Chapter Six starts off with a bang or rather a de-escalation. Do you think the professors were wise in allowing the unrest to reach this point and for it to be solved in this way? Do you think it will have the effect the professors are hoping for?
We also finally get to learn more about the negotiations taking place. Most of Andarna’s demands have been met but not her demand regarding the fliers. Why do you think they are refusing to meet this demand, beyond that the alliance is tricky? The chapter ends with us learning that Xaden has his title back. He is once more the Duke of Tyrrendor. How do you think this will influence negotiations and the rest of the book? Why do you think the king has returned Xaden’s title?
After a super secret mission that all the Aretian riot seems to know about, Violet and the rest of the squad successfully alter the wards. The fliers can now wield. What do you think the consequences of her treason will be?
Colonel Aetos is back and he still holding a grudge. We learn that he will be taking over General Sorrengail’s position as General of Basgiath. What do you make of Colonel Aetos’ punishment for the squad? Additionally, what do you think of the Major’s response to the cadets arriving at Samara? Do you think that Aetos is so blinded by his hurt pride that he can’t see the mistake he is making?
We learn that Maren’s family is in Newhall just outside of the Samara wards. How do you think the squad will try and save her family? Will they make it in time and unscathed?
It is finally in Chapter Ten that we learn the name of the silver-haired venin. Theophanie spared Violet’s life and has offered two acts of goodwill. We learn that Newhall was a trap for Violet and she has willingly fallen into it. What do you make of Theophanie calling Andarna the irid. What do you think this means?

I think it was important for the unrest to occur so that they could see who stood up and showed leadership qualities. It will also eventually help bring them altogether in their quest to get rid of the venin.
Xaden’s title is a blessing in disguise, he will be able to use it to his advantage when the time comes. Even though he may not necessarily want it, often those that don’t want it end up being the best leaders.
I believe Violet is going to land up in some serious trouble but I also believe Xaden’s new title will help in this regard.
Colonel Aetos is truly just a doosh on steroids.. I believe his jealousy will only negatively affect him down the line. He is most definitely blinded by his pride.
The squad will always do what is right and that is to save the people that are in need, so I do believe they will rally and help her family, hopefully we won’t have too many causalities.
I’m excited to have a new villian on the page and we finally have a snippet of information about what Andarna is, so hopefully we can now expand on that tidbit.

The professors actions helped things calm down but stepping in at the last moment could make the students feel they are not being taken seriously.
By refusing to meet the demand it could be they don’t trust the fliers or they want to show they have power and control.
By returning Xaden title it could be the King has recognized Xaden’s value and skills and wants to utilize his abilities so he isn’t a threat.
Violet could face punishment.
His punishment is likely from revenge rather than justice.
The majors response showed he cared about protecting Samara and everyone in it.
Yes. By him being blinded by his hurt pride it could cause more problems.They will do everything in their power to save her family.
Theophanie calling Andarna the irid could mean there is more to her than we know and she could be the key.

I don’t think it was wise for the professors to allow the unrest to escalate as much as it did and definitely should of tried to de-escalate the unrest sooner, I mean they are professors after all, but in saying this I do think they way unrest resolved was necessary as it helped the riders decide for themselves who should lead.
I think that Andarna’s demands regarding the fliers were not met because well the alliance hasn’t exactly been established and they could possible want to remain in ‘control’ and been seen as the more powerful side, maybe they also didn’t agree to this demand because they want the final say over a dragon and not the other way round?
Yay, the Duke of Tyrrendor is back! By Xaden having his title back this could either aid in the negotiations as he is a duke os a well-known house or it could negatively affect the negotiations because of the previous rebellions. The king I think returned his title because he realised the true value of having Xaden on his side and fighting with him.
I think Violets consequences of her treason will be frowned upon and she will most likely get in trouble but I don’t think anything serious will happen such as punishment because Violet has such a way with words that she will be able to explain and justify her way out of it and she has one of the unknown 7th breeds of dragon on her side.
Ugg I feel like Dain is better than Colonel Aetos which is saying a lot. I think his punishment to the squad was justifiable in the way that the squad had to receive consequences to their actions as it wouldn’t go down well if the newly elected general didn’t appear to have control over Basgiath. I think that Colonel Aetos does care about the well-being of the people in Samara. I think Colonel Aetos is trying to establish himself in this position of power and thinks that by making such moves and being ‘clever’ he will receive praise and end the war in the bigger scheme of things, but I think his pride will definitely cause problems further down the line.
The squad will do anything to help each other and their families so I think they will rally together to try save Maren’s family but whether or not they make it in time and unscathed I don’t think so.
I like that we have a name to our villain, Theophanie, and by her calling Andarna the irid I think this shows Andarna means more to the story that we know but also in the villain sharing this information maybe its foreshadowing that they are perhaps not the villains in this story.

1. I believe the professors did not intervene because they trusted the riders present to get the situation under control. As Devera mentioned, its better that the outburst happened in a controlled environment. I think their approach to let fellow riders speak in an attempt to unite everyone was more inpactful. With Violet being as powerful as she is, and a fellow student, she commanded respect from the room (and also flexed her power abit) which forced everyone to take a moment to think before they acted. I don’t think it will magically undo the years of hatred the Navarrians have instilled in them, however triggering rethinking is definitely a start.
2. Apart from wanting to exercise control, I think it’s also a deep rooted mistrust in the fliers. 🤔
3. I think the King did it in an attemptbto recoup some of his army and gain control. I think Xaden is going to disrupt the selfishness that has persisted for years and be a breath of fresh air to the problems at hand.
4. Vi is going to be in a crap ton of trouble for treason but I’m hopeful this is one of the ways Xadens new title will be useful.
5. Aetos Snr is seriously giving me Varrish vibes. His pride is definitely going to be his downfall. I think his punishment was unnecessarily endangering a powerful group of riders with alot of potential and absolutely immature in his weak attempt to establish control.
6. They will definitely attempt to save her family as they’re all very noble. I don’t think they will make it unscathed because that would be too easy.
7. Theophanie is such an intriguing character due to her similarities to Vi. Referring to Andarna as an irid is some clue to the breed of dragon she is. I’m sure Vi will use this in her quest for knowledge on Andarnas family.

This artwork is amazing 🤩 About Chapter 6, I think the professors wanted to see what would happen if they were left to their own. How they would act and come to an agreement perhaps. But obviously it took a different turn.
I think leaving the one demand unmet just gives them that small sense of control. With Xaden getting his title back – I think this will be to their advantage in more ways than one. I have no idea why his title is returned, but I am suspicious because it’s at a crucial time, so perhaps it’s for leadership.
Looking back at Violet’s previous consequences in Iron Flame, I can just imagine that it could be worse.
Colonel Aetos is acting out of revenge at this point. None of his choices will be to protect Navarre, it will only be to cause Violet harm, directly or indirectly.
Maren’s family – the squad will always try to save people where they can, especially if it’s one of their own. Violet understands loss and wants to spare Maren that pain.
I am so here for what Theophanie brings to the table, even though she’s venin. I am curious to see what her presence will cause and how Violet will handle her. The word irid immediately had me thinking and I’m very curious to find out more. We are getting more info about Andarna.

I think the professors purposefully stood back to see who exactly takes charge and shows leadership and loyalty (no matter how they do it). I did not agree that they let Aura carry on the way she did, and felt they should have stepped in at that point.
I’m happy that Xaden has his title back. It shows that the King holds value in Xaden and trusts him enough to give him nacm his title and therefore responsibilities that goes with it.
Col Aetos will be spurred on even more to make Violet’s life a living hell. He will dish out the worst punishment he can.
It might involve purposefully keeping Violent and Xaden apart.Col Aetos is such an insecure shallow character. He is purely driven by his own fears and sees the cadets as threats.
He cannot see or think beyond his emotions.I hope they can save all the members of her family!
Theophanie clearly knows more about what Andarna is. I’m intrigued to find out more…although why does it have to be from one of the main villains??

I’m not sure! I actually didn’t realise this was planned by the professor’s and it was just something that was bound to happen as a result of the riders from Aretia returning.
I think they are refusing to meet the demand because they just don’t want to have to show any weakness and yielding. Xaden has his title back, I think this gives him a lot more power to make decisions. Perhaps the Senarium may regret it, but it’s the only way to really ensure that they get the help from Aretia.
I think the consequences of her treason will be some kind of punishment to separate her and Xaden or the Aretian riot.
I think it’s typical of him to punish the squad that way – the same way he did in Fourth Wing by sending them into conflict during War Games. I feel sorry for the Major, he’s tired and under stress and now he has to deal with cadets! Aetos is definitely only thinking about his pride.
I’m not sure how they’ll save them – probably ride into Newhall? But also, I hope no one dies.. but people die in this book! Even when you don’t want them to.
Theophanie is clearly very old and know’s a lot of what has happened over the last 600 years (and before that) if she knows the name of the breed Andarna is.

I think the reasoning for the professors standing back was a way to see who can take charge and shows leadership skills.
I think trust needs to be earned in this situation. A proper alliance hasn’t been met yet so I can understand that they must be hesitant towards agreeing to all the negotiations taking place.
Xaden gaining back his title will be very beneficial for future negotiations, and will be something I think he can really use to his advantage.
I think his punishment was more revenge than anything else. If Colonel Aetos has no haters then I’m ☠️. I definitely think his pride has been wounded and therefore all he sees is rage, though I can already see this coming back to bite him in the butt.
I trust that they will do their best and plan a successful rescue. Fingers crossed it’ll all go well.
My mind is racing with theories about Andarna. We know so little so I am eating up every last crumb of information we are given!

Think they would have intervened if it became really bad, but they also wanted to see who would stand out as leaders and who were just troublemakers. I think the professors were happy with the result.
They don’t want to weaken the wardstone so that the flier can wield and they aren’t much use if they can’t. They also want to show they are in control.
Xaden is once more the duke of Tyrrendor because Duke Lewellen and Duke Lindel were demoted for hiding Aretia, so Xaden was the only choice for King Tauri. Xaden now has more influence in the senarium.
Violet will get a wrap over the knuckles – so to speak, but because she has Andara and Tarin, they need her so they cant’s do much.
I Think Conel Aetos is power hungry and like to throw his weight around when he can. He did try to kill Violet without much success. So he will do whatever he can to make her life difficult. I think the Major at Samara doesn’t think much of Conel Aetos’s leadership skills and is annoyed with. He has enough battle to fight without having to deal with cadets.
The squad will do what they can to save Maren’s family. They are there for each other and are not afraid to fight if needed. Not sure if they’ll make it in time.
The Venin seem to know about the irid’s and lknow much more about them then we do. what it means only time will tell.‘
