I adored this book! Thank you so much for the advanced readers copy @jonathanballpublishers @cocomellors

How do I begin to describe the Blue sisters; each one of them so unique, wonderful, complicated and fiercely loyal.

Avery, Bonnie, Nicky and Lucky grew up thick as thieves, each taking on different roles within their sibling relationships from a very young age, many of which to they continued to play into adulthood.

🩵 Avery, the eldest, a-type personality lawyer with a seemingly perfect life in London; and a strong sense of maternal duty towards either sisters.
🩵 Bonnie, a pro-boxer with the softest heart; the peacemaker.
💙 Nicky, the glue that kept her sisters together while fighting a health battle that lead to her untimely passing; the saint.
🩵 Lucky, the baby whose striking looks launched a modeling career that is the epitome of the saying, “all that glitters isn’t gold”; the wild child.

A year after Nicky’s death, the remaining Blue sisters are brought together as their mother is selling their childhood home. The trip home is significant for each of them for different reasons, but is underpinned by their grief for Nicky. Being back in New York forces each of the sisters to face their pasts, the fact that Nicky is truly gone and most importantly, one another – as anyone with a sister knows, they’ll tell you the hard ugly truths you often know but don’t want to hear.

As each of the Blue sisters begin to unpack how Nicky’s life and passing has affected them, they find themselves pulling away from and gravitating towards one another…each secretly hoping that they can find a new way to be the inseparable Blue sisters, a way that honors Nicky but also moves them forward 💙

Pick this one up. Fall in love with this beautiful story. You won’t regret it.

“But no one could ever know, she understood now, the full reality of another person’s inner life. Not even a sister’s.” 🩵🩵

The best start to 2024 was the chance to read Coco Mellor’s new novel – Blue Sisters – releasing later this year! If it isn’t on your radar yet, make sure it is! You won’t want to miss this incredibly moving story about Avery, Lucky and Bonnie, who navigate a difficult year after losing their sister, Nicky.

Each character felt so unique and well crafted that I’m convinced these people are real & that this family exists. That is just a testament to Mellors’ skill and her wisdom about life and its many struggles: addiction, abuse, loneliness, grief and above all, the incredible bond and love that can exist between sisters. While I don’t have any myself, I’m lucky enough to have friends who are like sisters to me, and I resonated so much with the feeling of belonging and girlhood joy that can only take place in particular moments of adolescence and adulthood:

“That feeling that to be a girl with other girls was not some weakness, as they had been told, but a power, the best and luckiest power on earth.”💄💋👠👭

The accuracy of the ever present feeling of grief was also expertly described, especially how each person grieves differently, or has a different memory of ‘closeness’ to the same person who is gone.

“I wait for the feeling to end, because every other feeling has ended, no matter how intense, no matter how hard – but this won’t. There’s just no end to the missing.”

Overall, this is a rare and beautiful book. Filled with such heart and hard truths about the messiness of life and the many ways we can redeem ourselves, even when we fear it’s too late. I think you will love it. 🩵🩵🩵

“True sisterhood, the kind where you grew fingernails in the same womb, were pushed screaming through identical birth canals, is not the same as friendship. You don’t choose each other, and there’s no furtive period of getting to know the other. You’re part of each other, right from the start. Look at an umbilical cord—tough, sinuous, unlovely, yet essential—and compare it to a friendship bracelet of brightly woven thread. That is the difference between a sister and a friend.”

I enjoyed this book immensely! Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (full review on my #bookblog)

5 reasons to read this book:

💙 Rich Character Development: The novel delves deep into the lives of the three sisters, each with her own distinctive personality. Their struggles, flaws, and growth make for a captivating character-driven narrative.
💙 Raw Emotions and Gut-Wrenching Realities: Mellors doesn’t shy away from portraying the raw emotions of addiction, self-sabotage, and grief. The book takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, leaving a lasting impact.
💙 Exploration of Sisterhood: If you appreciate stories about family bonds, especially sisterhood, this book is a must-read. The complexities of their relationship—the love, resentment, and shared history—are beautifully explored.
💙 Realism and Women’s Health Issues: Beyond the personal drama, “Blue Sisters” weaves in real-world issues, including women’s health. The characters grapple with challenges that resonate with many readers.
💙 Immersive Writing Style: Mellors’ prose paints vivid pictures of New York City and draws you into the setting. Her writing is both beautiful and evocative, making the reading experience truly immersive.

Whether you’re drawn to character-driven narratives, emotional depth, or simply want to explore the bond of family, “Blue Sisters” offers a rich and rewarding reading journey.

I can only imagine the pressure an author feels when writing their second book. Especially after the debut was such a hit.

All I can say is that @cocomellors succeeded with flying colours!🥹
Blue Sisters gave me so much more than I thought it would.

If I were to describe it in one word: heavy
If I could use two words: heavy & unputdownable 👀

There is depth in these characters that makes you root for them, despite their flaws and self destructive behaviour. The plot is woven in such a way that you follow along exactly as it happens, despite the shifts in narrators. There aren’t too many characters, so you follow along easily, but each sister still has her own world and her own people.

I would definitely recommend this for a reader who, like me, enjoys a light read but a story that leaves a lot on the table👏🏼
