more attention to her. What a terrible parent.

I still think it is going to take time for Jess to fully see her situation for what it is. It is incredibly difficult for anyone in an abusive relationship, in whatever form that abuse takes, to just leave. It takes time, support, and strength to get out of that situation, so I think it is going to take a lot more before Jess puts herself first.

Absolutely. I feel very spoiled because I have been on quite a lot of game drives, and I honestly get a little bored just sitting and staring at lions or elephants. For me, watching baboons, looking at dung beetles, or observing smaller or lesser-seen animals is way more interesting. I love sitting and watching how these animals interact, how they live in their environment, and the smaller moments that people often overlook. I am far more interested in the little five than I am in the big five.

I thought it was very cute that Kwanele came to check on her. I do wonder how they both managed to fit under that bed because I know for a fact I could never fit under mine. But I think it was really sweet that he noticed she was scared and came to sit with her. It shows that he is observant and cares enough to make sure she felt safe.

Yes i do find Alex relatable, i think we all worry about our appearance, especially when new toa job.

Yes I think the designer could be her mother and that’s why it felt familiar.

I think its wonderful that she has the support to take care of Jackson.

I a large baboon spider most likely.

My biggest fear is probably snakes in my room.

I think Dirk doesn’t like Alex, he is too much of a control freak, but he is not coping very well with the pressureI

I think Alex is good with kids, dealing wiht feeding monkeys is a bit of a challenge but then later she seemed to relax wiht Kwanele and have fun with the kids.

Seeing the lions on a kill wasn’t the issue, so It was fine to take them, it when they started fighting it became traumatic especially for Julia, Lions fighting is noisy and aggressive. I do think Julia’s mother should have been more aware of Julia’s fear and paid more attention to her.

I am worried about Jess, not sure if she is strong enough yet to put herself first.

Yes I would stay to watch baboons, there is always something happening.

I think Kwanele did the right thing to come to Alex during the storm. I do think thing will change between them, this was an intimate moment.

    1. I would do the same because, to me, it’s a very normal thing to do when you want to create a good impression on your colleagues.
    2. I think it’s her mother. She mentioned before that they used to go to the game reserve as a family so it could be possible that Legend got her mother to decorate the rooms.
    3. They seem to also want a bit more company and maybe protection from the monkeys in the kitchen, and they might be nice in trying to help her out to ensure Jackson doesn’t get stir-crazy in the room the whole day.
    4. I would react the same way Kwanele, or even just run out of the room and let the guests deal with it.
    5. Swallowing a spider while sleeping lol.
    6. I don’t like him one bit.
    7. I think she is good with kids because she sometimes thinks as impulsively as them.
    8. I would ask the kids first, obviously a younger boy will be more enthusiastic than a teen girl. And I think the mother should have been more attentive to her daughter. I get that she wants this week to be about her, it is her birthday, but that doesn’t stop you from being a mother.
    9. Yes I think she is.
    10. No baboons kinda scare me so I would be disinterested.
    11. I think it was kind of him to console Alex like that. It might change things in their relaitonship but it seems more like a friend just looking out for another.

    1. Yes, it makes her feel more human and vulnerable. Many people worry about how they’re perceived on a first day—very relatable.
    2. It’s highly likely her mother had something to do with the decor, or at least someone deeply influenced by her. The familiarity felt too personal to be a coincidence.
    3. It was a kind and generous offer. Alex’s heart was in the right place with Jackson, but she definitely underestimated how much work it would be—so the support was much-needed.
    4. Honestly, I’d probably scream too. The spider situation was definitely a jump-scare moment, and their reaction felt real.
    5. My biggest fear in the bush would probably be snakes or getting caught out alone at night. Nature can be wild and unpredictable.
    6. Dirk gives off strong “corporate villain” energy—arrogant, dismissive, and power-hungry. Not a fan.
    7. I think Alex is better with kids than she gives herself credit for. She might not be a natural, but she tries and cares, which counts for a lot.
    8. Personally, I wouldn’t have taken the kids. Lion kills can be intense, and Julia’s reaction proves how overwhelming it can be. Her mother should have been more attentive.
    9. I think Jess is reaching a breaking point. Whether she puts herself first depends on how strong her boundaries are—but something’s definitely off.
    10. Yes, I would’ve stayed. Baboons are chaotic, dramatic, and weirdly entertaining—their social dynamics are fascinating.
    11. Kwanele handled it with calm and care. He didn’t tease or dismiss Alex’s fear, and that kind of emotional support can definitely shift the dynamic between them in a good way.
