Raiders Day Four

Dolf returns with the Lion Man and information provided by Blum. Despite the whole situation being nefarious, what do you think of the whole procedure of determining if an item is truly an artefact?

When Monica and Arend open the safe they find USB sticks. Did you expect there to be treasure behind the door?

At the end of Chapter 35, Monica meets up with Robert, the man she had been fantasising a life with. What do you think of the flip when Monica saw him?

What do you think of the news she is given at the end of the chapter?

Kassie and Amalia are a part of various organisations. Would you join and chair an organisation like they do?

Kassie often uses his pseudonym and the excuse that the general is looking for this information. Do you think this puts the general at risk?

Were you surprised that Barnabas made the trip to kill Arend? Do you think Arend was really looking to cross Barnabas?

Do you think Barnabas was the coloured man that Monica saw? Or was that someone who merely accompanied Barnabas?

Clarissa mentions that one of Williams’s men is keeping an eye on Dolf. Do you think he is about to be caught out?

Do you think that by the end of Chapter 39, Rooi and Kassie should have realised that Steenberg is not a real name?

It looks like Barnabas is on the heels of the detectives. Do you think Barnabas will catch up to them?

Kassie assures Amalia that his and Rooi’s investigation has been subtle. Do you agree?

Based on everything we have learned about Arend, did you think he was just going to let Moerdyk walk?

    – This to me does sound very close to the way I think it will normally be. We are talking about artifacts that are a thousand years old, so I think there are a lot of processes to go through.
    – No, it seemed so easy. You would think that they would be much more careful.
    – I think she realized that not everything is as easy as she thinks it is. I think she got a reality check that the grass is not always greener on the other side.
    – I am currently part of way too many organizations, so I understand this.
    – Yes definitely, especially if they are already aware that people disappear in this case.
    – I was so surprised to read this. But it shows shoes that Barnabas is not scared to get his hands dirty. I don’t think Arend wanted to cross him, just that he has a conscious and didn’t feel he needed to die. The same as the twins.
    – I am thinking she saw Barnabas
    – Yes, I do think so. He is running a lot of his own errands, and someone is going to find out what he has been doing.
    – Yes, it was quite frustrating that they didn’t even think that could be a possibility.
    – It seems like he knows everyone and where they are at every time so I am scared that Barnabas will catch up to them.
    – No, because way too many people have already found out about this investigation.
    – Yes, I suspected it. He also didn’t want to eliminate the twins, so this was not a shock to me.

    1. The steps to authenitcating an artefact does sound legit. It would make sense that something needs to go through multiple tests to determine whether it’s a real artefact or not.
    2. No, not real treasure but also not USB’s.
    3. My mouth literally gaped open. I really didn’t expect that. I think the whole situation is super messy and I really still can’t comprehend how callus she was to both Robert and Arend.
    4. I feel like nothing should surprise me at this point.
    5. No, it sound’s like far too much admin and stress. I have enough admin during the day, I feel like added admin might overwhelm me.
    6. No, not really because the general isn’t looking in the right direction. It’d be pointless to target the general for something if the general wasn’t close to uncovering the truth.
    7. Yes, I was. I didn’t expect Barnabas to do it himself. I don’t think Arend intentionally tried to cross Barnabas. I do think his conscious started to haunt him and he thought he was doing the right thing.
    8. She definitely saw Barnabas.
    9. No, I think Dolf knows he’s playing a dangerous game and is probably aware that he’s being monitored
    10. No, not really. Especially toward te end of day 4’s chapters.
    11. It didn’t really cross my mind in the moment, but looking back at how he had acted with the other 3 executions, we all should’ve known he wouldn’t be able to go through with their plan.

    1. It seems like a taxing process. It’s tedious what Blum does, especially since he’s on the down low.
    2. Yeah
    3. That was fun to read. But it was heartbreaking at the same time since she had her whole heart on the new business they were going to set up.
    4. Devastating, but I think she took it like a champ?
    5. Nah I wouldn’t. Maybe after I retire. It’s a lot of work.
    6. I didn’t really think it does put the general in danger at the time, but who would dare take out a whole general?
    7. I was surprised actually. I don’t think Arend was looking for any trouble, his heart just wasn’t in the whole bad cop sting. I think his guilt was starting to catch up with him.
    8. I already know who Barnabas is, but no I didn’t think it was the coloured man.
    9. Omg! Dolf kept me stressed!
    10. Yeah they really should have.
    11. I really thought he would
    12. Nah. It hasn’t been subtle, but so far they aren’t in any major trouble. So, I guess it work out for them.
    13. Yeah. I mean his first POV said it all.

    1. I find this procedure very interesting! It is clear they are thorough with their artefact business.

    2. I expected something incriminating, but I didn’t have a specific thing in mind.

    3. It is clear she never really had an interest in Robert in beyond her visions for their partnership. I can understand her frustration at her plans disappearing in front of her, but I feel like she could’ve been a bit more sympathetic to Robert’s condition.

    4. It was obvious to us who killed Arend, but to Monica it must have been a shock.

    5. I would if it was something I was competent in! During my school and university days I belonged to many societies and clubs, much like these organisations.

    6. There is a potential risk, but their excuse is not suspicious enough to be as risky as the truth.

    7. I was surprised that Barnabas did not send one of his henchmen to kill Arend, but it is clear that Barnabas gets LIVID when someone double-crosses him which makes him go off to get vengeance himself without really thinking it through. I don’t think Arend wanted to cross Barnabas, he just didn’t want to kill another (mostly) innocent man.

    8. Yes, that is probably Barnabas. However, I cannot be 100% certain.

    9. Yes! Dolf is playing a dangerous game, and I am so sure he is going to be caught out soon.

    10. This is what we were talking about in the group 🙈 How had they not already figured out by then that Clarissa was using a pseudonym too?! 😅

    11. I don’t think he will, but he might get close!

    12. I think they have tried to be subtle, but Barnabas has eyes and ears almost everywhere.

    13. I didn’t think he would, but it is not surprising that he did. Arend did show some sense of morality.

    1. It seems right to me, it must be a long process to get everything authenticated.
    2. I was honestly hoping they’d find treasure!
    3. She clearly got a rude awakening and was obviously disappointed but I felt like she could’ve showed Robert and his unexpected situation more compassion. I felt bad for him.
    4. It must’ve come as a shock to her.
    5. It depends on the organisation. If it was something I was passionate about then maybe.
    6. Possibly, these people have killed police officers so why wouldn’t they take out a police General too?
    7. That did surprise me actually. I didn’t feel like Arend was out to double cross Barnabas, I think he wasn’t the cold blooded type of assassin that he was made out to be.
    8. I didn’t think it was Barnabas.
    9. That had me at the edge of my seat because I did think they were going to catch him at any minute!
    10. Yes! It was so frustrating that they couldn’t figure that out.
    11. I was worried that he would.
    12. I don’t think they were as subtle as they thought they were.
    13. Yes he was going to let him go.
