1. Yes. It was emotional and painful, and it explains so much about why Alissa is the way she is now.
2. It shows how brave and selfless she’s always been, even as a child.
3. Scary but not shocking.
4. Some of it probably was. But he also used those moments to manipulate her.
5. Yes. He’s obsessed with her and sees her as something he owns.
6. I think she’ll try her hardest.
7. Yes. It’s the only way she can resist him without putting herself in danger.
8. Cruel and twisted. He’s using people as tools. I don’t think Alissa would ever accept.

10. Yes, emotionally understandable, but very risky after everything Perla did.

1) I always knew the king was cruel but this flashback really drove it home for me. He has no redeeming qualities. The fact that he took so much pleasure that he was laughing made me feel ill. I couldn’t imagine the self control Alissa had to not hurt him everytime he came close to her
2) She was already brave at that young age. She had the desire for resistance. The fact that she risked being exposed to help that man makes her so admirable
3) I couldn’t believe it! He was so diabolical for hiding it this whole time
4) I think he wanted it to be real. He was so good at playing the role that it must have been real to him. But he is who he is and that is not the same person who said all those sweet things.
5) I think so yes. If only to gain more power and unleash more terror.
6) Yes or she will die trying.
7) Yes because he cares about her wellbeing and her being strong enough to execute his plans. If she dies due to neglect he will feel like he failed.
8) I think if she remains in that state she will accept. Her resolve is slowly diminishing

1. I thought her aversion to th smell of roses was because of her mother’s death but this is sick. It shows us who King erik truly is and how he enjoys what he does.
2. It changed my mind about her selfishness and the way she has been over reacting at certain times. I still think she is very emtionally driven which is not always a good thing. This could be the moment she exposed herself to King Erik
3. That was a plot twist I would never have been able to predict
4. I think he wasn’t genuine he was just trying to “whoo” her to be on his side

1. Yes I felt so sorry for her! It helps a lot of things making sense
2. It was a huge weight to bare on her shoulders but it helps us understand her character.

A – I think that they are both strong women and can achieve so much toegther -
1) I can completely understand why it haunts her – to be so young and to basically carry out a mercy killing… she has every right to hate the king and be tortured by the scent of roses.
2) She is stronger than most – where everyone just looked on at the unfolding scene, she actually saved him. To be cruel was to be kind in this situation.
3) Should have seen that one coming! It makes so much sense. He thrives and finds pleasure in making everyone around him suffer.
4) Again – I think both yes and no – it’s real but also it’s definitely to further his own agenda.
5) Actually, I really thought he would have had her killed – but it makes much more sense that he would keep her alive.
6) I think she really means it and will definitely try to – at least. Whether she will actually be able to, I don’t know.
7) Yes – because we know he enjoys looking after her and is fueled by her accepting what he gives her. So, considering she is his prisoner, in a way, resisting him and all he has to offer is the best way she can.

9) This was such a good twist – from being a quiet wallflower to having the strength to free her. Good character growth for Perla!
Erik is a master manipulator.10) I was so upset when she turned around – but, it makes sense… it is basically a weapon to all Wielders and in the hands of the king, absolute disaster. I hope, at least, Perla will survive this and not somehow be caught having freed Alissa.

1. It was an awful thing to witness but to be honest I was expecting it to be something more personal considering the impact it had on her
2. I think that it was an incredibly brave thing to come to terms with, but also, there is a strength to being able to grant someone such a kindness.

9. Very surprising! I still think Perla is the victim of abuse and therefore tries to save other people in similar situations. It also makes me feel like there is alot more to her than meets the eye
10. Absolutely. I also feel like she could have accepted the Kings offer and bidded her time until she could get to the compass or end the Kings life
11. A long time coming considering they’re essentially working towards a common goal. I’ve liked Carmen since the beginning and I’m hoping she will help Alissa think less recklessly

It was a heavy decision, she was very young and I can see why that affected her so greatly due to her age

Yes it’s definitely as haunting as I assumed because she was only a child when it all happened and the man also thought in the moment that it’s his late wife there with him while he is being tortured.
I think she was extremely brave for doing that

1) I knew it was going to be something traumatic, and it truly was gut-wrenching. It explains so much of her trauma and why she feels such a deep-seated revulsion toward him.
2) It just speaks to the type of person she is. Even from a young age, she was prepared to risk everything to help a stranger in need.
3)I can’t say I wasn’t surprised, because it was a plot twist I definitely didn’t see coming. That said, I’ve never trusted him, and in hindsight, it makes perfect sense that he was the one pulling all the strings.
4)Maybe, in his own twisted way, the moments he shared with Alissa felt ‘real’ to him, but only from the perspective of wanting to own her rather than truly love her.
5) He’s clearly obsessed and views her more as a prize or a powerful weapon than a partner. I think he fully intends to keep her by his side, but only for his own personal gain.
6) I don’t know if she’ll be able to keep her vow, but I know she will do everything in her power to keep it.
7) I think it’s the only sense of autonomy she has left. By folding in on herself, she’s reclaiming what little control she can in a situation where every other choice has been taken from her, making it a quiet but powerful form of rebellion.
8) It’s a cruel psychological test to see if he can tempt Alissa into becoming as cold-blooded as he is. I think Alissa knows that accepting a “gift” from Erik is just another way of becoming his puppet.
9) It was such an incredible twist and a huge moment of growth for Perla.
10) From a survival standpoint, it was reckless and almost feels like an insult to Perla’s sacrifice. However, Alissa knows that leaving the compass with Erik would mean death for all Wielders, so she couldn’t just walk away.
11) It’s about time. They’re both powerhouses, and together they actually stand a chance against Erik, especially with Carmen’s strategic mind balancing Alissa’s instincts.

I’m so sorry, I am not an Alissa fan and so well, she underwhelmed me.
Honestly, kudos. That was a definite plus in my opinion.
I cannot say I saw that coming. There were some sign but this isn’t the conclusion I would have reached.
