I think Raker is more so tryna process his feelings for Aris and perhaps yes, everything else too a little.

Coz she has feelings for him, intense feelings that both Raker and her have been denying and fighting during the entire quest/journey.

Pretty sure Raker knew that coz he does have a lot of knowledge, more than Aris but I doubt that was his goal for getting close to her… that wasn’t his motive imo.

I love that bit of information we got fed! Makes the bond between Aris & Raker extra cool. It sucks tho that uniting the swords could cause destruction…

Yes, I knew at some point she’d meet her dragon again!

I like Zane a lot and I was relieved that he was safe just as I suspected and he made the journey successfully!

I was expecting the Goddess to be more ruthless instead she was really annoying and petty.

I didn’t expect that but I did expect her to trick the Goddess in some way with that oath coz Aris was hellbent on revenge and she’s a determined soul.

It was epic! The way I gasped. This twist was the highlight & cherry ontop of an already amazing story.

I’m excited to Raker and Aris battle it out but I also just need them to be together! I’m hyped for Stormside and can’t wait. I enjoyed book 1 so my expectations and excitement for book 2 is set! Raker could succeed and I feel like that might happen but maybe towards the end of book 2 to set the stage for book 3 if there will be one…

Thanks JBP for this amazing readalong! ❤️

Q: Why do you think Raker is silent after everything Aris told him? Do you think he is trying to process all the new information?
A: Yes, he’s probably also putting some puzzle pieces together.

Q: At the end of Chapter Forty-Two, Aris admits that she always knew Raker would betray her. Why do you think she let her guard down in Chapter Forty-Two?
A: I think she hoped that she would be proven wrong about Raker.

Q: Do you think Raker knew that if Aris let him in, he would have easy access to her sword? Do you think this is what he was waiting for?
A: Yes, unfortunately. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Q: What do you think of what the ethereal woman revealed about the two Godswords?
A: I think big trouble is coming.

Q: Did you expect Aris to be reunited with her dragon by the end?
A: Yes! I can’t wait until they’re together again and we learn her name.

Q: What do you think of Zane’s story arc?
A: I love that for him and I’m happy he survived. I hope we see him again.

Q: After years of looking for vengeance, Aris finally confronts the God of Travels. What do you think of the encounter?
A: I expected more rage and a longer fight scene but I guess she wasn’t the only God who needed to be killed that day.

Q: Did you expect Aris to feed the god to her dragon?
A: Very smart and unexpected lol.

Q: What do you think of everything that was revealed in Chapter Forty-Seven?
    A: I feel bamboozled.

Q: What do you hope will happen in the next book? Do you think Raker will succeed in combining the two swords?
A: There’s a lot of characters I hope we see again and I wonder if they’ll all band up together against the new enemy.

Thank you for having me on this readalong! This has become a new favourite ⚔️

Yes, I think he is trying to process and make sense of it. He seemed genuinely surprised by what she told him.

She says early in on the chapter that she may die tomorrow. It’s allowing herself one reckless moment; a moment to give into their connection before impending doom.

I don’t think that it was his goal from the beginning as I think he just wanted the sword and then disappear, but I think somewhere along the line when he realised that there was another way, he took the opportunity given to him. Whether he saw her feelings developing or whether it was just during that chapter.

It makes me look forward to book two and to see if the swords are actually brought together. I do think Aris would wield them though. Even if it is said to bring destruction, I wonder if it could do the opposite too.

I had hoped that the dragon would make another appearance.

I love that Zane survived and that he was selfless in his pursuit of the magic.

The encounter was very anticlimactic? The God was killed so easy? After all that build up I felt disappointed that that is what we got.

No, because I expected there to be more of a battle? Feeling the God to her dragon just fell flat to me.

I suspected something like this. There were signs leading to it. I wish the reveal happened differently.

I don’t think that we’ll have to wait 50 years. Raker is going to break the gates. the two swords will be combined but Aris will ultimately wield them and maybe even unite the two sides.

    1. Yes, I think he was trying to process everything she was telling him.

    2. I think she held onto some hope that it wouldn’t happen, and I think a part of her started to trust him more so it was easier to let her guard down.

    3. Possibly yes – his motives about the sword have always been clear but it is surprising that he never attempted to kill her for it. It makes me wonder if the way you acquire a sword affects the connection between sword and wielder.

    4. I think the bond between the swords show that destiny is at play here and was a wonderful way to illustrate the deeper connection between Aris and Raker. Clearly the swords chose them for a reason…it would be interesting to learn exactly who’s sword Aris has though.

    5. I had hoped that her dragon would make another appearance at some point in the story!

    6. It would have been nice to get into more detail about what happened to him after they were split up. Right now, I do wonder what the point of his character was, and I hope that he is more prevalent in the next book

    7. I was a little underwhelmed by the encounter. It felt very rushed and it seems really easy to defeat the Gods.

    8. Not at all! That was definitely a surprise. But also, partially why the scene felt so anticlimactic

    9. I knew there was something more to him and I enjoyed how things were revealed in that chapter.

    10. I think Raker is going to break through the gates to get Aris because he needs her to combine the swords. Whilst the first book was action packed and tense, I do hope we get a little more detail on Raker and focus on the prophecy. I am definitely keen to pick up the next book and I’m so glad that we don’t have to wait too long for it!

    – I think he’s pretty shocked by everything she told him, so he’s probably just trying to process it all. And generally, he’s not exactly a man of many words in the first place.

    – Because when you have feelings for someone, you want to believe the best in them. I think part of her hoped she would get a different outcome and wouldn’t end up being proven right.

    – Yes, I do think he was playing the long game. He knows so much about the sword, and I think he realised that if he couldn’t physically take it from her, then slowly getting close to her emotionally would eventually give him access to it. But I also think he accidentally fell in love with her along the way.

    – I was really shocked. I didn’t think they were the same sword at all. I thought they belonged to two completely different gods, so finding out they were connected and almost fated to be together was really cool.

    – I did, but mostly because I’d seen the special edition cover and the dragon was featured on it. The dragon also felt too important in the beginning for it not to come back later. So I was hoping for the reunion.

    – I actually really liked his arc. He got what he needed, he got his cup of magic, and he ended up getting the falcon or hawk that I wanted him to have. I was really happy with where his story ended up.

    – I was kind of disappointed by it. It felt very anticlimactic for something that had been built up so heavily with all the “I’m going to kill the gods”. I expected more from the encounter.

    – No, I really didn’t expect that. I didn’t think she would pull something like that. It was shocking, but at the same time it also felt over very quickly.

    – That chapter was an absolute whirlwind. I had no idea what was coming and was genuinely shocked by everything that got revealed.

    – I definitely think Raker is going to try and break down the wall. There’s no way they’re waiting fifty years. Something is going to happen, and he’s going to come after her. And since this is a romance, they obviously need to end up together eventually, but I think there’s going to be a lot of politics and chaos before that happens. I’m really looking forward to seeing where it goes.

    1. He is definitely doing more than just processing. He’s also piecing everything together.

    2. Because she wanted to trust him. She had hope, despite the risk.

    3. It’s possible. I’m hoping that if he did, it wasn’t his only motive.

    4. It adds another huge layer to the story. Aris and Raker are going to be a part of something much bigger.

    5. Their bond was too significant to leave unresolved, so I did expect to see the dragon again.

6.I love that Zane completed his journey and received his magic. I was hoping we would see him a bit earlier that that though.

    7. It was a little less triumphant than expected to be honest. I needed the God to put up a bit more of a fight.

    8. It was smart of Aris to trick the God. But I did think of it when it was mentioned that the God was jewel encrusted.

    9. It was quite a shocking and unexpected twist.

    10. I’d love to see more about the gods, and the consequences of everything that’s happened. I hope to see more of Zane and Vander, perhaps helping Aris. As for Raker, he might succeed in combining the swords, but it probably won’t come without a devastating cost.

Many thanks for including me on the readalong! I had a blast!

    1) I think Raker is battling to make the right decision – whether to stick by Aris after all she has shared with him, or carry out his original plan.
    2) They have been through so much together in the Questral, she must have hoped that she was wrong about him and that he wouldn’t actually betray her. But knowing he didn’t make the sword oath she should have known better.
    3) Raker definitely knew he would have access if she was emotionally attached to him – I don’t think it was his immediate plan, but it just so happened that she developed feelings. This is not to say that he too doesn’t have feelings for her – just that maybe his plan is bigger than his love for her.
    4) How terrifying – and considering how close we are to the end of the book tells me this might just be the premise for the second book.
    5) I’m glad she did, otherwise that whole interaction with the Beast Tree and claiming the dragon in the first place would have been so pointless!
    6) I’m glad he survived and he managed to get his cup of magic – at least there is some happiness for him.
    7) I was a little confused as to why she decided to agree to not kill the god – but when we realise that Aris had a plan all along then it makes sense!
    8) No I didn’t expect it, but so smart of her!
    9) I was absolutely shocked – I literally had my jaw hanging open the whole time. EVERYTHING makes sense now – I do think there are pieces from Aris’ history that need to be revealed. But absolutely shocked about the Harlan reveal – I didn’t think he was actually going to be the god of death.
    10) I hope we figure out a bit more about Aris’ markings – and that the worlds finally do merge (Starside and Stormside) – obviously we can’t wait 50 years for the gates to open so I wonder how that’s going to happen. I think Raker will succeed – but I don’t know to what extent it will impact the world!

Why do you think Raker is silent after everything Aris told him? Do you think he is trying to process all the new information?
Yes i think hes just processing everything and also trying to figure out how he feels about everything shes told him.

At the end of Chapter Forty-Two, Aris admits that she always knew Raker would betray her. Why do you think she let her guard down in Chapter Forty-Two?
She obviously wants to trust him and she has very real feelings for him, but shes also realistic.

Do you think Raker knew that if Aris let him in, he would have easy access to her sword? Do you think this is what he was waiting for?
Yes i think so, Raker definitely had an alterior motive.

What do you think of what the ethereal woman revealed about the two Godswords?
I thought it was very interesting! I cant wait to see what this information will mean for book 2!

Did you expect Aris to be reunited with her dragon by the end?
I didnt expect it but i did hope for it and i was really happy when they reunited.

What do you think of Zane’s story arc?
I love Zane i think theres still alot more to learn about him but im hoping to see more of him in book 2.

After years of looking for vengeance, Aris finally confronts the God of Travels. What do you think of the encounter?
Im glad she got her vengeance although it was a very quick death ive seen people say that it was a very big build up for something that had such a small part in the story but i though it was perfect!

Did you expect Aris to feed the god to her dragon?
    Not at all.

What do you think of everything that was revealed in Chapter Forty-Seven?
The way my jaw was ON THE FLOOR i kept rereading the same lines to see if i read correctly because i was like WTF LIKE WTAF haha

What do you hope will happen in the next book? Do you think Raker will succeed in combining the two swords?
I hope theres more romance i hope we see raker yearn for aris more and i hope aris becomes stronger than raker somehow so that she can overpower him, i hope we see more of her dragon and i hope aris is the one to combine the 2 swords, not raker!

    1. I think Raker is silent because he is still processing everything Aris told him and trying to understand what it means for them.
    2. She let her guard down because she wanted to believe he would not betray her even though she already had doubts.
    3. Yes I think he knew. Raker is observant and I do not think the closeness was accidental on his side.
    4. The ethereal woman reveal about the Godswords made everything feel much bigger and more connected to the history of the world.
    5. Yes I expected it but it was still nice to actually see the reunion happen.
    6. I liked Zane’s story. He started off rough but ended up showing growth and survival instinct.
    7. The encounter felt heavy and emotional. It was more about closure and pressure building than just revenge.
    8. I did not expect that at all it was shocking but it also fit Aris because she acts fast in extreme moments.
    9. Chapter forty seven changed everything. It showed that the gods are directly involved and not just background lore.
    10. I think book two will be intense. I hope Aris and Raker find their way back to each other but I also feel like combining the swords will come with consequences.

    1. He knows more than he lets on so I think he is just processing the information but won’t reveal his own thoughts.

    2. She was desperate for that connection. I think she thought she is special and would be the one to change him.

    3. I think so, although I believe she would have done so earlier. I’m not sure why he dragged it on for so long.

    4. How convenient. I don’t know. Too many random plot twists.

    5. Yes, it was predictable.

    6. I think it was quite simple but I liked it. Very happy he survived.

    7. Very anticlimactic. I expected so much more.

    8. No, not at all.

    9. That was another convenient plot twist but satisfying to read. I enjoyed the final chapters so much.

    10. I have no idea. I was hoping she would get the goblet to Kira’s homeland. I also cannot wait her to reunite with Raker and duel him again. This was a thrilling ending.
