1. She seems spoiled. Which is very at odds with Elle. But maybe it’s the big sister to little sister ratio. Older sisters are always harsher on themselves and protect those around them.
2. Yes. Why would anyone assume only the men would be playing if you are invited to the game? Communication please 😀 But Elle handled it super well. Albeit very sassy.
3. She is opening up layer by layer. And the fact that she becomes more comfortable with him, lets her guard down.
4. No not at all. But I feel the same about all the runs she is going on?? I thought I could relate to her but now I 100% know she is actually athletic. Maybe she doesn’t know herself very well idk.

8. It doesn’t seem as though he has many (or any) people he can really rely on. He reacts to this statement in a very obvious way and I think it makes him fall very in love with her.

Elle’s sister is different from how I expected her to be from those early chapters where Elle mentioned her. She seems to be the complete opposite to Elle and a bit detached from reality.
Yes, Parker should have been a bit more clear but Elle could have also asked him more details about what would be happening. My assumption as the reader was that the women would just watch the men play but I think because Elle is used to playing she assumed the opposite.
Elle playing basketball was a nice way of showing us that people aren’t always who they appear on the surface – they have layers and histories and so many experiences that shaped who they are.
Parker backing up Elle and threatening Charles had me weak at the knees. I can’t even deny is – I loved him standing up for her. The moment afterward between the two of them seemed really sweet as though they found some common ground and Elle realising that he has her back; that they have each others.
As the scene continued, I realised before Elle that Parker was afraid of heights – the writing was on the wall. The “I got you” moment had a significant impact for not only them but for the reader because we can see things are changing between them! I’m excited to see how this progresses and how their relationship develops.
No, I don’t think that Elle was expecting to be so upset. I don’t think she (or both of them) realise what an impact they have on each other and how used to each other they are. This is why I love forced proximity.
I love that Parker knows these smaller things about her and takes notice of them. It shows me that he’s genuine in liking her and is possibly in the “he falls first” stages… I’m loving every moment. And I suspect those pastries she loves are going to make a comeback!
I don’t think Elle expected genuine connections with them but I always love seeing friendship develop with characters and them experiencing those sisterhood moments where it’s so pure.Parker is probably dealing with a lot – including possible feelings for Elle. We don’t get to see his POV but we know a bit about what’s going on with the sale of his company. He must have a lot on his shoulders and it seems that right now Elle is the only person who doesn’t expect anything from him.
The moment in the kitchen is a turning point for the two of them. Elle can chalk it up to a drunken haze but Parker can’t and I don’t think he’ll deny his feelings when the time comes.
The vase had me laughing, especially the resurrection of said vase.

1. We are never formally introduced to Elle’s sister. She is just an anonymous voice over the phone. We have heard glimpses about her (and her lifestyle), but nothing solid. Is her anonymity deliberate, as in Dauphne duMaurier’s Rebecca? More importantly, what does this mean? Elle herself is fond of her privacy and uses pseudonyms for work.
2. Parker is an agent of chaos! Surely he must have realised that Elle is very direct and literal: a basketball game means a basketball game. However, she has made it known that she is not particularly sporty, so his oversight might be forgiven. Should he have been more forthcoming in his invitation? Definitely!
3. Elle is definitely revealing more of herself around Parker. She is a creature of habit and is settling into a routine with him. She is warming up to Parker as a person and possibly a friend.
4. The basketball prowess was out-of-character and felt like a deus ex machina. This woman gets winded walking up and down a flight of stairs! It made no sense at all.
5. Parker’s threat against Charles was a power move – especially after Charles’ tactless dig at Elle’s expense. Given how much Charles seems to resent and yet covet his friend’s money, this was the ideal way to wound him! I didn’t hate it, nor did I love it.
6. That little moment felt very organic and authentic. Both of them let their guards down and simply enjoyed the moment.
7. Given the location of his apartment, Parker’s fear of heights was NOT on my bingo card. I suppose everybody has a weakness. This was just unexpected.
8. Both of them display a surprising level of trust in this moment: hers is verbal, while his is implied by the grip of his hand. This might be important in the future. For him, actions speak louder than words, but Elle might require verbal reassurances.
9. Parker’s departure was so unexpected. I don’t think Elle expected to feel anything about it. She was surprised by her feelings.
10. Their dynamic is quite strange. For a writer (and observer of others), Elle is not as attentive to others (or maybe just Parker?). It took her a while to realise Parker’s acrophobia, yet he senses her mood almost immediately. He is very observant and pays attention to the small things (that money can’t buy).
11. I loved this so much that I ignored how fast it happened. These women barely interacted, but openly welcomed Elle into their circle. It was beautiful! I think her sticking up for herself at the game endeared her to the group. I want more moments like this: less reluctance to have fun.
12. I think the stress of the acquisition is a key factor. He is not as nonchalant as he would have us believe. His anxiety about the deal possibly falling through led him to the gym.
13. I loved the kitchen moments! From the ugly “pasta vase(s)” to the cleanup and aftermath. I’m also glad that nothing happened because Elle was drunk.

She showed up for him and helped support him through his fear of heights. Parker was vulnerable with her and she handled it so well. I reckon this moment was a pivotal one in their relationship and it definitely has Parker trusting her even more. This also softened Elle towards him.
She totally did not, in her head she has to continue disliking him but girl has been feigning indifference when its clear she’s starting to like him. As she should 🤭 so these changes will start to become more apparent to her hopefully.
